Chapter 19

March 9th 2023

7:10am

Jahzara had just walked into her first period class after walking to school.

She was happy because she got to see Carmén after going a day without her.

"Hey guys." Jahzara said as she sat down next to her friends

"Hey Zara." Avana said

"Why you so happy?" Yamara asked

"Right its Monday." Jacoby agreed

"I had a good weekend." Jahzara said

"Oh, yeah. Where'd you guys go Saturday?" Avana said as she remembered her friend saying she went somewhere

"We went to the fair. Jah saw his lil girlfriend and I saw Carmén." Jahzara said

"Oh, that's why you're so happy. I can't wait to be like you. My man playing." Yamara said

"So how both yall seen yall girls?" Jacoby asked

"Carmén and her are sisters. And we're not dating. " Jahzara explained

"Not yet." Yamara said

Jahzara smiled at the comment and her friends noticed.

"You finally realized how much you like her?" Jacoby asked

"I been knew. I was just hiding it." Jahzara said

"No very well." Avana said

"So you gonna tell her?" Yamara asked

"No." Jahzara said

"Why not?" Jacoby said

"I'm scared." Jahzara mumbled

"She likes you Zara." Avana said

"Not like that." Jahzara mumbled

"Yes it is like that Zara." Yamara said

"Mmtch ok. The teacher coming in." Jahzara said, turning her body forward

"Now you wanna pay attention." Jacoby said

"Shh." Jahzara said to her cousin

Thankfully, Jahzara managed to get her friends to leave her alone.

Jahzara was now walking to her 2nd, excited for her class with Carmén.

She walked with a frown, not seeing Carmén at her desk.

She wasn't too worried at first. She thought maybe she was late. But she started to worry once it reached 15 minutes passed  in the class.

"I hope she's ok. Maybe she's just sick." Jahzara thought to herself as she bounced her leg anxiously

"She would've told me though. What if something happened to her mom? Or her sister?" Jahzara thought to herself, worrying herself of the possibility of what might of happened to Carmén

"Mrs. Jones. Please pay attention." The teacher said

"My fault." Jahzara said as she went back into her thoughts
