Chapter 12

Jahzara was now in the kitchen, cooking her mother and brother breakfast for the holiday. She had gotten up earlier than usual, at 9:00. She was excited for the day. She was going to give Carmén her gifts.

The two were still asleep, so Jahzara tried not to make to much noise. She went to wake them up when she was finished.

"Jah. I made you and Mamí some breakfast. Come eat while it's hot." Jahzara said as she lightly rubbed the boy's shoulder to wake him up

"Alright I'm coming." Jahmere said as Jahzara walked out of his room

Jahzara went to her mother's room next and knocked on the door before she opened it, finding her mother already up watching TV.

"Buenos días Mamí. Preparé el desayuno para ti y Jah." Jahzara said as she walked into her mother's room

(Good morning Ma. I made breakfast for you and Jah.)

"Gracias bebe. I'm coming now." Her mother said as she got out of her bed

Jahzara went into the kitchen to make their plates. Once she was finished, Jahmere made his way into the kitchen.

"Huele bien, Zara." Jahmere said as her walked up to the girl

(It smells good, Zara.)

"I tried." Jahzara said handing the boy his plate

"Thank you, Zara." Jahmere said giving the girl a hug

"You're welcome." She said with a smile. She was glad she and her brother got along for the most part

"Are you getting taller?" Jahzara asked

"Mmh, I'm finna hit my first growth sprut this summer. Imma be taller than you." Jahmere said

"No you suppose ta be my little brother." Jahzara said getting fake sad

She was used to the boy being shorter than her. She knew he was going to be taller eventually. She's only 5'5. He was already 5'4, he was probably on track to be at 5'10. He was going to tease her all the time.

"Ooh, the food smells and looks good baby. Thank you." Her mother said as she walked into the dining room

"Hola, bebé." Her mother said to Jahmere while giving him a kiss on his head

"Morning Mamí." The boy replied to just mother while giving her a hug

"Oh its nothing. Just my lil gift for yall." Jahzara said with a smile

"¿Por qué eres tan feliz?" Jahmere asked as he sat down

(Why you so happy?)

"Cause she get to see her lil girlfriend." Her mother responded with a smirk

"I don't have a girlfriend. Me and Carmén are friends." Jahzara said

"Oh, her. Yall might as well be. You talk about her all the time." Jahmere said as he ate his food

"No I don't." Jahzara said, confused where this girlfriend talk was coming
