Madison's Perspective in Her Life:

Chapter 3: Bone Appetite

My parents are what you would call Hunters. They hunt the ill and kill whatever they can for meat. Although I may be eating my neighbor Michael for dinner, I must survive. You are probably wondering how can I eat the meat that is infected? Well, when you cook them, or burn through their skin, the infection seeps through the skin and the meat is healthier, well at least you won't get infected by eating it. If you do not burn the infection off then the dead could possibly have it's third chance at life. Maybe bringing you with them. So if you choose to eat, then you better like your food burnt, or else, you are out of luck.

We never sit in the same room as my parents when they are cooking dinner. For the smell of burning flesh just makes me -and anyone else human- sick to my stomach. If you think that fish smells bad, then you wouldn't last even thirty seconds in my house.

When we eat you can't really smell the flesh anymore because you are concentrating more on keeping the food in your stomach. Believe it or not, this meat is almost freakishly impossible to keep in your stomach without throwing it back up. But if you do not eat, you will die. So you really have no choice but to eat it. But no matter what, I can't be too picky because any meal could be my very last.

If all of the infected in my area are killed, then I will have no food because all of the animals that have been calculated for are extinct. That dreaded day will be terrible because people will be completely crazy for food and will become cannibals and begin to eat each other. Even if they aren't infected people. But who knows how long it will be from now when that happens.

Kyle's Perspective in His Life:

Chapter 3: Nobody Home

I finally had made it home. I was just sitting in my driveway. I could almost feel my heart pounding in my throat. I turned the car off and pulled the keys out of the ignition. I needed a plan. Okay. I'm going to unlock the doors, then opens the driver's door and make a run for it. No objections. This is risky but it's my best option. It's life or death right now.

My plan came into action. I sprinted to my front door. I went to open my front door, but it was locked! How could this happen?! They couldn't of evacuated this fast! As I lifted my head up from the door knob I noticed there was a note taped to the door. I began to read it quickly hoping none of the infected would notice I was here.

DEAR KYLE,

I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU THAT I LOVE YOU. I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE MILITARY GENERALS WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO BRING THE DOG, CHASE. PLEASE FEED HIM WHEN YOU GET THIS. WE ARE GOING TO AN UNKNOWN MILITARY BASE. THEY CANNOT ALLOW ANYONE ELSE IN, FOR THE FACT THAT NOT EVERYONE WILL BE ABLE TO FIT IN THE BUILDING. THERE IS A LIMITED AMOUNT OF FOOD IN THE PANTRY IN THE KITCHEN SO USE IT SPARINGLY. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. STAY IN THE HOUSE AS LONG AS YOU CAN. I LO

I could tell it was my moms handwriting. Why didn't she finish the note? How will I ever know what she was going to say? But most importantly, how will I get into the house? Where does my mom normally hide the key? The mailbox!

I crept carefully down the driveway. I crouched down and crawled until I reached the grass in front of the mailbox. Sliding my hand into the mailbox I couldn't see or feel anything. The key wasn't in the mailbox.

Hmmmm. Where else could it possibly be? Ummmmm. Oh I know, under the flower pot on the porch. I crawled my way up the driveway making myself as quiet as possible. I did a quick jump onto the porch. There were a couple of zombies watching me. "I probably shouldn't make any more sudden movements," I thought to myself. I slowly lifted the flower pot and found the key.

I tried unlocking the front door but my hand slipped. I accidentally dropped the key onto the ground. It landed with a, "Clink," on the ground. With the neighborhood silent and abandoned, the noise echoed and the zombies were attracted to the noise. One broke into a run towards me. I had to think fast so I grabbed the flower pot and threw it at the zombie's forehead. It split its head down the middle and the zombie fell back onto the cement with its skull hitting the ground with a loud, "Crackle."

I picked the key back up and shoved it into the keyhole and pushed quickly and gently onto the door and it opened. It seemed eerie not having anyone in my house. It was quiet. Very quiet. I had one objective the second my foot touched the rug inside. I had to find my life-long companion, Chase.
