Dimitri’s point of view:

Rose flopped onto her bed and I went to hold her. What does this mean? Marie can see and talk to Mason? As I held my Roza, my mind wandered over all the possible reasons for this odd occurrence. The only one that seemed most likely was that Rose simply passed on her gift to Marie.

“DADDY!” Dimka ran into the room and jumped on the bed.

“What’s up, bud?”

“Marie’s talking to herself again.” He told me and I looked at Roza before heading towards Marie’s bed room.

Sure enough, I heard her little voice. It sounded like she was having a conversation. “Marie, who are you talking too?”

“Mason,” she told me and looked sad. “Daddy, am I a freak?” Tears welled up in her eyes and fell down her face.

I cuddled her to my chest and stroked her hair. “No, baby, it doesn’t. You’re special just like your momma.” I told her. Then a thought came to me. What if she saw other ghosts and they told her to do bad things? “Marie, do you see any other ghosts? Do they tell you to do bad things?”

She looked at me and blinked. “No Daddy, just Mason and he only tells me how much he loves me and talks to me.”

“What do you mean he loves you?” She smiled happily.

“I don’t know. He just does.” Marie shrugged. I kissed her head and went back to Rose. She was sitting on the bed looking towards the spot next to her.

“Mason, you got to stop seeing Marie. Maybe it will go away if you do.” She looked sad. “I don’t understand, Mase. How exactly do you love my daughter? You’re not here.” Her eyes went wide. “You’re in love with my daughter? In love?” Her head dropped into her hands. “I don’t understand.” She shook her head. Finally, her eyes met mine. “Dimitri,” Rose reached for me and I picked her up like a baby.

“What’s wrong? What is he saying?” I asked her.

“He says that in his world there is a person who sees the future of ghosts. She saw him and Marie together in love. They got married in her visions or whatever it was.” Rose told me. “But how? He’s gone forever and the lady said that they would have kids. I don’t understand.” She kept shaking her head into my shoulder.

“Be calm, my darlin’. Maybe we aren’t supposed to understand yet.” I told her. “All we need to know is that she is safe and we love her. If Mason cares for her like he says he does than I’m sure he’s going to figure something out. We can’t do anything about this.”

“Alright,” she nodded and I felt her lips kiss my neck. “Goodbye Mason, I’m sure we’ll talk later.” Rose murmured and then giggled before kissing my soft spot. I sighed and moaned quietly at the back of my throat. Rose smiled and pulled away from me.

“I love you.” I told her and kissed her soft spot, making her sigh happily.

“Love you.” She replied and we left her room.

“I have work, Rose and it would be best for me to leave now. I’ll give Dimka a kiss and then be off.”

Rose’s point of view:

After Dimitri left, I played with Marie and Dimka for hours. Occasionally, Marie would get a faraway look and her face would brighten, but she didn’t say anything. I kind of felt bad. Dimitri and I had bothered her so much about her talking to Mason that I think it might have hurt her.

A few days went by and each day Marie’s attitude dropped so far to the point that I thought she might be depressed now. Dimitri and I watched her closely. She lost her bubbly attitude and simply sat on the floor silently. “Dimitri, trust me to make this right?”

“Always,” he replied and I left him, taking Marie with me.

We went into my room and I sat her on the bed. “What’s wrong, Mommy?” She asked worried.

“Marie, I want you to tell me the truth.” She looked at me. “Are you sad?”

“Yes,”

“Why are you sad?” I asked and rubbed her hair.

“Because I can’t talk to Masey,” she whispered.

What? “Has he not come to talk to you?”

She looked at me. “I told him not to come talk to me because you and Daddy were mad that I talked to him. I’ve seen him, but I won’t talk to him. I don’t want to be a bad girl.” Marie told me.

I pulled her into a hug. “Aw my girl,” I whispered and kissed her hair. “Look at me.” She looked at me with wide brown eyes. “Does talking to Mason make you happy?”

“Yes Momma,”

“Marie, I want you to be happy. Talk to him just make sure to spend time with everyone else, okay?”

“Really?” She asked me. “I can talk to him?”

“Yes baby, you can.” I told her and kissed her face.

“I love you, Mommy.” Marie told me and kissed my lips. “Can I say hi to him now?” I saw Mason standing near the window.

“Go ahead.”

Marie clapped her hands. “Masey!”

I turned to see what he had to say. “I missed you.” He mouthed to her. “Are you happy?”

“I’m happy now to talk to you.” She replied. He came towards us and sat down on the bed. I watched as Marie scooted towards him and sat in his lap. Literally, she was sitting in his lap, looking like she was floating in air.

“I’ll leave you two to talk, but Marie dinner is in an hour.” She nodded and went back to hugging my old friend. I smiled at him before leaving.
