There's music blasting out of a speaker and wind whipping around. Quinn's driving with Jack in the water doing his thing. The newfound young duo of Finch and Luke are watching him. Somehow, some way, Val is asleep across from Quinn.
Z and I had found our spot to be sprawled on the seats up at the front. Practically bumping heads together with each bump. We were leaning on our elbows and sides and our heads just in the right position to be able to see right down the middle to watch Jack.
"You and Quinn," he says.
I nearly don't even hear him. I think, at least. So I echo, "Me and Quinn?"
"Other night for Birdy's welcome party, I got the room next to yours." My heart pounds as he goes on. "Thought I was going insane and hearing things. At one point I went to take a piss 'cause I couldn't sleep and I saw Quinn leaving your room."
"Oh."
Z laughs. "No defense?"
"Not even I could run my mouth out of this."
