Chapter 5: The Trap

I woke up in the morning, thankfully in my own bed this time. Maybe everything that happened was just a bad dream.

I got up and looked in the mirror.

Never mind, I'm still Kendra. Speaking of Kendra, she came into the dorm.

"Where did you go?" I asked her.

"Nothing went for a walk. Also, Headmistress Malae wants to see us. She called us to her office in 5." She spoke.

"Great," I said, snapping my fingers to change out of my pajamas. "Let's go."

We walked to the headmistress' office and knocked.

"Come in." Came her voice from the inside.

We walked in and she said "Ah, Kendra, Raelynn, just who I was waiting for. I think I might've figured out why you're in this situation. Sit down."

And so, we sat down in the chairs.

"Now, would you two mind telling me what exactly happened so I might be able to see if my suspicions are true."

Kendra spoke up "Well, you see, I woke up in Raelynn's bed, which I found odd. And then I looked into the mirror and realized that I was in Rae's body. I then saw Rae in my body. It was all very strange."

"And what about you?" Headmistress Malae asked, looking toward me.

"Same as Kendra. I woke up in her bed and then I saw Kendra in my body. Then we came to you." I spoke.

"And nothing happened the night before?" the Headmistress asked.

"No ma'am," Kendra replied instantly.

"Well, I might've sneaked out of bed because I couldn't sleep. And I might've gone up to the school roof and sulked a bit." I admitted, looking down.

"And did you say anything?" She asked.

"Well, I think I might've said something about wishing I was Kendra," I said, thinking.

"I see. I was correct, unfortunately."

"Why is that a bad thing?" Kendra asked.

"Because it's not good news."

"Oh dear. What happened?" Kendra inquired.

"I think that a Gyn must've overheard Raelynn on that night."

"What's a Gyn?" I asked at the same time as Kendra said "A Gyn?!"

"Gyns are mischievous little creatures that roam around, granting people's wishes in such a way that they regret wishing for it," Kendra explained.

"So, now you know what did this, can't you undo this?" I asked Headmistress Malae.

"Unfortunately, no." She explained. "Gyn magic is different from fairy magic, and our magic will not work. We must capture the Gyn and get it to undo this."

"But Gyns are really hard to catch." Said Kendra.

"That's why we need to set a trap." Said the Headmistress.

"How? Kendra said they're really hard to catch." I spoke.

"Honey." She spoke. "I've spent quite some time researching about them and I've found out that they have a huge sweet tooth but what they love the most is honey. They prefer it to fairy-made sweets such as Tweety Toffees."

"How can anyone not like Tweety Toffees?" I gasped. I absolutely loved Tweety Toffees.

Tweety Toffees are little toffees that make your voice high-pitched for a while after you eat them.

Ignoring me, Kendra said "Where will we set the trap? If we set it in someplace where there are a lot of fairies, I doubt that the Gyn would come."

"We'll set the trap in the Filli Forest."

So, the three of us set off to the Filli Forest.

There, Headmistress Malae set down some honey and put down an invisible bubble that you can enter but not exit.

"We have to hope that this will be enough to catch the Gyn." Headmistress Malae said. "In the meantime, why don't you both head onto Eagle Eye Lake and spend time with your friends. We'll come to check on the trap during lunch."

Eagle Eye Lake was a gorgeous lake in our school. It was called that because the lake was shaped like an eye. Many fairies went there to swim, read or simply chill with friends.

It was surrounded by trees and pretty blossoms that never withered thanks to some spring fairy magic.

Magic that I could only ever imagine doing.

Anyway, Kendra and I walked to the lake and sat down under a tree.

"Hey Rae, would you mind going to our dorm and grabbing something to read. I need to get my mind off the Gyn and the trap." Kendra said after a while.

I needed something to distract my mind as well, so I agreed.

I flew to our dorm and grabbed two books. A thrilling mystery for me and an adventurous book for Kendra.

I was flying back to Kendra when I noticed Iniana was talking to her.

I quickly flew to them.

"Hey. What's happened here?" I asked.

"Nothing. I was just talking to Raelynn." Iniana said sweetly and then walked off.

As I sat down next to Kendra I said "Don't believe that for a second. What really happened Kendra?"

"Well, I was just sitting here and minding my own business, and then she comes out of nowhere and says, 'Did Kendra finally realize her mistake and leave you?' and then I get and was about to reply when you showed up. Me becoming friends with you is not a mistake. I can't believe that she could say something that mean. I thought she was a nice person."

"She's not a nice person. I know you want to see the good in everyone but she just pretends to be nice to you so she can be friends with you." I spoke.

"Has she always been this mean to you?"

"Unfortunately, yes."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"You liked her, so I didn't say anything."

"You know you can tell me everything. I don't want to be near her anymore." Kendra said firmly.

I smiled and then turned the topic to something more interesting than Iniana: Books.

"So, I brought you the new adventure novel you wanted to read," I said to her.

"Thanks. I love reading adventure novels. I wish I could go on an adventure someday." She said.

Little did she know, her wish was gonna be granted, not by a Gyn, but because of one.
