Last week we recieved a letter from Damon Bess asking for Mahle's hand in Marriage in broken Xhosa mixed with some broken Zulu here and there, it was funny and also cute in a way. In his letter he also invited us to come over to this other address, he said he was going to propose on Valentines Day and he wanted everyone close to Mahle's heart to be there and i respected him for the effort especially the letter asking for our blessings and her hand. It was Valentines eve and we were on the road around 6am headed to Durban, mom, danny and me.

Him: I still think he's rushing things

Mom: yeah well look at you two, you were together for a year and a year later you guys were married

Me: hahahaha good point mom

Him: She's only 20 Sino

Me: I think i was younger when i first got married

Her: yeah you were but your father and i didnt stop you

Him: why?

Her: because who were we to stand in the way of love?

Him: caring parents who want what's best for their child

Mom: You see as a parent all you want is for your child to be happy and end up with the man of their dreams.

Him: ok Mah and seeing that Thando wasnt?

Me: this is the thing about love, there's always going to an invisible wall you cannot see beyond. At that time Thando was meant to be the man of my dreams but he turned out to be something else a few years later

Him: and dont you think it could have been avoided maybe?

Mom: so what are you saying exactly? That Sino should reconsider marrying you?

Him: no thats not what i'm saying. She's older and wiser now and she can judge characters

We werent really arguing but at the same time we kinda were. I want my daughter to make her own choices and learn from them, just like my parents did with me. I dont want to be the reason for her being unhappy.

Me: Daniel i appreciate that you care about Mahle i really do but i've always given her the freedom to make her own mistakes and learn from them and so far i havent been disappointed at all.

Him: Sino I was once a parent too and still am and i understand you but when your child hasnt even reached 21, i dont think they are allowed to make such choice

Mom: see thats where you wrong. 21 is still young, age doesnt determine maturity, making mistakes and learning from them does. Mahle has been through a lot for someone her age and i must say the choices she's made havent disappointed us or her and even if her choices were wrong, she admits to being wrong and finds a way to make it right because you cant undo your wrongs

Me: true and Because of mom and dad allowing me to marry at a young age i learnt everything i was suppose to learn and even more. If they hadnt let me lead my life as i please, i wouldnt be married to you now would i?

Him: I guess you right

Mom: yeah she is now let your guard down, Damon seems like a good guy. You've met him and if i recall correctly you said you applaud him for taking such a step at a young age because most of his peers are playing with their lives today

Him: hahaha yes Mah i remember. If you guys feel like she's ready then i dont see why not

Me: thank you*i kissed his cheek* I know you just being a father and i love you for that

Mom: what did Thando say?

Me: after convincing him to allow Mahle to make her own choices and asking him to give Damon a chance he finally gave in and said he'll be there oh and turns out he has met Damon before
