Taken in Stride

I can't say I have had a hard life;
There are people who have it tougher.
I was fortunate to be born with a silver spoon,
The only thing that went wrong with my life
Was that I was sheltered from the cold for too long.
I can't say I had it easy
My life has had its share of struggles,
But I always relied on others to fix them;
So I was never happy.
I have always struggled to please everyone
Because I thought I was happy if they were,
I was wrong.
Nobody was happy that way.
Now I have the power to choose,
And it feels so foreign to me.
I can't have anyone carry this weight of mine,
Not anymore.
I can do this,
I know I can.
There will be times I may stumble,
Maybe even fall,
But at least I will be happy.
It is my turn.
