Spoken Word Poem

Theseus, Perseus, Achilles, Hercules,

Wayne, Stark, Odin-son, and Kal-El.

These, are but a few of the names we know to be Heroes.

And even if they wear, tight, tacky costumes,

Have hard to pronounce names,

Or spill the blood of their enemies,

We still look up to them and admire what they do.

We speak of them as Legends;

Ignorant, to the fact that they walk among us,

Stand beside us,

Look up as we do and ask....

"What's everyone looking at?"

Although many are not sent by the Gods and the Heavens,

We see them every day.

Sometimes in brief glimpses, almost unseen by the naked eye,

Others in blinding brilliance;

More often in the form of the first.

Heroes are the people who tell you exactly what it is you need to hear,

Show you that --one-- thing you needed to see,

And give you the kindness you wanted to feel.

They always know what it is we need

And they give it to us at their expense,

But they gladly do it.

That's just one of the reasons we love them.

There is just something about them

Kinda like they have been graced with gifts.

With the power to Heal and Endure,

They Reassure us with an Open-heart,

Using all of their Hard-work

They Encourage us with Reluctance and an Open-mind.

Their Honesty keeps us Earnest, and their Reliability makes it easy to be Overt.

Even though they are Human like you or me,

They seem to Endure so much more and do Remarkable things.

But the thing about being a hero,

Is that it is Obtainable.

We. Can. Be. Heroes.
