Chapter 12 : Partners?

Maya's POV

I wake up to my phone buzzing,

Riley - not gonna make it to school today, talk to you about it later x

I groan, and roll out of bed taking a glance outside the dusty window which was my only glimpse of the outside world from my room.

My phone buzzes again,

Rebel - can't give you a ride, won't be at school babe x

I groan once again and growl at my phone clenching it tight, great this is going to be one fun day *sarcasm

I take the subway to school and notice Farkle just as he's about to walk through the school doors, "Farkle!" I call, Farkle whips around almost instantly.

"Wow Maya why are you so early" Farkle gasps,

" no Riley no Rebel" I say weighing out my hands,

Farkle nods signalling he understands.

I put my hands in my pockets,

and walk with Farkle through the halls until we reach our class,

"aren't you going to your locker?" Farkle asks motioning to my locker,

I shrug my shoulders, "I barely have any books to carry anyway".

Farkle shakes his head at me and we walk into the class room.

"Morning Maya, Farkle" Mr Matthews addresses us, I grab a chair and slouch in my seat boy this is going to be a long day.

Never have I ever been this early to class and this sets me into some deep thinking, I remember what happened on Friday, and Josh, I can't believe what Josh did to me my head throbs and I feel slightly sick,

I know this wouldn't be as painful if I didn't love him.

Lucas strolls into the room

Then I remember,

Lucas didn't turn up, I clench my fist beneath the table, how could he do that to Riley, It's probably why she didn't turn up, poor Riley wears her heart on her sleeve and she's probably a wreck right now.

Mr Matthews begins speaking but I shut him out of my mind all that matters is I give Lucas a piece of my mind, I heave myself up out of my seat and slide next to Lucas.

"Maya" his eyes widened like I had just woken him up from a trance,

"Listen Ranger Rick, I don't know why you didn't turn up on Friday but I know whatever you did has certainly ruined our friendship" I fume,

"What?" he asks still shocked,

"You loved Riley, and she loved you more than anything in the word" I argue,

"those days you two were together were the happiest days of her life" I prod him,

"you ruined this, you ruined her" I say glaring at him.

"she cheated on me Maya, and if you haven't realized that really hurt me I can't keep going through that" Lucas says looking hurt,

"that's exactly what Rebel want's you to think" I argue back,

"Rebel?" he asks, "your so called boyfriend?".

My blood boils, how can he be so calm yet I'm throwing myself all over the place, this isn't how arguements are supposed to work,

I squint staring into his eyes, and he shoots me back a sincere stare, this doesn't feel right how can I not get to him.

"Rebel is -" I am interrupted by Mr Matthews,

"Maya and Lucas you two are assigned Ancient Japan" he announces,

I slam my hand on the desk,

"what?" I protest,

" I get Sundance really?" I groan sitting back,

I shouldn't have gotten out of my seat to argue in the first place otherwise none of this would have happened.

" I want to work with Riley" I say pouting and Mr Matthews,

"Riley's not here" he says shooting me a cheesy smile,

"and don't forget class " he says a smile still plastered on his face, " this assignment is worth 80% of your grade."

Great, that's exactly what I need,

I rub my temples with my hands.

I look back at Lucas,

and I get Ranger Rick.
