Bob was kind enough to drive me to the base, so that I could confirm that I would take Phoenix spot in the two seater.
"I'm gonna wait here", he said as I got out of his car.
I turned to look at him. "Thank you"

On the floor of the entrance hall, right under a photo of Iceman, were tons of white roses.
I stood there for a few seconds to look at his picture and those surrounding.
There was one of the whole class too.
I saw goose and my dad.
He had his arm wrapped around him.
They were both smiling.

"Phantom?", I heard the admiral call me and he pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Coming, sir", I said and went into his direction into his office.
"I suppose that you are here to confirm your spot?", he asked as he typed a few things into his computer.
"Yes, sir", I answered.
"Alright", he nodded. "Let's see if thats a good thing"
A few moments of silence followed.
"Am I dismissed?", I asked because neither of us were talking.
"One thing", he started. "Don't be like your father, Mitchell. Or else you're getting kicked out, just like him"
"I'm sorry, sir?", I asked.
Why was he kicked out?
What did he do?
"Your father just got discharged from this mission", he said while he was going through a few papers.
"May I ask why, sir?", I said.
"He wasn't for any good use anymore", he answered.
I shook my head.
He really tried.
They just threw him out like garbage.
We were just a few days away from the mission.
I tried to hold my anger.
I already had a bad reputation.
"You're dismissed", he said and I left the room.
This doesn't make any sense.

When I was back outside, I noticed that my car was gone.
"Bob, you know where the hell my car went?", I asked and looked around trying to figure out if I had left it somewhere else.
"I think you should stop by at Roosters house", he giggled.
"What?", I turned around to him.
"Come here, I'm gonna get you to him", he continued giggling.
"Why is my car at Roosters?", I asked.
What was going on?
"You'll see", he said and started the car.
I shrugged.
-
"See you", Bob said and dropped my off in front of a little bungalow. "Tell him I said hi"
Then he drove away.
His house had a little garden and on the side was a garage.
I was just about to knock, when I heard a sound coming from his garage.
I hesitated to go in but when I saw my car, I just took a step inside. "Rooster?"
"Nicki?", I heard his voice but he was nowhere to be seen.
"What are you doing here?", he said as he crawled back from being under my car.
He wore a white tank top which was covered in dark spots of dirt.
"I could ask you the same question", I laughed.
"I fixed your car", he proudly smiled and wiped the sweat off his face with his shirt.
"Your starter was broken and I switched whatever this was", he continued and showed me something that looked like it had seen better days.
"You really did that?", I looked at him.
No one was ever that nice to me.
He nodded.
When I took a closer look I noticed that he even cleaned it.
"Thank you", I said and gave him a kiss on his cheek.
"No worries", he smiled. "I know how much this car means to you"

It was a black 1958 Porsche 356 speedster.
It was my moms car. She gave it to me right before she died.
This was the last thing I have of her.
She was a civil contractor and she didn't own much because she was always moving due to her job.
My mother was a beautiful woman.
She had blonde hair and green eyes. She always knew what to say and was well respected. Even the government fully trusted her.
Back in the days, it was rare for woman to have as high positions in the navy as she had.
I came more after my father.
People always told me that I was 'little Maverick'.

"Charlie would've been proud to see that you're still driving her speedster", Rooster said as he wrapped his arm around me.
"Your dad would've been proud to see that you copied his little mustache", I laughed.
"Oh come on", he laughed and threw his head back.
I turned around to look him in the eyes. Then I got on my tip toes.

"I'm starting to like it", I whispered in his ear.
"You do?", he smiled.
I nodded.
He came closer to my ear.
"I'm starting to like you", he whispered.
"You do?", I smiled and he nodded.

He gently brushed my hair behind my ear and kissed me.
"Me too", I smiled.
