A kiss on my forehead woke me up the next morning.
I was scared that we slept in but Rooster quickly calmed me down.
"Don't worry, its still early"
We were still in the same position we feel asleep.
"How did you sleep?", he asked me as he brushed my hair behind my ears.
"Good what about you?", I asked back.
"I haven't slept this good in months", he smiled.
He hesitated but then gave me a kiss.
He just looked at me and smiled.

"Im going to shower real quick", I said and stood up to grab some fresh clothes.
"No, get back here", he groaned into the pillow.
I let out a laugh.
"You should get dressed too", I suggested.
"You really want that?", he laughed but I threw his clothes that were still on the floor in his face.
"Yes"
"I shouldn't have woken you up", he shook his head.

I had time to think about a few things while I was in the shower.
Apart of that what was going on between me and Rooster was really confusing, I think I like him.
I really think I like him.
I just don't know if he thinks of me the same way.

After the shower I went back to my bedroom were Rooster was sitting.
He wasn't fully dressed and looked a bit pale.
"What's wrong?", I asked as I dried my hair with a towel.
"I think you should call your father", he mumbled because he held his hand on his mouth.
I quickly sat down next to him."Why? What happened?"
"Iceman died", he said and gave me his phone.
On the display was a notification from the admiral saying that his funeral was gonna be later today.

I was in complete shock.
Iceman, Brads and my father all went to Top Gun together back in the day.
Maverick always said how they both had a bumpy start but Iceman was the only reason that he was still in the navy.
They always wanted to kick him out but Iceman was a well respected man and he didn't let that happen.
I knew that he had cancer but its been a while since I last saw him.
I thought that he had recovered.

Iceman wasn't just a good friend of Maverick. He was a legend.
The whole base was covered in pictures of him or medals and trophies that he had won.

"Oh my god", was the only thing I could get out.
-
All of us stood in a row when Maverick said his last good bye.
Gun shots were fired in the air.
"I'm sorry dad", I said as I walked up to him after the funeral.
He looked devastated.
"It's okay, he was sick for a long time", he said while he kept looking down.
I pulled him in for a hug.
It been a long time since the last time I hugged him.
I knew he needed it.
We stopped when the admiral walked towards us.
"I need to talk to you Captain", he said and Maverick nodded.
I had a weird feeling about this.

"You alright?", Rooster asked as he wrapped his arm around me.
"I've never seen him like this", I answered.
"He's gonna recover. He always does", Rooster claimed as we walked towards his car.
"I know", I said with a lower voice.
"The other ones wanted to go out for lunch. I can get you home if you don't want to come", he said and turned the engine on.
"I could eat something", I nodded and we followed the other cars to the next restaurant.

"Phantom! Glad to see you're good", Phoenix greeted me as I got out of the car.
"Phoenix, hey", I said and hugged her.
"Let's get inside", she said and took my hand.

Phoenix and I sat on the little balcony while the others stayed inside.
"You're not saying that you don't want to take the spot right?", she said when I told her about my second thoughts.
"It doesn't feel right to take yours, you know?", I shook my head and took a sip of my cold water.
"That's not up for debate. I want you to take it", she claimed.
I shook my head again. "I don't know"
"Please", she grabbed my hand. "Otherwise, Hangman would get the spot"
"Really?", I asked.
"I guess so. I've overheard a few things the other day. But Maverick doesn't trust him", she explained.
"Who does?", I giggled.
"Exactly, so please, Phantom", she begged.
"Alright", I nodded.
"Ah", she screamed and hugged me. "Great!"

"But there is one thing we need to talk about", she said and suddenly looked very serious.
"What?", I asked.
"What's going on there with Rooster and you?", she laughed.
"Oh, I wish I knew", I laughed back.
