Jake x Hailey

No one's POV

Jake decided to surprise Hailey by taking her on a date to an amusement park. The two of them had been having a lot of fun so far. Riding rollar coasters, getting good food to eat, playing games. The two of them were walking hand and hand, Hailey holding cotton candy on a stick and Jake carrying a medium plastic bag of caramel and cheese popcorn. A certain game booth caught Hailey's eye

It was a ball toss game. The prizes were different sized soft plushes of three different animals. Small birds, medium giraffes, and large ducks. It was the duck specifically that made Hailey stop walking and state at the booth. Jake also looked at it. This gave him the perfect chance to show off his skills to Hailey

"Hold my popcorn, princess?" he asked. Hailey took it as Jake strode up to the booth. "Five please" he said to the carnie. The carnie nodded and took the money, putting it in a clear container. He handed Jake five plastic balls and stood to the side. "How many points for the giant duck?"

"35." the carnie said. "It'd be somethin if you could actually get it. No one's been able to so far"

Jake shrugged. "No big, anything for the darling"

He looked at Hailey, who was smiling as pink tints appeared in her cheeks

Jake eyed the ball toss holes. Even with his terrible math skills, he attempted to calculate how he'd get to 35

He threw the first two balls, scoring 10 points. He missed with the third. After throwing the last two, he ended up with 15 points and was handed a small bird. Not what he was aiming for

"It's still super sweet of you" Hailey beamed as she put the tiny bird in her bag as to not get it dirty. Jake looked back at the booth. He was determined to get Hailey that duck

"Five more please."

"Huh?" Hailey said confused "Jake, you don't have to do that. I'm happy with the bird"

"Well, it doesn't hurt to try.."

Jake was handed five more balls and eyed the game again. He threw all five, getting another 15 points. "Ya want another bird?" the carnie asked, to which Jake shook his head no. "A'ight"

"You wanna go do something else?" Hailey asked, trying to get her competitive boyfriend away from the seemingly hard to beat game. "Maybe the ring toss? I can try to win you something!"

Jake didn't respond as Hailey grabbed his hand. The carnie looked at his phone, clearly forgetting the two teens were there. Suddenly they heard someone shout from another booth

"Yo, John! Can ya come help me get more prizes for the duck fishing?"

The carnie nodded and pocketed his phone. "Have a good day, you two". he said to Hailey and Jake right before leaving. Jake waited for him to leave, and then climbed over and behind the counter.

"Jake, what are you doing..?!" Hailey exclaimed. Jake picked up on of the balls he threw. He placed it up to the holes marked '10 points' and '20 points'

The ball didn't fit in either of the holes. He tried a few more and it was the same thing. All the balls were only big enough to fit in the hole marked '5 points'

"It's rigged!"

Hailey, who was trying to watch to make sure Jake wasn't caught, looked over in an instant. "What?"

She too climbed behind the counter and walked up beside Jake. "Are you sure? We don't wanna jump to conclusions"

Jake placed the ball in Hailey's hand, and she put it against each of the three holes. Her eyes widened and as she looked at the rigged game parts, Jake noticed a barrel hidden under the counter. He pulled it out, seeing it was filled with more balls, and took one out. He compared it with one of the others, being one of the ones he was given, and the one from the hidden barrel was bigger than the ones he was given. Quickly he stood, ran to the throw area, and lined up the once hidden ball with the '10 points' and '20 points' holes.

"Hey! You two!"

Hailey and Jake looked up, only to see the carnie coming back to the booth. The two of them got out as he got back in. "What're you two doing?! You should know you're not supposed to be back there!"

"Well, why is this game rigged?" Jake asked. The carnie began to try and think up an excuse, but nothing came out

---

Hailey and Jake were walking away from the booth, Hailey holding the giant duck. "Well, that was a...ball and a half" Jake said "pun intended"

Hailey laughed. "You really didn't have to go through all that trouble just over a duck, Jake"

Jake shrugged. "I'd do anything for ya, princess"

Hailey smiled as Jake put his arm around her. "Now, whaddya say we go for a spin on the bumper cars"

Hailey nodded and the two of them headed off
