Prologue

EVERYTHING happens for a reason but we are the only one who can make choices of what kind of life would we choose in the future. I take a deep breath while looking at my boss, Mr. Mike De Castro, whom handling me a piece of plane ticket for my flight this coming Friday in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Pinapapunta kasi ako sa main office ng kompanya para ibigay lahat ng dokumento na kakailanganin sa pag-alis ko next week papuntang Japan. Isa ako sa mga mapapalad na empleyado na nakapasok sa Sanitachi Corporation as a trainee. It is one of the best Software Developer in Asia at matagal ko ng pangarap na makapagtrabaho doon.

I'm a litte bit excited, scared and sad at the same time.

I'm excited because I'm one step closer to my dreams.

I'm scared because I don't even know if I can really do it.

And sad because I know I would be far from the only person who's very close to my heart.

But I already know and accepted the fact na hindi sa lahat ng oras ay mananatili kaming magkasama, Marco Vein Montenegro, my only bestfriend, or known as Mavien Montenegro.

Hindi ko pa nga nasasabi sa kanya ang tungkol dito. Natatakot kasi ako sa magiging reaksyon niya. Knowing him, I know he would freak out at malamang sa malamang na hindi papayag 'yon sa pag-alis ko.

"Congratulation, Scarlet! This will serve as your ticket in achieving your dreams. Prepare all the things you need to bring. I'm happy for you. You deserve to have this," nakangiting saad ni Sir Mike sa akin at ibinigay ang plane ticket na agad ko namang kinuha. Ngumiti nalang ako bilang ganti.

"Thank you po, Sir," I said in gratitude.

Tumango lang si Sir Mike sa akin and that's my cue to evaporate right in front of him.

Habang papalabas ako ng opisina, I can feel a heavy weight inside my chest. I know why I felt it. A part of me doesn't want to leave kasi masaya ako kapag kasama ko si Mavien but also a part of me wants to go dahil ito ang nararapat. Hindi sa lahat ng oras ay kailangang sa kanya lang umikot ang mundo ko.

We have different worlds. His with the woman he loves while here I am stuck under this shallow love. I should move on and find a way out bago pa tuluyang masira ang friendship naming dalawa.

Nakarating na ako sa bahay at 'yon parin ang tumatakbo sa isipan ko. Kung papaano ko sasabihin sa kanya ang tungkol dito. Humahanap lang kasi ako nang tamang pagkakataon.

Napabalikwas ako nang higa sa kama. I take a deep breath and sigh. I walk towards my table and open my laptop and see those filed documents I need to pass as requirements. Pinakatitigan ko 'yong mabuti.

You need to do this, Scarlet. I know you will.

"BOGGSSS!!"

Shit! I unconsciously close my laptop when I heard that voice and a loud thud of opening the door. I almost had a heart attack because of this idiot!

"Mavien Montenegro!" I screamed his name. "What the hell are you doing here? Hindi ka man lang ba marunong kumatok at pumasok nang mahinahon? You scared the shit out of me!" inis na singhal ko sa kanya.

He gave me an innocent smile and run towards my direction. I can almost feel my heart pounds when he hugs me so tight.

Damn this freaking heart!
