Dad walked into the police station, wide eyed, at four in the morning. Zeke too had been in the holding cell with me, but his mom had come to collect him earlier.

"Maydah Ahmad." Dad said once we were outside the police station. The cold air hit my face making me feel fresh and wide awake. I felt like I hadn't felt this cold air in ages. "What were you thinking?"

"I wasn't thinking, there was no time to think, they just took him and-"

"Took who? Slow down Maydah, what are you saying?" Dad asked cutting me off.

I was about to start when Dad said "Let's go for a walk,"

I knew he wanted to get away from the police station. So did I, I felt like we were being watched by a million cameras.  Dad and I walked in silence to the park which was completely deserted at this hour.

"They told me they took you in because you vandalised some old house." Dad broke the silence.

"Well here's what really happened." I took a deep breath and began the story.

"Is that really it?" Dad asked, noticing me flinching and Mr Daniels name. I still hadn't told him everything.

I nodded.

"I know your keeping something, and so far, I let you because I didn't think it was something too big. But now I realised I was wrong, so tell me, where's the other half of the story?"

"There's just so much to it," I confessed.

"It's four in the morning, you have three hours till school starts." Dad said.

"But Dad, you managed to keep me so naive about everything that happened when mom died, you took care of everything, you kept your worries to yourself so that I could be carefree..." I trailed off.

"Maydah, I obviousley didn't do a good job at it because if I did, you would have no idea about how much trouble I went through. But you do.. That much on it's own explains enough."

I kept silent, not knowing how to start.

"Maydah, we need each other, you can't handle any of this on your own and neither can I. We're a team."

And before I knew it the whole story of the last few months came pouring out. The poison in our drinks, the authorities threatening me. And finally, who the Head really was. Dad listened intentively and sighed when I'd finished.

"When will it all be over?" He asked hopelessly.

"Have faith dad,"

"I'm trying."

"You look like you haven't slept all night!" Azalea exclaimed the minute I walked into school.

"Good morning to you too,"

"I'm serious, what happened to you?" Azalea asked concerned.

"Like you said, I haven't slept the whole night,"

"Why?"

I told her the events of the night before.

"It goes from complicated to don't even go there huh?" Azalea said after I'd finished.

"You have no idea!" I agreed.

"So are you going to tell Zeke?" She asked.

"About?"

"His dad not being his dad," She reminded.

"I guess," I shrugged. "But how?"

"It shouldn't be too hard," Azalea stated. "Daniels is not some one you would mourn over if he wasn't your real father."

"True," I agreed.

"How's the art coming along Maydah?" Miss Mitchells asked cheerfully as usual. Her style was so exclusive, she was wearing a turtle neck white sweater with a white skirt and a black belt and black tights with vintage brown leather boots and her hair was tied up into a messy but attractive bun.

Luckily, even with everything happening, I had still managed to get started on it.

"Not bad, I haven't had much time to work on it though." I admitted.

"Don't worry about that, you still have time till the deadline," She assured

"Maydah!" Zeke called from behind.

"Well I'll see you later than," Miss Mitchells winked.

"Hey Zeke," I said as he came closer.

"What did your dad say?" He asked.

"Nothing, I told him the whole story." I said, "What about your mom?"

"I'm grounded for a month because apperantly I 'vandalised' some old house,"

"Didn't you tell her the truth?" I asked

Zeke shook his head. "She wouldn't have believed me."

"Why?"

"Because my dad was the one who told her all that crap."

"Oh," I said, wondering if this was a good time to tell him about his dad. Silent. A minute passed.

"Zeke listen." I started.

"What's up?"

"It's about your dad," I said.
