"I've spent years preparing for this encounter." Prince Zuko said as both he and Aang circled around each other. "Training, meditating. You're just a child."

Aang paused and looked slightly offended and confused as he raised a brow at the prince as he stated the obvious to him.

"Well you're just a teenager."

Prince Zuko threw some fire-bending moves at him and Aang used his staff to wield air and made sure it didn't harm him. He moved his position and started walking towards the tribe, that's when Prince Zuko took his chance and started going harder on him. Knowing that the younger boy couldn't save everyone from getting burned in the tribe.

Aang looked behind as he heard the fearful screams and seemed to realize the same thing. He air-bended the fire away and held his staff in front of him as he questioned the older boy.

"If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?"

Prince Zuko thought this over for a minute, arms still raised just in case the Avatar decided that this was a trick. When Prince Zuko realized that the Avatar was telling the truth he stood straighter and nodded his head in agreement. Aang let out a sigh of relief before two Fire Nation soldiers came up to him, one grabbing his staff while the other started leading him to the ship.

Mara stared in horror as the boy was escorted away from the tribe, quickly breaking away from the tribe she ran a couple of steps forward as she yelled out to Aang.

"No, Aang, don't do this!"

Aang looked back at the girl and gave her a smile, he knew that he would do everything in his power to come back to her. He knew deep down that she was somehow going to help him.

"Don't worry Mara." Aang said with the same smile he always gave her. "It'll be okay."

Mara stared after him worriedly as they pushed him roughly onto the ship, she covered her mouth in fear as she watched him go the same way her mother did.

"Take care of Appa for me until I get back "

Maea let a couple of tears slide down her face when Aang said this, he wouldn't be coming back. Katara quickly ran up to her sister and embraced her, making sure the younger girl looked away from Aang being led onto the ship.

"Head a course to the Fire Nation. I'm going home."

The ship's ramp began going back up, this time Katara stared up at Aang with fearful eyes. But the boy could only smile down at her, she knew he was doing this for her sister because the young boy had a huge crush on her. But she couldn't help but admire him for smiling even in the face of danger, Katara knew what both she and her sister were going to do.

They were going after Aang as soon as the Fire Nation left.

~After The Fire Nation Left~

The village people all walked around doing their duties somberly, because for the first time laughter was not heard in the village. The tribe cleaned up the mess the Fire Nation made, as they watched the children do it as well realizing how unhappy everyone was. Mara stood on the out bank of the village, looking over the water as she crossed her arms over her chest as she watched the sea with worry.

Katara stood next to her sister, her hands clasped together the older girl looked at her sister before looking at the sea as well as she told their pacing brother.

"We have to go after that ship, Sokka. Aang saved our tribe, now we have to save him."

Sokka paused his pacing and looked over at Mara, seeing how worried she was for the kid and then to Katara as he said.

"Katara I-"

"Why can't you realize that he's on our side?" Katara interrupted her brother as she angrily threw her hands in the air. "If we don't help him, no one will. I know you don't like Aang but we owe him and…"

"Katara, are you going to talk all day or are you coming with me?" Sokka said as he pointed to the canoe he had ready.

Mara and Katara turned and saw the canoe, both girls couldn't help but smile widely at their brother's obvious need to help people. Mara quickly ran up to her older brother and gave him a hug, Katara doing the same. Sokka smiled down at his sister's happiness, the three siblings parted and Sokka smiled down at them as he said.

"Get in, we're going to save Mara's boyfriend."

Mara glared angrily up at her brother as she punched his shoulder causing him to flinch as she said.

"He's not my-"

Katara quickly cut the girl off as she wrapped an arm around her sister's shoulder as she teased her.

"Oh really? Then why do you guys keep holding hands."

Sokka smirked and quickly joined in, wrapping his arm around Mara's waist as he also teased her.

"The two of you defending each other from Gran Gran."

Mara blushed darkly and smacked both her siblings in the chest, the three all chuckled before jumping out of their skins when they heard a familiar voice question them.

"What do you three think you're doing?"

The trio slowly turned around knowing that they'd been caught, they put their arms behind their backs and smiled innocently at their grandmother. Gran Gran couldn't help but smile as she saw those faces, it reminded her of her daughter, their mother when she used to get in trouble.

"You'll need these." She held out her hands, showing a packed roll. "You have a long journey ahead of you."

The three stared at one another in shock before Mara took a step forward, smiling at Gran Gran and taking the packed roll.

"Thanks Gran Gran, but why?"

"It's been so long since I've had hope but you've brought it back to life my little owl." Gran Gran explained, as she gave Mara a hug. "And you, my strong water bender, you've made me realize that I've been hiding in fear of the Fire Nation for too long." Gran Gran hugged Katara and then she turned to Sokka as she gave him a small smile. "And of course my brave warrior, be nice to your sisters."

Gran Gran hugged him, Sokka frowned a little but knew it was the truth as he hugged his grandmother back as well.

"Yeah, okay Gran Gran."

Gran Gran stepped back as she looked at her grandchildren who now stood in front of her ready to go on adventure of a lifetime, she knew they wouldn't be back for a while and she had to tell them the reality of Aang's face, of their fate now that their chasing after him

"Aang is the Avatar, he's the world's only chance you three found him for a reason. Now your destinies are intertwined with his."

Sokka and Katara looked at each other before looking down at Mara, who was taking everything in and seeming to memorize it. They both knew that their destinies were to follow Aang and so was their sisters, but they both believed that Mara had a more important role at Aang's side. Mara turned to look at the canoe as she said.

"There's no way we're going to catch a warship with a canoe."

They heard groaning and looked up to find Appa walking towards them, Katara and Mara looked at each other excitedly and both exclaimed.

"Appa!"

The two girls ran towards the sky bison, knowing that Appa would catch up to the warship in no time. Sokka stood by Gran Gran watching his sister's run to the fluffy beast, as he said to himself.

"You two love just taking me out of my comfort zone, don't you."

Gran Gran giggled at her grandson's misfortune, she turned to look at Sokka as she pulled out a journal and handed it to the boy as she said.

"This is for Mara, give it to her when you have a chance won't you."

"Of course Gran Gran."

Sokka chased after his sister's, sighing as he placed the journal in his bag.
