the start of something real and new

twenty-two year old biana vacker paced around the cottage-like house her parents and the songs had bought for their children. scowling deeply, she checked her phone for the twentieth time that evening. 11:53, it read.

tam song, her fiancé, was late. again.

if it was the third or fourth time, biana would've let it pass. but this had been going on for an entire month. although the engagement was purely business-- or so she told herself, she had the right to know whether or not her fiancé was coming home or not.

this time, she decided, she was not going to let the tardiness pass. this time, she was going to give it to him.

tapping her foot impatiently, biana checked the time again. 12:03. alright, that was it. she had had enough. she pulled a pale pink cardigan over her lacy light grey nightgown and slipped her feet into pale pink slippers. "fitz, i'm outside!" she called to her elder brother.

no reply.

biana sighed; he was probably too busy with his boyfriend to care.

she stepped out, onto the porch, and wrapped the cardigan around herself tighter. it was breezy and cool outside the house.

with each passing moment, the air around her grew colder and colder and the sky darkened with thunderstorm clouds. biana felt as if she were in a horror movie, waiting for something scary to jump out of the dark. it certainly didn't help that there was no sound, safe for the chirping of crickets and the hooting of owls in the distance.

the sound of a motor vehicle drew closer and closer, and biana's heart leapt in her chest.

a sleek black car pulled up to their driveway and out stepped tam song. he was laughing, and said something to someone before the car drove back out.

her heart fluttered in her chest at the sound of his laugh, but biana scowled stubbornly, remembering her anger. here she was, waiting and waiting for him to come home, and he was off having fun somewhere with someone random.

tam's eyes widened as he met her narrowed eyes and he opened his mouth to say something, but biana just turned sharply and stomped back inside the house.

he followed her inside, silently taking his shoes off at the door. "you didn't have to wait up for me."

"where have you been?!" biana all but shrieked at him, looking all molly-weasley-like with her hands on her hips and a fiery glint in her eyes. her eyes assessed his leather jacket, dark trousers and "cool kid" hairstyle.

tam frowned softly. "what do you mean where have i been? i never ask you that when you're out with your friends. it's my private, personal time."

'it's my private, personal time'. the words echoed in biana's ears and a feeling like a fist was crushing her heart rushed through her. what if there was a girl in the car with him? a girl that wasn't her? "i'm never out with my friends after 10," biana snapped, feeling an irrational anger.
