Valencia Petranova and Kaz Brekker grew up inseparable from each other. Where Valencia went, Kaz followed. From Kaz and his brother falling ill and Valencia believing they were both dead to joining the dregs , they stuck together. So, naturally, neither Kaz nor Valencia were happy when her parents decided to move to Ravka for some absurd reason they didn't want to tell the young teens.
While in Ravka, young Valencia learned of her being a squaller and was send to the little palace, where she caught the eye of a certain General. During her time training Valencia strived to control her powers, while also forming many friendships and a relationship with the young man also known as the darkling.
Over the years her longing for home and her old friendships started to become unbearable. When news of her parents passing reached Valencia, she decided to leave the little palace and return to Ketterdam, where she found her old friends and rejoins the crows, her newfound powers being very useful in their line of work.
Thinking she had finally left the little palace and her old lover in the past, she was ready to look into the future with her family by her side. But, saints was she wrong.
