Impatiently Stevie waited until Lindsey was going to be with her. The hours dragged by, making her nervously checking her phone what seemed like every two minutes. She had a weird feeling about the time he had mostly spent with Kristen and their children. She couoldn't even say what made her feel uneasy. When it was shortly after six and Lindsey still hadn't come to her, she once more reached for her phone, texting him.

Hesitating for a moment, Stevie reread what she had written, asking herself if she wasn't interpreting too much into this. Deciding - for the moment - that she was, she flipped her phone shut. She was going to give him some more time. Lindsey was coming back to her, there was no need to worry. He was just spending time with his children, something that totally normal and harmless after he hadn't seen them for months.

When another hour passed the insecurities came back. What if this wasn't just Lindsey spending time with his family. What if he had reconsidered, if Kristen and he had decided that they couldn't ignore the past fifteen years of marriage, the fact that they had children together? What if the time Lindsey had spent with his ex had made them decide that they would try to work things out?

She only was brought out of her thoughts when her phone beeped. A message, at last. For a second she asked herself why she was that nervous. But when she reached for her phone, seeing it was indeed Lindsey who had contacted her, Stevie sighed in relief. What finally put her mind at ease was the message. He would be back in an hour. And he loved her.

When finally hearing the knock on her door, Stevie bolted up from the couch, rushing to open the door. She didn't even really took time to see who was standing there when she waste time and threw herself into his arms, kissing him.

"I think we should spend more time apart from the other if this is your reaction to it." Lindsey joked after she had pulled back from him, remembering that they stood in the middle off the hallway.

"Don't you dare." She was still smiling brightly as she pulled him into her condo. "Don't you dare t ever leave me alone again."

"Who was spending the past one and a half weeks in New York?"

"Had I known that we were back together then, I would have never promised to be there." Stevie protested. "But I'm here now."

They went into the living room. It seemed as if Stevie had either really tried to make an effort, something she should know was absolutely unnecessary with him. Or, and Lindsey thought that this was more likely, Stevie had tried to somehow calm her nerves down. The room was lit only by countless candles and a fire in the hearth. And it seemed as if she had been sitting on the couch, wrapped in her cashmere blankets, cuddling with Sulamith.

"For me?" He raised an eyebrow at her when they sat down on the couch.

"Lindsey, no offense, but I know you." She laughed.

"And still you welcome me back with a sea of this." He held up a corner of the blanket she had wrapped back around herself.

"You should know me by now." Stevie told him and cuddled close. "This is what you'll have to live with from now on." She couldn't help but laugh at his playfully disgusted expression. "But you still love me, candles, cashmere and everything else."

Not really leaving him any chance to reply, Stevie leaned up, kissing him. She was glad that he was back with her, that she had him back by her side. It was unbelievable just how fast and how much she had gotten used t having him around all the time again.

"I love you." She whispered before breaking the kiss.

"I love you too." Lindsey replied, and pulled her back close for another kiss. "Don't doubt it."

"I didn't..." She tried to stop this conversation before it began.

"You said it, I know you." He shook his head. "And I know that this just didn't happen. You tried to relax and calm down. Only that I don't know why."

"I know it's been ridiculous." She sighed, resting her head against his shoulder. "But I just couldn't stop my thoughts from wandering... you know that after this past week or so, that you might think about..."

"What? That I would go back to Kristen?" He asked, already laughing at the thought.

"See, I told you that it's ridiculous." Stevie glared.

"It is." He calmed her before a scowling expression came to his face. "But what we need to talk about is how you open doors."

"Why would we need to talk about that?"

"Because you couldn't have possibly known that it was me how stood there, but still I had you wrapped all around me."

"And who else should have knocked at my door?" She wanted to know.

"I don't know. Maybe..."

"Lindsey."

"Yes?" He stopped his playful rant.

"Shut up and kiss me."

Of course he came back. Did anyone really think he would... xoxo
