It was worth it

Hearing the door open, Lindsey turned around. Stevie had obviously just woken up, finding herself alone in bed. It wasn't noon yet, which was why he hadn't thought she would already be up yet.

"Oh my god, she's awake."

"Fuck you."

She muttered, wrapping the robe she wore further around herself as she made her way through the room and came to stand in front of him. Arms crossed in front of her.

"I thought I already did that last night?"

He raised an eyebrow at her, and then reached out, pulling her to sit next to him on the couch.

"Why are you here, and not in bed with me?"

 "You're here now."

"Come back with me." Stevie got up, tucking against the hold he still had on her hands. "I don't want to get up yet."

"Please don't tell me that I need to get used to this sleeping schedule as well." He teased, but allowed her to pull him back into the other room, and then into bed.

"I didn't say anything about sleeping." She replied as she cuddled close to him. "I went to bed early last night, so I can get up earlier. I just want to stay with you like this for a little longer."

"Any special reason why we couldn't stay in the living room?"

Lindsey thought that she was thinking about something. And he wasn't too sure if he wanted her to think about whatever it was too much. That had caused too much trouble in the past.

"I just feel that when we get up we have to talk about all these things I don't want to talk about now. I just want to stay here and blissfully ignore everything that we might talk about. You know, like how we will handle this whole thing."

"How we will handle this whole thing?" He repeated, wanting to know what she meant.

"I knew I didn't want to talk just yet." Stevie was pouting.

"Then don't drop something like that." He replied. "But what did you mean?"

"You just decided to end fifteen years of marriage. And I don't know how much you and Kristen already talked... but there are so many things you two need to figure out. And what about your children? I don't want them to think that I'll take you from them, and..."

Stevie would have continued to ramble if it wasn't for him. Lindsey knew that these were things they needed to talk about sometime soon, but she wasn't the only one who didn't want to talk now. They could try to figure it out later.

"Shh..." He placed a kiss on her lips. "Right now I just want to know about one thing."

"What?"

"Are you having second thoughts about us?"

"No." She shook her head. "I'm not having second thoughts. I came to realize that we wasted too much time. That we could have somehow worked things out ages ago. I don't plan on ever letting go of us again. No matter what."

"Really no matter what?"

"Lindsey if you tell me one more time that she is pregnant, then I'll make her a widow before you have time to divorce her."

She might be laughing and was winking at him, letting him know that she wasn't really meaning it, but there was something in her voice that let him know that she meant business. He didn't think that he would like the consequences of fucking them up again.

"You won't hear that again." Lindsey hurried to say.

"I hope. But I wouldn't just let you go again."

"Don't you think that's all we need to know right now?"

"No." She protested, now glaring at him. "Lindsey, I'm the one who will be blamed for you and Kristen getting divorced. It's the reason why I didn't want this to happen already."

"You were pretty clear about that when I asked you over to talk. What made you change your mind?"

Lindsey wanted to know about that, after all she found it important enough to bring it up again.

"I thought about the last time we tried to make this relationship work. Maybe we shouldn't have broken up again, I don't know. But I know that I don't want to waste any more time. If things had gone differently, we could have been together all this time. We would be married for sixteen years."

"Why did you let me go? You had everything planned..."

He had wondered about that for years. To be honest he had wondered about it the second she had told him they couldn't be together anymore. But never before had he felt brave enough to ask her.

"As I said, love is watching you go. We might have been happy, and married. But you wanted something I couldn't give you anymore. I saw it in your eyes, when you told me Kristen was pregnant. You wanted that baby, even if you didn't know it back then, I did. I love you, and I couldn't have lived with the knowledge that I kept you from having your children."

"While you were alone all the time."

"It was worth it." Stevie smiled and leaned in for a kiss. "I always had faith that one day this would happen. I knew that I would have you back some day. I just didn't think it would take this long."

"You're unbelievable." He pulled her close.

"You wouldn't want me any other way."

"No, I don't. And I don't plan on ever letting go off you again, now that I have you here." As if to prove his words, his hold around her tightened.

"I think you will have to let me go again. I don't think we can continue the tour like this."

"Not that you run again."

"I won't. As you said, I had everything planned..."

Thank you for sticking with me, still. Love, Dani
