Poems about daily struggles and overwhelming moments (anxiety, overthinking, trust issues etc.) One of my favorites: We go through the motions Every morning visualizing the moment we will finally be in bed again You wake up, slowly getting through the day As the hours go by the anxiety and stress and expectations pile onto you Our parents scolding us that we're lazy They don't know we hate ourselves for it They don't know we spend endless hours staring at our phone with jealousy and defeat We watch people's best lives as we're going through our worst moments The world is burning and the hate is easier to give than ever So no... being a teenager isn't easy Images assault us, screaming we're not good enough Because the person we're watching is 17 and a millionaire While we practice out smile in the mirror making sure it looks sincere Instagram account: @my.poetry.reads - Pretty people also cry Complete

Just a spot for my poetry going into 2023. Criticism welcome. As a novelist, I look at short stories and poems as exercises. Poetry in particular helps me with word choice, coherence, and ironically writing speed. I've always struggled with an appreciation for poetry in particular as the discourse around it can be too ambivalent or too exclusive. As with all of my work, my skills come from self exploration and discussions with writers I've met in my life. I'll try to keep the poems clean, but please assume that you may need to do some arduous self reflection. I hope you get something out of this. A S H
