Shakespeare's Sonnets is the title of a collection of 154 sonnets by William Shakespeare, which covers themes such as the passage of time, love, beauty and mortality. The first 126 sonnets are addressed to a young man; the last 28 to a woman. The sonnets are almost all constructed from three quatrains, which are four-line stanzas, and a final couplet composed in iambic pentameter. This is also the meter used extensively in Shakespeare's plays. The rhyme scheme is abab cdcd efef gg. Sonnets using this scheme are known as Shakespearean sonnets. Often, the beginning of the third quatrain marks the volta ("turn"), or the line in which the mood of the poem shifts, and the poet expresses a revelation or epiphany. - Seasonal Sonnets Complete

*Introduction to Shakespeare's Sonnets* The Sonnets are Shakespeare's most popular works, and a few of them, such as Sonnet 18 (Shall I compare thee to a summer's day), Sonnet 116 (Let me not to the marriage of true minds), and Sonnet 73 (That time of year thou mayst in me behold), have become the most widely-read poems in all of English literature. *Composition Date of the Sonnets* Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets, likely composed over an extended period from 1592 to 1598, the year in which Francis Meres referred to Shakespeare's "sugred sonnets": The witty soul of Ovid lives in mellifluous & honey-tongued Shakespeare, witness his Venus and Adonis, his Lucrece, his sugared sonnets among his private friends, &c. (Palladis Tamia: Wit's Treasury) In 1609 Thomas Thorpe published Shakespeare's sonnets, no doubt without the author's permission, in quarto format, along with Shakespeare's long poem, The Passionate Pilgrim. The sonnets were dedicated to a W. H., whose identity remains a mystery, although William Herbert, the Earl of Pembroke, is frequently suggested because Shakespeare's First Folio (1623) was also dedicated to him. - Sonnets on Sundry Notes of Music Ongoing

My favorite poetry. The majority will cover themes that have to do with a sort of wondering or longing. Expect a lot of Walt Whitman and Shakespeare. Also a huge DPS fan so a lot of the poems from that will be in here. - Pop Sonnets Ongoing

Songs from all our favorite bands... but in the style of Shakespearean sonnets! (Well, to the best of my ability lol. Despite my username, I do not claim to be a Shakespeare expert). Last year in school, we had the option to write a sonnet based on a modern-day song (as inspired by poet Erik Didriksen, who essentially pioneered the concept of pop sonnets) for extra credit. So, I wrote two! Figured I'd put them here (I'll likely write more in the future). Obligatory disclaimer: I do not take any credit for the songs that I am basing these sonnets off of.
