The Originals
S3:E2
———————————

"What's the emergency? Tonight's the full moon and I need to meet Alex." Veronica said, walking into the Lafayette Cemetery where Davina was.

Davina gulped, evidently on edge as she took the brunettes arm and led her into one of the tombs. Noticing candles and a few other items placed on the table, Veronica slightly tilted her head and furrowed her eyebrows.

"I need your help, Roni."

"Davina, you know I'd love to help you but tonight's the only night that I get to see–"

"I can help you with that," The witch interrupted, "I know I refused to help a couple months ago, but I can stop the curse. I just need you to do something for me first."

Veronica nodded, gesturing for her to continue her terms.

"There's a witch in the 9th Ward who hates that I'm Regent. She tried to kill me. If I retaliate, I'm starting a civil war, and I don't want to do that. I know you have a lot of pent-up anger you need to let out and I thought this would benefit both of us."

The hybrid opened her mouth to reply, then shut it. Before becoming apart of the supernatural world, Veronica wasn't too keen on murder. When her father trained her, she was just learning self defense, not actual killing. Of course, after being introduced to the dangers that were lurking in the shadows, her views shifted. Although it sounded a bit dreary, the brunette realized that killing couldn't be prevented and was sometimes needed. However, after turning into a vampire, these views only became more prominent and drove her to not be guilty for taking a life.

"What do you need me to do?"

Davina grinned before explaining the plan she had. After taking some blood and cutting off a piece of her hair, the witched mixed the items in a bowl and poured it over one of the candles. Soon after, a red crescent moon appeared. Beforehand, Veronica was a bit hesitant and confused as to how the spell would keep the pack from turning. Dismissing her worries, Davina claimed that since she was married to Alex and he was apart of the pack, the spell would still work.

"I put a cloaking spell on you just incase. The witch's name is Kara Nguyen. She runs a café, Chim Lac, in the lower 9th Ward. She'll be there before dawn."

Nodding her head, Veronica turned to exit the tomb, stopping in her tracks when the younger girl called out her name.

"Veronica. Thank you, again. I promise you'll see Alex."

Sending her a quick smile, the hybrid sped out of the tomb and made her way to the witch's location.

After crouching behind stacked up crates for a few minutes, Kara finally arrived. Once the witch finished signing her name on a clipboard and the delivery man walked away, Veronica came out from her hiding spot.

Using her speed, the hybrid flashed in-front of Kara, taking the witch by surprise. Veronica bit into her neck, ignoring her screams as she drank some blood before snapping her neck. While wiping the edge of her mouth to get rid of the extra blood, she failed to notice the ten witches coming out of the shadows until it was too late.

Doubling to the ground in pain, Veronica let out a groan and clutched her head. After a couple seconds passed, the hybrid let out a high pitched wail which seemed to through the witches off guard. Taking the advantage, Veronica sped towards the nearest witch, snapping her neck before moving onto the next one. Soon, all ten witches were on the ground, some by necks being snapped or hearts being ripped out and discarded next to them.

Veronica clenched her jaw, taking in the sight of eleven bodies on the floor. She had only agreed to kill one woman, not massacre a bunch of witches. Of course, she could play it off as self defense for them inflicting a spell upon her, but she knew there was a possible way for her to escape without murdering all of them. However, it didn't matter anymore. Reminding herself that there's no way to bring them back, Veronica quickly left the scene and rushed back to see if Davina held up her end of the deal.

As the brunette was about to enter the cemetery, her phone buzzed in her back pocket. Taking it out, she read Elijah's text that told her to come to the compound as soon as she could. Veronica knew Elijah was aware of her avoiding the place at all costs, but she also knew he wouldn't ask her to come if it wasn't important. Forcing all of her anxiety away, Veronica sped to the compound.

Right as she entered, she saw Alex, Elijah, Freya, Hope, and much to her displeasure, Klaus. Ignoring everyone else, the hybrid ran over to her husband, throwing her arms around his neck as he strongly wrapped his arms around her waist. Taking a deep breath, Veronica felt a weight being lifted off her shoulders. The spell Davina did worked and Alex was here. They were finally together after only being able to see each other once a month.

The last thought caused Veronica to snort in her head, recalling how she joked with Alex the third month by saying their situation was like a period. He didn't find it very amusing. Deciding it wasn't the most appropriate time to laugh, Veronica bit her cheek and pulled back, smiling once she saw Alex's face. Unfortunately, her mood dampened after taking in his expression.

"Veronica, why are you covered in blood?"

Remembering the event that just occurred, the brunette gulped, taking a few steps back and fiddled with the ring on her finger. She was never shy and didn't get too anxious talking in front of people, but those feelings went down the drain after feeling the eyes of everyone in the room. Opening her mouth to reply, Veronica was cut off by a short laugh.

"Isn't it obvious? Or has being in an animal state for too long messed with your head," Klaus spoke, raising an eyebrow at Alex before giving everyone an amused face. "Veronica here has gone out on a feeding rampage, tapping into her true hybrid nature. Looking at you now reminds me a bit of Kol–"

The original was interrupted by a slap to the face, clearly not expecting the brunette to speed forward and start attacking him.

Veronica clenched her jaw, raising her hand to send a punch to his cheek. Once she tried to send another, Klaus caught her hand midway, his guard being brought back. Growing frustrated, the banshee raised her knee, landing a hit in his abdomen before taking her hand out of his grasp and pushing him back. Storming forward, Veronica sent another punch to his cheek before landing one to his jaw. As she delivered a fourth one, it was as if she blacked out. Once Klaus began to fight pack, it was like her body went into autopilot. She began to listen to the voices in her head, the ones telling her exactly what to do and what would hurt the original the most. Although it seemed a bit weird taking fighting instructions from the whispers of ancestors, Veronica couldn't find it in herself in that moment to care. All she wanted to do was hurt Klaus.

Veronica didn't even notice she was on the other side of the compound before a pair of arms were around her waist and dragging her back, causing for her to struggle out of the grasp.

"Calm down. It's okay." Alex whispered in her ear, repeating other calming words as he turned the brunette around and leaned her head against his chest. Using one hand to brush through her hair, the male stared daggers at Klaus.

Alex had never wanted to come to the compound in the first place. When Veronica didn't show up at the bayou, he became nervous and thought something happened. He quickly found Elijah and talked to the original, unfortunately running into Klaus. After Freya did a locator spell and they were unable to locate the hybrid, Alex was worried beyond belief. When Veronica came through the compound doors after reading the text Elijah had sent earlier, Alex was no doubt relieved.

But now, seeing the woman he loved in such a state, worried him again. He didn't believe a word Klaus said because he knew Veronica would never kill innocent people, but he couldn't help but feel a bit weary about the amount of blood soaked on her clothes. Being a vampire, Alex knew murder was inevitable. Of course, he was not one and never judged when Veronica had to feed and would continue to never judge her, but he couldn't shake the feeling he was having.

Veronica listened to the steady heartbeat, matching her breathing until she was no longer out of breath. Swallowing the lump in her throat, the brunette softly pushed herself off of her husband and looked over his shoulder to meet the gaze of Hope. Feeling a small smile set on her lips, Veronica walked forward and picked up her daughter, resting her face in the crook of her small neck and placed a small kiss on her cheek.

Turning around to face everyone else in the compound, the brunette cleared her throat before speaking in the most emotionless voice she could conquer.

"I'm sorry for the disturbance I caused. I'm going to take Hope with me back to my home."

"No, you're not!" Klaus immediately refused, stepping forward.

"It's her day to have her, brother." Freya said in a small yet demanding tone.

Meeting Alex's eyes, she gave him a small nod, indicating that they were ready to go. Moving away from the family, Alex quickly made his way over to his wife and placed a hand on her lower back, guiding her outside the compound.

Soon enough, the three had made it back to the apartment.

Veronica placed Hope in her crib and quickly took a shower, changing into cleaner clothes that were not covered in blood. Once Alex finished showering, he joined the brunette on the couch.

Veronica immediately began telling her husband what happened. She knew that she should've somewhat eased into it, but she couldn't help but spill the whole event in one go. The hybrid didn't want to keep any secrets from Alex and wanted to tell him everything, even if there was a chance he'd be upset with her over what she did.

"You murdered all those witches, for the pack?"

"Well, not technically. I only killed Kara because that's what Davina and I agreed to but then this group came out and started to literally melt my brain, so I had to kill them as well. I know it sounds horrible and what I did was wrong, but I couldn't risk them telling anyone. It would lead back to Davina and they would then have every right to go after her."

Alex nodded, staying silent for a moment before scooting over from his spot on the couch closer to Veronica. He brought one arm up and wrapped it around her side, resulting in the brunette leaning her head on his shoulder.

"How long will this last?"

"Davina's spell is protecting the candle, but it's only temporary. Hopefully we can find a permanent solution soon."

The couple stayed in each other's embrace, silently thankful that they could spend longer than what the full moon allowed. Unbeknownst to them, trouble would soon begin to stir again in the French Quarter. This time, it would take more than any of them could imagine.
