Emma's baby is absolutely adorable. She's just two months old but Emma came back to work ealy. I text her back to let her know the address and asked if she can drop her off at 6 because it's a 30 minute drive to the hospital from the erics.
Its 550 and I keep checking the time " Are you sure it's okay?" This is like my tenth time asking Eric if he's really okay with the baby coming over for the night and Vera staying over to get used to having a baby around.
"Yes im sure its not a problem" he's sitting on the couch drinking a beer with Jack. Those two have gotten really close. If I wasn't the one in his bed at night I would swear they had a bromance thing going on.
I heard a knock at the door and I went to answer it but V beat me to it. She's just as happy to see Emma and the baby as I am.
"Thank you guys so much I owe you big time" Emma's short brown hair is pulled back and her hazel eyes are just as pretty as always. I walk over to her and she hands me the baby carrier and diaper bag while she brings in the snuggle nest so the baby will be safe in bed with us.
I walked back into the living room and placed the carrier down on the floor and bent over taking the blanket off.
" She looks so much like Robbert" I can't hide my laughter. She's a small little thing with jet black hair on the top of her head, her eyes are closed and she is suckikg on her binky.
Vera comes over and her arms are ready to get the baby out of the car seat when Stella cries out stopping her in her tracks.
" Don't tell me you're afraid of a little crying" I pick Stella up and hand her to V. " alright start training because here soon you will have one" Vera takes Stella in her arms awkwardly and sits down beside jake.
Emma is standing by the door as I walk over to her she smiles at me "thank you really" she pulls me in for a hug
" don't worry about it, you know i'm great with babies. If I can change a breathing tube on a two day old baby weighing less than a pound I'm sure your baby will make it through the night. " I smile at her trying to make her worry less. I did my fair share on the NICU and it used to be my favorite place to work.
" I know you trained me how to do it remember" she put her elbow into my side "Alright I will see you in the morning"
Walking back to the living room I can hear Stella crying. Vera is sitting on the couch trying to rock her but it's not helping Stella cries even louder.
Vera's eyes meet mine and she jumps up and starts walking towards me. I put my hand out in front of me and sat down beside Eric who was eyeing the baby.
"Come on Kat please" she awkwardly tries to rock Stella to sooth her but its not helping.
" V your pregnant relax plus babies can sense stress the more you stress the more she will cry." I cuddle into Eric's chest and relax as he wraps his arm around my waist letting his hand relax on my stomach.
" I know but it's like she hates me. She won't stop" she looks really flustered. I tap Eric's hand and he lets go. I get up and take my hoodie off leaving me in a low cut shirt as I reach out and take stella out of her arms.
Stella almost instantly stops crying as I bring her closer to my chest. Vera put her hands on her hips and crinkled up her nose.
" See she hates me" I laugh and sit back down leaning into Erics chest this time he puts his arm over my chest patting Stella's back.
" She doesn't hate you, this is her first time meeting you. I have been around Stella a lot. Plus can I tell you something"
Jake puts his arm over her stomach and she giggles. "What?"
" My mother always said that babies can sense the gender" I can feel the smile on my face grow bigger when her face perks up and she sits up.
"If the baby is fussy when you hold it it's the same gender if the baby is calm it's the opposite." Stella makes a small noise and I look down seeing her beautiful hazel eyes. I can't help but smile she's so adorable.
" So you think I'm having a girl?"the pure excitement that she has in her voice makes me think that's what she wants as well.
" You can't tell for sure until the ultrasound but my mother was never wrong when it came to telling people what they were having"
" So that means your having a bo-"
My glare instantly shuts her up and stella cries out a little as she turns her head closer to my chest trying to latch on.
"She's hungry" I jump a little when I feel his hot breath on my neck as he's looking down at Stella.
I can see V talking to Jake quietly and I overheard my name. I Shot another glance in her direction.
" She is V come get her please and I'll show you how to make her bottle"
Vera follows me into the kitchen and I get the breast milk out of the freezer and run some hot water.
"Kat. Can I ask you something"
Just from the tone in her voice I already know what she wants to ask me.
" I don't know, okay." My answer is enough for her as she nodes and walks back into the living room.
" What don't you know?" He's standing right behind me his chest is pressed against my back.
" Another time okay?" I hand him the warm bottle and he holds my hand.
"Okay whenever you're ready to talk. " Odd normally he pushes the subject. Maybe I have been biting his head off a little too much lately.
Vera has done well all the way up until she was trying to change Stella and didn't change her fast enough and Stella peed all over V.
I don't think I have laughed that hard in a long time. Seeing Jake running around trying to figure out what to do and V just sitting in front of Stella crying hand me bending over holding my stomach from laughing too hard.
"Fine since you two think you're so good at this it's your turn. Tag your it." She sticks her tongue out at me .
" That's one tag I will gladly take." I get up and pick up Stella. She has pee all over her. " I'm going to go give her a bath you clean this up V" I picked up her diaper bag and made my way to my room .Holding her to my chest I turned the water on and filled the tub up. I'm just going to take a bath with her since I got her pee on my chest.
"Need any help?" Eric peeks his head inside
"Actually yes will you grab a towel and hold her for a second.?"
He didn't say anything as he wrapped the towel around stella and held her to his chest. He looked like a natural.I turned the water off feeling it making sure it wasn't too warm for her.
"Since I'm a little wet from picking her up I'm going to get in with her" I really didn't have to tell him I'm sure he figured that out when I started taking my clothes off.
"So no sexy shower time tonight then?"
"Oh no we are still getting our alone time. This is practice for them. I don't need practice. I'm good with newborns. '' My words could be taken out of context but he doest read much into them.
Shit. I'm about to take my pants and underwear off but then he would notice that I don't have a pad on. I should just tell him the truth, it was light spotting .
"So I want to talk to you about something." Before I could continue he stopped me by speaking.
"I just wanted to say i'm sorry for how I acted this morning. I know that this is mainly my fault because I forgot to use a condom on our first night and since then I have really only thought about starting a family with you. I know it seems fast but it doesn't feel that way to me. I have loved you for a long time and it's fine if you don't feel that way about me right now..but I just wanted to apologize for how I acted when you told me you started your period a part of me wished you wouldn't."
What? He loves me. My heart starts to beat fast and my stomach feels like it's in knots the pain actually took me by surprise. I normally don't get painful cramps.The fact that he openly told me he was hoping I didn't get my period takes a little stress off my shoulders.
"Eric. I did think I got my period but it was just spotting" I take my pants and underwear off and reach for Stella taking her in my arms holding her close to my chest.
I heard the door open and V came walking in and she stopped when she saw us.
"I'm sorry I thought you would be in his bathroom" Her eyes look at me up and down and then over to Eric stopping at Stella in my arms.
"She could pass as your kid" she smiles and pretends to take a picture.
" V get out before Jake follows you up here and sees me naked.
I step into the tub holding Stella close to me as Vera closes the door behind her. Eric sits beside the tub and takes out my hair letting it fall down into the water.
"So what are you trying to say?" He picks up a washcloth and runs it down my neck making me shudder under his touch.
"It means I don't know. They are usually light but never that light so it's just a matter of waiting" I bring my knees up out of the water setting stella between them so she's half in the water laying her back against my legs. "Can i have the baby wash please"
He was already getting it before I asked and handed me a new wash cloth "thanks" As I washed Stella off he started washing my hair. It feels very intimate and relaxing. It feels right holding a child in my arms with him behind me. Only the sound of water splashing is what fills the silence.
"Stella you smell so good" I lift her up slightly bringing her face to mine rubbing my nose on her cheek. Her eyes go big and she starts to laugh and smile while grabbing a hand full of my hair "Oh you like hair do you?" I gently take her hand in mine and get my hair from around her fingers." Here let's wash your hair" I cup some water in my hand and rub it on her hair. She starts kicking her legs a little wiggling around.
"Oh I think she likes that" Eric is laughing beside me. Stella freezes when she hears his voice.
"Okay little lady you're all done I don't want you to start getting cold." Eric takes her from me putting her in a nice big towel and taking her out of the bathroom.
Wrapping my robe around me I stand in the bathroom doorway watching Eric sitting on my bed getting Stella dressed in a sleeper. He zips it up and picks her up sofly talking to her I can see her smiling at him as she brings her hand up to his face.
"You're good at that" I point to Stella in his arms and make my way to my closet getting out some shorts and a tank top to put on.
"I told you I like babies. My sister Anna has two already and she's due any day with her 3rd" He did mention his sister was pregnant
"Whats this?" I picked up a bag that was sitting on the edge of the bed and opened it. "Vera" I pulled the pregnancy test out and a note fell out along with it.
"Kat I love you but just take one better to find out then to not know. P.S keep stella tonight im about to get me some hot shower sex Xo- V" . Eric comes up behind me with Stella in one arm reading the note over my shoulder.
"So no alone time for us tonight" He chuckled and kissed my neck.
"I guess not"
