Saturday morning, Mila woke up looking at the side of her bedroom where a dainty red dress was hanging from her door. Normally girls would wake up like this on their wedding day, or prom but Mila had the same excitement for something... well less important.
Her first Caroline Black Halloween party.
Halloween parties at the Black's house was known to be one of the biggest parties of the year,
The amount of virginity that has been taking in her house was actually scary, but it was a party where everyone who knew someone was invited.
A knock on her door was heard, causing Mila to stop her daydreaming and focus as the door opened showing Aera in her red strawberry pajama set. "Ready for the party?" She asked as she wiggled her eyebrows.
Even though Mila had been back in school, for now, a week, she had heard knowing from either one of her parents, which honestly suited Mila better. Her notebook was filled with stories.
Hamilton was only a corner away and if they couldn't be happy for her, she didn't even want them. Even though she missed the smell of her mother's perfume, that would always scent up the whole house, and her father laughing at bad movies on the tv.
Mila sat up a bit straight as she looked at her dear friend. "Never been more ready, I am however scared" She answered, fiddling with her fingernails as she spoke, Aera bit her lip as she placed herself on Mila's bed.
"Have you talked to Luke?" Aera asked, of course, she had also gotten the whole talk, her only answers being about how stupid both of them was, that if Luke kissed her, he obviously liked her back, but Mila was however not convinced.
"No... And I won't... he is bad for me and you know that" Mila said, however, Aera's next words made Mila widen her eyes, she never thought about it, it never even crossed her mind. "Okay... what are you doing on Sunday?"
Mila gulped as she tried to hold down her anxiety: "That time is sleeping" Mila said, trying to sound more confident than she felt as she flashed her friend a smile. "Tonight I am gonna get drunk, have fun with you and the boys, and just enjoy being back in school"
Aera widened her eyes as she almost laughed: "Who are you? And what did you do to Mila?"
The morning went by quicker than both of them thought and around eight both of them were in full costume, make-up, and ready for a good party. Mila felt confident in her dress, even though it was almost lingerie.
Her dress was blood red, and on her cheeks using Aera's makeup, she had painted hearts as freckles using eyeshadow, her curls were put up in a ponytail and in a red belt, a bow and arrow formed as a heart were hanging.
"How do I look?" Mila asked as she looked at Aera who was dressed as Rachel from "Friends", a tv series she and Caroline were obsessed with and haven't stopped talking about since its second season began running back in September.
"Like more than Luke's eyes will be on you" Aera wiggled her eyebrows as she smirked, yet Mila simply took a deep breath and nodded. "Is it too much?" Aera didn't get to finish as the doorbell rang and Aera ran out the door faster than a girl seeing a bee.
The sounds of: "Oh my god you look amazing!" and "wow, that's hot" were heard from the living room, as Mila slowly walked down the stairs, her eyes catching Reggie's who's smile grew wider.
"Wow... you look amazing Mila" Reggie spoke as Mila nodded slowly with a smile: "Thank you and you two don't look bad either" Mila giggled.
Bobby and Reggie had come to pick the two girls up, to drive them to the party, and as you could imagine, were they both dressed as pirates, one more silly than the other.
"Are all of you pirates?" Asked Aera as she put on her coat and gave Mila hers. "No Luke is the Joker and Alex is Cher from Clueless" Aera and Mila's eyes widened before they both laughed. "He is what?" Asked Mila, not sure if she heard correctly.
Bobby sighed as he nodded slowly: "You know what we said, now let's go"
The whole car ride there, the music was playing top 100 as the California night weather, made them all get ready for the party. Caroline's house was filled, red plastic cups were in the front yard and there were decorations in every corner outside and inside.
The music was blasting and Mila held Reggie's hand tight as they entered. A smiling face of Caroline dressed for the first time unsexy as Ross, made Mila smile. She never thought Aera could be so cheesy but there she and her girlfriend were dressed as that year's tv couple.
"Please don't leave my sight" Mila whispered to Reggie who nodded, holding her hand. Aera and Caroline went to the beer pong table, trying to win over Daliah and Oliver, which they obviously wouldn't.
"Let's get something to drink shall we?" Bobby asked as he smiled to his two friends, Mila nodded as they went to the kitchen mixing drinks. Memories from the first party of the year repeated in Mila's head, how she was all alone until Oliver came and helped her, but now she was with two friends.
Who was laughing and smiling as they shared drinks, trying to find one that Mila would like. Just a couple of months ago, Bobby stole her drink and got a bloody lip, and Mila's heart belonged to Oliver and not ....
There he was... standing at a corner looking at them as his smile slowly faded, watching Bobby and Mila mix drinks. She looked gorgeous, like something out of a movie, his Joker make-up, made him almost unrecognizable.
Of course that was until their eyes met, like a spark in his heart, the tension in the room was high as he slowly walked towards them. "Hi" He said in a low voice, the three of them smiled at him as they gave him one of the awful drinks they had made.
"Hey," Bobby said as he looked at Mila who's eyes were now focused on her drink, Luke was about to ask her something when Mila spoke up. "I wanna dance Reggie dance with me" She took his hand and soon after they were standing in the living room dancing, feeling the music in their hearts as they let the rhythm take them.
Luke sighed as he leaned back his head: "When will she stop ignoring me?" Luke asked almost giving up before Bobby sighed and jumped up on the counter.
"Luke, Mila is one of the most wonderful people I have met and she is absolutely crazy about you... she just.. she is scared.. that you will break her heart, and honestly I understand her, I saw how you treated Alex in the breakup. Luke, listen you are my best friend, you're a good guy, but if you let that girl slip from your fingers, you're a bigger idiot than I thought"
The party continued and after a couple of hours, Luke was standing in the kitchen, trying to take off his makeup when Mila.... pushed by the others walked up to him.
"Need a hand?" She asked, causing Luke to look up, his makeup was nowhere near gone and the green in his hair looked more sticky than ever.
Luke nodded slowly, not knowing exactly what to say or do as Mila took his hand and followed him to the bathroom, Luke didn't say anything as Mila began washing his green hair with water and shampoo, the bathtub becoming green as she did so.
".... I never meant to ignore you" Mila said as she washed his hair, feeling her fingers running through his hair, making her realize how soft it was, and made Luke have goosebumps down his spine.
"It's okay Millianna '' He answered with a soft smile, he really did think she hated him, that he had ruined their friendship.
Mila finished washing his hair, taking a towel, and began drying his hair which caused them both to laugh.
"I wasn't mad, I just had a lot to think about" Mila answered as she moved the towel, making him able to see into her beautiful eyes, he smiled softly as his heartbeat rapidly beat in his chest.
Of course, all she saw was the red lipstick and the white face paint, she made the towel wet and slowly began removing the face paint from his face.
"Why the Joker anyway? Why couldn't you be someone not related to crime?" Mila giggled as she shook her head, yet her eyes met him as she removed his makeup, looking into his eyes, her heartbeat went faster and faster.
"You know I am a little crazy like him," He said as he winked down to her, causing her to have a red tint, luckily not visible by her cupid make-up.
"You are crazy indeed" She giggled as she removed the last bit of his makeup, now able to see his face she couldn't help but smile and neither could he, the whole night his eyes had been on her, how her smile had flashed to someone else.
"Millianna?" He whispered as he was about to say it, he was about to ask her to be his, he was about to confess, tell her that he would never break her heart, however, he was interrupted by the door opening and a very drunk Aera walking in.
"Oh sorry...." Aera said as her eyes widened, seeing how close the two stood, Mila hadn't even noticed that her hand had been placed on Luke's chest, as she had tiptoed to clean his face. When Aera walked in, Mila then took a step away from him.
"Yes?" Mila asked as she looked at her friend, trying to ignore the butterflies she was feeling, Aera looked at Luke and then back at Mila.
"The beer pong table is ready" And with that, she left the two alone, yet as Luke was about to say something, Mila took a deep breath throwing the towel in the laundry bin. "Let's get drunk shall we?" Mila said.
As Mila left the bathroom, Luke sighed, shaking his head, he never thought he would hear those words from her mouth, yet he couldn't help but smile. He however knew at that moment he needed to do something.
His hand grabbed her wrist making her face him, the dim light in the hallway and the sound of the party going downstairs, wasn't romantic in any way. But as Mila looked into Luke's eyes, both of them were rather in shock by this sudden act.
"I know you said I shouldn't... but... May I kiss you?" Luke asked, Mila bit her lip as she couldn't help but smile, not even replying, she put her hand on his neck, tiptoeing and pulling him down, kissing his lips soft and gently.
It was as time stopped as their lips met, but the butterflies only intensified. Both of their heart's pounding.
Mila could feel she was scared, yet she could only focus on how soft he felt against her. Honestly, if she woke up in her bed, she would believe she was dreaming at that moment, the love and tension as his fingers curled around hers.
Luke peeked every time he had to get air, making sure this wasn't a part of his rapid imagination, but no indeed, he was kissing the girl of his dreams.
