This doesnt actually have a ton of Logicality, but read it if you want.
Logan and Patton walked to the stairs, where the debate club was always hosted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Thursdays (which was this day), they drew from a member prompt and debated on that. Could be anonymous, but often wasn’t, especially on controversial subjects.
“My back hurts,” Patton muttered.
“Would you like to change out of your binder? You’re keeping a bra in your locker like we’ve discussed, right?” Logan asked. Patton smiled.
Patton, Logan, and Patton’s parents discussed precautions for binding, namely setting a timer that he’d start when he put it on, and putting a sports bra and baggy shirt in his locker.
“No, it should be fine. I’ll change when I get home though, I promise,” Patton said.
“Thank you, Star,” He said. Logan was probably the most cautious for Patton out of everyone he knew. Sure, his friends were also very caring, but Logan wanted him to feel comfortable, safe and be able to get surgery. And his parents cared too, but they were still new to the whole LGBTQ+ thing.
They made it halfway up the first flight of stairs when Patton was out of breath.
“Would you like me to carry you?” Logan asked, hiding his smile.
“Yes, moonlight,” Patton said with a smile. Logan picked up Patton, carrying him up the rest of the way. He put Patton back on the floor outside the English Classroom. They entered, hand in hand.
“Hey, Logan, hey Patton. What’s up?” Carson asked. Carson was on the debate team too. He talked to Patton and Logan quite a bit, but neither Patton nor Logan considered him anything close to a friend.
See, most people didn’t even know that Patton was trans. He usually talked to teachers before the first day of school and had them change his name to Patton, calling it during attendance and seat placements.
Carson was one of those people.
Most people didn’t know that Logan and Patton were gay for each other either. They were actually pretty obvious about their relationship, holding hands, never not eating lunch together (even when Patton got lunch detention for a late assignment), and Patton often sitting on Logan’s lap. But most cishet people at their school were kind of idiots. No offense to the rare cishet that may read this.
“We’ve arrived here, just like you,” Patton said. “That’s about it.”
“Hey,” The instructor said. The instructor was an English teacher, Ms Flores. She was basically the coach, but no one called her that. “Today, we’ll be drawing from the box, so Red!” The young man, Red, basically appeared at her side. “I summon the box!” She said dramatically. Everyone laughed and Red put the box in her hand.
“Thank you,” She said, “Return to your seat.” Red did so. She took off the lid of the decorated shoe box and pulled out one of the sticky notes. “This is from Carson,” She said before unfolding it. “Should trans males be allowed to use the boy’s room, and vice versa,” She said, her voice slowing down in unease after reading it. She fidgeted with her long hair.
“Okay, uh, I’ll select pros and con debaters,” She said, anxious. She pointed at Carson, “Con,” She said. Carson’s eyes widened.
“What? No, no, no, I’m not debating on the side that says trans girls are allowed in the boys room,” He said.
“That… you aren’t,” She said. Patton snickered, realising that Carson didn’t know what he was saying.
“Exactly, because I’m debating pro,” He said. Patton continued to laugh. “What is so funny, Hart?” He asked coldly.
“A trans girl is AMAB…” He started, “And you think she’s AFAB,” He managed to squeak through.”
“I have no idea what those mean,” He said.
“Carson, I assigned you to con, you’re going to do con,” Ms Flores said sternly. “Logan, Patton, you are also con,” She said. Logan sighed in relief.
“Wait, you usually alternate between pro and con. Why aren’t you?” Carson asked.
“Because I’m not, now please take your seat, Mr Bails.” Carson rolled his eyes and sat back down.
After everyone else was assigned, they separated to the different sides of the room
“Now, this will work the same as usual, we’ll go down the line,” She said. “Madi, you begin, Logan will be next,” She said.
“Of course,” She said cheerfully. “The idea of letting a trans male into the girls room is ridiculous,” She started. Patton started laughing again (along with a few other students)
“Madi. A trans male is someone who is assigned female at birth. Without undergoing surgery or hormone therapy, he would have breasts, just like you,” She said. Patton stopped laughing and Logan squeezed his hand.
“Right, whatever. Letting a boy into our bathroom is ridiculous! And only 1 in 7 rape victems report it! In a high school, especially, it’s terrible to give a ‘trans female,’ the opportunity to harass someone of the opposite sex,” She said, using air quotes around ‘trans female.’ Logan could feel his blood run cold in anger.
“Are you implying that a trans female would not be valid as a female? Saying that you are the opposite sex of a trans female, you would be incorrect,” He said, not waiting for permission to speak.
“That’s just a label, he’s still a man,” Carson said.
“I’m considering abandoning my pacifist lifestyle,” Logan said. Patton laughed a bit, knowing that it was mostly a joke.
“Don’t be silly, Logan. You shouldn’t risk yourself because they’re being uninformed bigots,” He said. Most people’s eyes widened, thinking it was a curse word. It isn’t, by the way. “Any trans female who wants to use their bathroom is totally valid. If they’re in that bathroom, they probably also have an immense amount of anxiety, and just want to be left alone.”
“The same thing would go to any trans male in the male labeled bathroom,” Logan said. “They’re more concerned with feeling safe emotionally.”
“I honestly think the better question is why aren’t bathrooms gendernutral. It doesn’t matter, the only difference is urinals, which isn’t even in all boys bathrooms, and pad/tampon dispensers, which should be in both, quite frankly,” Patton said. “Gender is a spectrum, and the idea of strictly male or female bathrooms are completely disregarding non-binary people.”
“Wonderful thinking, Patton. I agree,” Ms Flores said. Another girl on the pro side stepped forward.
“Ms Flores, please think this through! Would you put yourself in danger by going to the boys room?” She asked in her annoying, high pitched name.
“Of course not, but I’m not trans, I don’t use public restrooms and I would like to think that no one should be in danger by merely using the bathroom,” She said.
“I’d be uncomfortable with a ‘trans male,’ aka, a girl, using the boys room,” Carson said.
“That doesn’t stop you from talking to me for an annoying amount of time while in the bathroom! Calling me a pansy for using a stall, even though I can’t use a urinal! Screw you, and all your bigotry, you are so mind numbingly uninformed as to say that you don’t want a trans male using the bathroom, while a trans male is in your freaking presence! A trans male that you’ve never seemed to have a problem with before!” Patton yelled, snapping.
“What on earth are you talking about--” Carson started.
“Me! I’m talking about me, you absolute idiot!” Patton said. He covered his mouth, realising how much he had said. Coming out, insulting someone.
“Patton, are you alright?” Logan asked, seeing the crushed look on his face.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Carson asked again, shoving Patton in the chest. Patton let out a loud squeak before crying and breaking down in Logan’s arms.
“Carson, leave the room, immediately,” Ms Flores said.
“Not until I get answers,” He said. Logan sighed. He picked up Patton and set him on the desk in front of him.
“You want answers, alright,” He started. “You’ll get your answers. You’ve directly insulted my boyfriend, a trans male who has tried very hard to only be seen as a boy because of people like you. Patton made the interesting point that you’ve shared a bathroom with him, again, a trans male, without having any issue,” He said. “And you just shoved him. In the chest. He’s been binding today and he’s in pain. You are so lucky that he’s made me swear off hurting people, because if not, you’d never be able to walk again.”
“Logan,” Patton sniffled, “It’s okay, i-it’s my fault for not coming out,” He said.
“Star, you must stop blaming yourself for other people being rude. It isn’t your fault. You were trying to stay safe,” Logan said. He kissed Patton’s nose. “You’re just as valid as everyone else, you shouldn’t need to come out to be perceived as you are.”
“My ribs hurt,” Patton muttered.
“You should… change,” Logan said.
“Yes! You should change!” Carson said. “A delusional girl thinking she’s a boy. A boy thinking he’s gay, when he’s just straight for a girl. You two need to be informed.”
“Patton, my love,” Logan said tensely.
“Yes, Logan, my darling,” Patton said, taking Logan’s hand. They were always this lovey-dovey, just usually not in front of other people.
“May I hurt him?” Logan asked.
“Not in my presence, but do what you wish. I think he deserves it,” He said. He kissed Logan’s cheek. “I need to, uh…”
“Of course. I’ll be waiting for you,” He said in a sweet voice.
“I’ll be back,” Patton said. They said this stuff often when at their homes. Patton gently kissed Logan’s lips before leaving the room.
“What the living fuck just happened,” Carson asked.
“Carson, hallway, now,” Ms Flores said. “Logan, if you have a particular wish to answer any questions, feel free to join him, but you’re also welcome to stay in here and move on with us,” She said.
“I’d rather join Carson in the hallway. Enter with Patton again.” Ms Flores nodded. Carson rolled his eyes and left the room, Logan following.
“Since when are you gay?” Carson asked when they got out of the classroom.
“Since when have I known I’m a homosexual or how long have I been attracted to Patton, or how long have I been in a relationship with Patton?” Logan asked. “They have different answers.”
“All of the above,” Carson said.
“I’ve known I’m homosexual for 4 years, been attracted to Patton for 4 years, and I’ve been dating Patton for 2 years,” Logan said. “Next question.”
“What’s her real name?” He asked.
“I don’t know who you’re referring to. There is not a person who uses she/her pronouns in this conversation,” Logan said. Carson rolled his eyes.
“The girl you call Patton.”
“Patton Morris Hart,” Logan said.
“No, like, her legal name.”
“That is none of your business,” Logan said.
“I need to know how to address her.”
“Patton. You address him as Patton. His name,” Logan said firmly. Carson rolled his eyes. Patton approached them. “Hello, darling, I missed you,” Logan said, kissing Patton’s cheek. Patton giggled.
For the record, they’re not codependent. They just love each other very much and feel safer when the other is around. They can live without each other, but they don’t want to.
“I missed you too,” He said. “My locker was too far,” He said, holding up his binder. “Yours is closer, can I put it in there?”
“Of course. You know the code,” Logan said. Patton smiled, kissed Logan’s cheek and skipped down the hall, stopping a few yards away.
“Damn,” Carson said.
“What?” Logan asked.
“I’ll show you when he gets back,” He said.
Patton got back and took Logan’s hand, cuddling into Logan’s shoulder, his eyes shut, relaxed, feeling safe with Logan.
“How’d you score that?” Carson asked, pointing towards Patton’s chest. Patton’s eyes opened.
“I should not be surprised that you’re misogynistic as well. And yet…” Logan said.
“I…” Patton said. He lost control of himself. He begged himself not to do it.
He slapped Carson in the face. Logan’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Oh my god…” Patton muttered. “I…”
“He deserved it,” Logan said.
“Well, yeah, but I didn’t need to,” Patton said.
“You… what the hell,” Carson said.
“I’m sorry. Well, no. But you don’t treat people that way, whether they identify as a woman or not. You should not treat anyone that way. Everyone is valid, whether LGBTQIA+ or cishet. And everyone deserves respect. LGBTQIA+ or not,” He said. “The only people who don’t deserve respect are people like you-- people who make other people feel invalid or hurt in any way. And MAPs.” Logan nodded.
“Patton, my love, would you like to leave?” Logan asked kindly.
“Yes. Please.”
“Patton, heard you slapped Carson in the face,” Carter (a friend of Carson’s) said. Patton tensed up and Logan clutched his hand.
“Yeah.”
“Nice,” Kyle said, another friend of Carson’s.
“What?” Patton asked.
“He deserved it,” Kyle said.
“I thought you guys were friends,” Patton said. Carter nodded.
“Were. A very important word.”
“Yeah. On Tuesday, Carter came out as bi, I came out as gay, and he cursed us out. The only reason we haven’t ripped him a new one is because we’ve been avoiding him,” Kyle said.
“You two are…”
“LGBT, yes. For each other a lot,” Carter said, blushing slightly.
“Congratulations,” Patton said. Kyle nodded in thanks.
“Thanks. And hey, if he messes with you, especially about the bathroom thing, just come to us, we’ll fuck him up,” He said.
“Yeah, we know you’re a pacifist,” Carter said.
“Thanks?” Patton said, utterly confused.
“Of course,” Kyle said before they walked off, hand in hand.
“I was not expecting that,” Patton said.
“Really?” I was,” Logan said. Patton giggled. “I think it’s good to remember, that you have people to go to,” He said. Patton nodded. “Especially me.”
“I know I can always go to you,” Patton said. Logan smiled as Patton stood on his tiptoes to kiss Logan softly.
Bonus (pissing off the bigots)
“Hey, Ms Flores,” Patton greeted cheerfully.
“Hello, Patton,” She said with a big smile on her face.
“You seem very happy, did something happen?” Patton asked. Ms Flores laughed.
“My girlfriend proposed. Now she’s my fiance,” She said.
“Oh my goodness, congratulations!” He said.
“Indeed,” Logan said.
“Tell Ramona I say congrats,” Patton said with a smile.
“Of course!” She said. “Alright everyone, today--”
“Wait, wait, go back,” Carson said. “Girlfriend?”
“Oh, yeah. My girlfriend, Ramona. Well, fiance, I mean,” She said happily, holding up her hand. It had a small diamond between 2 blue topaz, on a silver band. They couldn’t see it, but on the inside of the band, it said ‘fuck society, I love you.’
“You’re gay?” Carson asked. Ms Flores looked around the classroom, and down at her attire (a flannel over a Heathers shirt, jeans and combat boots)
“Uh… yep.”
