"Oikawa, I love you."
Oikawa tripped. "What was that, Iwa-chan? Sorry I think I misheard you."
"Okay. I said," Hajime stepped closer and placed his hands on Tooru's cheeks. "Oikawa, I love you."
Oikawa flushed a little, feeling his cheeks warm slightly and wondering how his boyfriend wasn't at all embarrassed. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Should I say it again? Oikawa, I love you."
"I, well I love you too, Iwa-chan. I just wasn't expecting this."
Hajime laid his head down on his boyfriend's shoulder. "That's fine. I just wanted to make sure you know I love you."
"Right."
Not that Oikawa was complaining, but he had never seen his boyfriend being so straightforwardly affectionate to him. Normally, Iwaizumi would be a big tsundere and never be so blunt about it, but he still showed affection in his own tsundere ways.
"Iwa-chan, is something wrong?"
"Nothings wrong when you're right here with me."
Oikawa gasped. That was smooth; but so, so out of character. "You sure, Iwa-chan?"
"Of course, darling."
Tooru folded his arms around his boyfriend. "Aw, you're so cute Iwa-chan!"
"Not as cute as you."
"Guys can you shut up and eat lunch already?"
Oikawa glared at Hanamaki, who was snickering on the other side of the table with Mattsun. He opened his mouth to yell at them, but before he could Hajime poked his side.
"Shut up, Makki! You're just jealous that Mattsun refuses to even hold your hand in public."
"I do not!"
Makki lightly punched him in the side. "You do too! Anyways, I am not jealous of whatever the vanilla mint fudge you guys are doing right now. I'm just disgusted and I think I might have a cavity just by looking at you two."
"I hope you do get one! Let's just eat already before the flies consume our food."
"You're right. Oikawa, darling, I brought you milk bread today."
Everyone started at Hajime in shock. "You brought your boyfriend food? Since when did you ever do that, Iwa-chan?"
"Shut the pretty pumpkin pie up, and don't call me that."
"Why~? Is it only reserved for your precious Trashykawa?"
"No. It's reserved strictly for my precious babykawa."
They continued to bicker whilst Oikawa started to malfunction from all of the cuteness of his precious Iwa-chan.
"Look! You broke him, good job!"
Iwaizumi hugged him and Oikawa melted. "You shouldn't be happy about that, Makki. He's a joy to be around."
"You're saying it's not a good thing that he isn't fully functioning, yet you're continuing to fry his brain."
Iwaizumi huffed and squeezed tighter, although paying mind to the very clear fact that he was very muscular and would cut Oikawa's air off if he was too harsh. "'Kawa, baby, eat please."
Oikawa nodded and pulled apart a piece of the mini loaf. "Iwa-chan, this is.. Did you make this?"
"I did. I hope it's good."
New years happened in Oikawa's eyes, and he shoved another piece into his mouth, chewing then talking. "It's so good, thank you Iwa-chan!"
"You're welcome. I'm glad you like it."
Oikawa's smile melted Hajime's heart and he fell in love all over again. He moved his hand from his boyfriend's waist to his cheeks once again. "You're really pretty."
Oikawa choked.
"Oh Asahi! Mattsun, buttercream - pass him the water bottle over there!"
Oikawa took large sips until he could breathe properly. "You can't just say stuff like that!"
"Why not? You're my boyfriend, right? So I should be allowed to."
Oikawa blushed and lightly smacked his boyfriend's arm.
"Look who's being the tsundere now, Oikawa. Iwaizumi got more guts than you."
"Shut up!"
Per usual, after lunch they separated to go to their different classes, with Oikawa walking off towards physics with Mattsun, Makki and Iwaizumi heading the opposite direction for english. Classes drawled on, boring as usual until practice came, and the four third years got to be together again.
"Hey guys! How was science?"
"Boring, as usual. Iwaizumi took crazy detailed notes, I'm going to copy them, same old same old."
"Pretty much. How was, uh? English?"
"You remembered!"
"Yep. Anyways how was it?"
Oikawa stumbled and thought for a bit. Generally, nobody asked him how anything went so he didn't really know what to say but didn't want to disappoint either.
"There was an unicorn."
Mattsun sighed. "No, there was an acronym challenge and some kid used the word unicorn."
"That makes a little more sense."
"Yeah. You'd never guess what Oikawa's word was."
"Iwa-chan."
"Yep."
"Shut up, you two! Mattsun's word was paradichlorobenzene, at least mine was something cool!"
"Paradichlorobenzene is cool! It's the stuff in mothballs and garbage deodorants."
"That's so lame though!"
"No it isn't! See, watch. For what is the reason for which we all sing?"
Makki chimed in, "It's paradichlorobenzene!"
"Without meaning or understanding, paradichlorobenzene!"
"You guys are weird. Anyways, 'Kawa baby, come here for a minute."
Oikawa nodded and ran over to his boyfriend. "What's up, Iwa-chan?"
He was given a quick kiss on the nose, and a warm hug.
"Oikawa, I love you."
The entirety of Seijoh's volleyball team watched their captain immediately turn pink and cover his face. It wasn't a regular occasion, sure, but it certainly brought a smile to their faces.
"Gonna say it back, 'Kawa?"
"Of course - I love you too, Iwa-chan! Sorry I was just surprised."
Practice was rather normal - minus the random kisses Iwaizumi would give Oikawa, that is. Not that the team was complaining though, it made everyone happy to see Oikawa so happy, genuine smiles every interaction.
The mood was much lighter, even Kyotani seemed calmer than usual Kunimi made a few snarky remarks. Matsukawa and Hanamaki only shared a few comments - it might be their thing, but only an awful person would take this moment away from Oikawa.
His eyes sparkled everytime and he gave the purest smile - unknowingly sending his boyfriend even father into a pit of absolute adoration.
"So, Iwaizumi. What's up with you today?"
"What?"
"I mean, what happened at lunch today?"
Iwaizumi gave him a concerned stare. "We ate lunch. Are you sure you're doing okay?"
"Yeah, but the Oikawa stuff?"
"What about him?"
"Cut the act, Iwaizumi. You never act like that towards him, or anybody for the matter."
"Well," Iwaizumi stopped for a minute to sigh and think through his explanation. "I kinda had a dream a few nights ago that he left me because I didn't treat him right. I guess I just realized how lucky I am to have him, and y'know.. Decided he's more important than my pride."
"Wow... that was.... Really deep. But yes."
Makki ruffled his hair. "You're short so I can do this. Anyways, I'm sure he really appreciates it. He gets lonely and sad easily, and I can personally say he deserves the world - as can the rest of our team. We all love him, so you better treat him right."
"Are you trying to steal my boyfriend or something?"
"No, Mattsun's better anyways. But I appreciate him greatly as a friend."
"I know. And I appreciate him greatly as a friend and as a boyfriend, I really do. I'm just learning how to show it."
"Well you're doing pretty well I'd say, but that was very uh, how do I say this? You made Oikawa explode."
"I saw that. It was cute, wasn't it?"
"Dude you're whipped."
"Shut up! It's not my fault I've got the cutest boyfriend.
"Yes, it is. And he isn't the cutest! He's just really cute, you just find him extra cute"
"He was the one who asked me out!"
"Yeah, but you said yes."
"That wasn't a choice. I would have made him sad."
"That's something someone totally in love with Oikawa would say."
"Well maybe that's what I am, stupid."
Makki smiled and punched Iwaizumi's arm. "We been knew. It was obvious before, now it's just extra evident."
"That's kind of the whole point. Wait, hold on - practice should end in a minute."
"Huh? Oh, you're right. I'd go tell your boyfriend if I were you, otherwise he'll keep us until 5."
"Points have been made. See you tomorrow, loser."
"It wouldn't kill you to drop the nicknames for the rest of us too, you know."
"Nah, stupid."
Makki glared daggers at his friend while he ran off towards the captain. He smiled, too, however - only after his boyfriend snuck up behind him and wrapped his arms around his neck.
"They're made for each other."
"They kinda are. I don't know if I've ever seen soulmates written so clearly before."
"It is that way, isn't it? I think they were given as a gift to each other."
Makki nodded and smiled, leaning further into his boyfriend's loose grip.
"Today is a good day."
On the other side of the quart, Iwaizumi had latched himself onto Oikawa, arms draped around his waist and head set on his shoulder while he had a conversation with the first years.
"Thank you, Kindaichi-chan, Kunimi-chan. You're dismissed, and have fun on your date."
"Thank you Oikawa-san!"
"Thanks."
Oikawa smiled as the two walked off, turning to his boyfriend who had latched himself onto him minutes prior.
"Hey Iwa-chan, you ready to go? I have that Godzilla movie."
"Tooru, we agreed on an alien documentary tonight."
"I remember no such agreement!"
"Shut up, and let's watch what you want to watch."
"No! You've been nice to me all day, I think you should get to have your favorite movie."
Iwaizumi frowned and hugged Oikawa closer to him. "Treating you like the beautiful being you are shouldn't be considered extra nice. I was just being extra mean before."
"Oh, Hajime, how I adore you. Let's watch both, and we can even grab some tofu on the way home."
"Okay. Don't expect me to be fully functional tomorrow then, you know I need lots of sleep."
Oikawa laughed. "I know, I know. But it's also a weekend, so we can sleep in as long as we want to."
Hajime's arms felt like home; be it the warmth, the smell of cinnamon, the overall existence of his boyfriend - something about it Oikawa's heart beat in a special way he oh so adored.
Iwaizumi smiled at his boyfriend's pleasant expression and turned his boyfriend around, kissing his lips quickly before hugging him again. "Right. Let's go, I want a piggyback ride."
"Really?!"

"No! You stay here and cuddle me until I'm ready to get up. It's only 2:30!"
"In the afternoon!"
"Stay."
