As I sat beneath the Cypress,
A raven passed me by.
She asked," Why live in a world so cruel,
When in the end you'll just die?"
"They're both two sides,
Of the same coin you see."
Was what I had replied,
As she sat by and stared at me.
The raven cocked her head.
She held doubt in her eyes.
"What do you see in this world of dread?
Why do you love a place of lies?"
"I love the flowers that bloom without fail.
I love the sun that shines.
I love the rain, snow and hail.
I love the creepers and vines.
I love the laughs of the young and old.
I love the wisdom some choose to share.
I love the many cultures, brilliant and bold.
I love this country fair.
I love the smiles we share with others.
I love the tears we shed.
I love the way we're all in this together.
I love the myriad colors made by blue, yellow and red.
I love my friends that stand beside me.
I love my family with all my heart.
I love the people that guide me.
I love this world too much to part. "
The Cypress danced in the zephyr.
The Raven nestled in my hair.
Silently, I preened her feathers,
As at the stars we stared.
