Cloudkit clambered onto a rock, his pale fur blowing in the chilly leaffall wind; looking down slightly at the camp he felt a flicker of pride, proud that he had been born in such a strong clan. Trotting over to his denmates, who were playing mossball, he called "have you seen whitekit" daisykit looked up just as finchkit aimed the mossball at her head; "he's probably with clovernight" she meowed before chasing finchkit, honeykit joining, the game forgotten. Cloudkit rolled his eyes, ever since he and whitekit had discovered clovernights den of berries, roots and leaves whitekit always seemed to be with clovernight or pacing in the nursery, muttering herb names.
Cloudkit and Whitekit bounded after Rootclaw, we can finally try prey cloudkit purred to himself. Their mother dug through the fresh-kill pile before drawing out a chaffinch; "small bites only" warned Rootclaw, her kits nodded happily and tried the bird. Flavour warmed cloudkits mouth as he chewed the tender meat, glancing at whitekit he saw the same expression in his face; They ate until they could no longer bear to nibble it, and Rootclaw ate the rest. "Would you believe it!" Purred Voleleap "our kits first prey" the grey tom had arrived from a border patrol as the sun started falling. "Hey Voleleap" called snaketail "can you take frostfall, pounceheart and tigerpaw on a dusk hunting patrol" the dark brown tom twitched his ears towards the three; Voleleap touched his nose to Rootclaws and licked his sons ears "get some rest" he meowed.
Cloudkit wriggled in the nest, before deciding he wasn't going to sleep and scrambled up. He started padding for the den entrance when yowls and strange barks filled the air, then silence, then, racing paw steps.
