Year 2

Dear Aura,

This summer has been free of any entertainment. Mother has kept me studying for our next year and father has been away on business. I feel like his business is more important then his plans with me. This is normal for him but i would be lying if i said i was not looking forward to these plans. The events of this past year with Potter seemed to be unnerving for him. I look forward to hearing about your holiday and hope to see you at the end of the summer.

I read the message over and over petting the head of Flit. This has been my first message back from Draco. Delivered by a rather rude tempered bird that didn't seem to want to wait for a treat or payment. It just left. I quickly grabbed a piece of parchment and my quill. If I don't answer now then Flit will not want to take it. She sometimes has an ill-temper herself. Never to the point where she was aggressive. Just resistant.

My dear Draco,

I'm so sorry your holiday has been ruined. I'm sure your father didn't mean to forget your plans with him. I'm sure he will make up for it. If it makes you feel better i have had a holiday full of studying as well. It will only be a few days until we meet again on Diagon Alley. I look forward to seeing you.

Yours,

I rolled the message carefully before wrapping it in a ribbon. I walked back over to Flit. "Take this to Draco my love. Do not leave until you know he has the message and bite him if he doesn't give you a treat." Flit made a sort of whistling sound grabbing the roll out from between my fingers. I watched her as she flew away from me and out into the woods.

"Are you sure that you are alright going in alone?" My mother asked fluffing my hair so it looked good enough. She was nervous. Always is after last year. It must feel unnerving to know that a student at your child's school had been attacked. By a professor no less. I assured her it was merely rumors and that she had nothing to worry about. Somehow I convinced her to let me travel to Diagon Alley on my own beside Draco. Promised her that I was safe with the Malfoys. Truly dreading meeting Draco's father.

"I will be fine. Going straight to Gringotts." My mother manifested a bundle of Muggle pounds passing it over. In reality, this should last me the entire school year. Something about the exchange rate meaning that my mothers money became astronomical amounts of gold coins and sickles. This time, she asked me to exchange and put some into my own vault. For that, she reached in and gave me another bundle. "Grey would be angry knowing how much money you gave me."

"He will recover and I don't entirely feel comfortable bringing you into their world." My mother had triggered something in my soul over the summer. She has too many issues with the wizarding world. Even tried to convince me to ignore my magic side completely. I spent most of my summer writing to Draco and Padma hoping for responses. Sending Flit only when there was no one who can see her flying. Our last letter was us agreeing to meet each other outside of the wizarding bank. He was coming with his father and I was being invited to spend the last day of the summer with the Malfoy family. They had already sent for my trunks. I made sure that my family was no where in sight when everything was collected by their small house elf. "Are you sure I do not need to meet Draco's family?" I started to panic thinking about my Muggle mother meeting Draco's pure-blood father.

"No. They are a very.." I tried to think of the right word to describe someone who completely despises Muggle-born wizards. "noble family. They are respectable. I promise."

"Respectable magicians." My mother joked.

"Wizards mother." I said to her feeling even more annoyed with her attitude. My mother stopped laughing putting her bag back over her shoulders.

"Make sure to write. I'll be looking for Flit." She leaned over kissing me on the forehead as we got to the brick-wall that lead to Diagon Alley. I lifted my wand tapping on one of the bricks. The bricks creaked before folding onto each other. The brightly lit street appeared slowly. Once it was open I stepped inside looking back briefly to see my mother waving at me. I waved back just in time for the bricks to close back up. I took a deep breath walking down the street towards a large white marble building.

The process of dealing with the goblins was not enjoyable at all and transferring muggle money into a vault does not help either. I counted down the moments when I can finally feel like a wizard again. With the money in a small sack that I kept in my cauldron, I set off towards the bookstore. There was a large crowd outside. Outside were two figures. Very blonde. Draco had gotten slightly taller. Still with his slicked back hair but wearing a gray sweater. Next to him stood a man who could only be his father. Long blonde hair. Serious expression. A cane topped with what looked like a snake head. "Aura." Draco beckoned me over which only brought a smile to my face.

"Draco." My best friend pulled me into a hug. Something that his father did not seem too entertained with. We separated both turning towards his father.

"Aura St.Clair. This is my father, Lucius Malfoy." Draco kept his head down while doing it. I stood up straight extending my hand.

"It's truly a pleasure, Mr. Malfoy. I've heard only the best about your family." Lucius gave no impression of whether he approved of me or not until he grasped my hand with a leather bound embrace.

"Ms. St.Clair." From the look on Draco's face, I seemed to have won this battle against Lucius Malfoy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"My mother is much easier." Draco whispered to me as we walked through an arched gate sandwiched between two halves of a hedge maze. The estate was gigantic but I wasn't fazed at all. My home was of similar size. Enough so, if I wished to, I can be separated from the crowds of people my mother brought over for tea and a cigarette on the terrace.
"Your father was not difficult." He was in fact very difficult. Passing judgment's on Potter and the Weasleys when we came across them. Mrs. Weasley is quick on her feet though. Moving her children out of the situation as her husband tried to act tough. Draco looked at me astounded as we entered into the front hall of the estate. Lucius removed his coat throwing it towards a small entity in the darkness. Draco did the same and I realized that the same small elf that had collected my bags was struggling with their coats. Dobby I believe.
"He could take your books and cauldron upstairs." Draco said surprised.
"I prefer to keep my belongings to myself when in new places." Draco seemed to understand as we followed his father in the grand foyer.
"Narcissa." Lucius announced through the house. I heard the sound of heels hitting the marble ground rapidly before a woman with half pale/ half black hair appeared at the top of the grand staircase.
"Welcome." She announced descending the steps, walking past her husband and to Draco and I. "You must be Aura. Draco told me about you." She said in a smooth voice grabbing my upper arms lightly.
"Mum." Draco said thorough his teeth. His mother rolled her eyes at him.
"Nice to meet you Mrs. Malfoy." I ignored Draco completely looking at this woman. She gave me the feeling of comfort that I got the moment I met Draco. The opposite of his father. A small smile formed at the corner of her mouth as she looked over to Draco.
"Pack the rest of your things Draco. I will show Aura to her bedroom."
"Yes, Mum." Draco muttered looking slightly worried as he left me and walked up the staircase and to the left corridor. He just left me as soon as his mother told him to.
"Follow me dear." Narcissa turned around walking towards the same staircase. I scrambled behind her hoping to god that I will be able to keep up as she walk towards the right corridor and down the hall that had a balcony overlooking the foyer we were just standing in. She came to the end opening the door. "Here you are." I stepped into the large open room. There was a green velvet upholstered bed against the wall and a white vanity with gold leaf attached to it. The window showed the entirety of the gardens. My trunks and Flit's cage were in the corner of the room. Based on the open window, I would guess she went hunting. "I hope you like it." I turned around probably beaming.
"It's beautiful, Mrs. Malfoy."
"Please. Narcissa is fine if we are to continue to be acquainted." I should have felt taking aback by that comment but decided to brush it off. I just nodded and she left with a brief instruction about when we will have dinner. I quickly ran over to the window sticking my head out slightly. I brought my fingers to my mouth letting out a loud whistle. The last thing I needed was for Flit to lose me before we leave to Hogwarts.
"You stayed at Malfoy Manor? Was it insanely large and expensive looking?" Padma asked me sitting across from me on her bed. We had tucked in for the night but we're staying up to tell each other the stories of our summer holiday. She visited her mothers uncles in India. That was her biggest highlight.
"It was similar to my own but darker and smoother."
"Smoother? That's an odd way to describe a house." Luna added not looking up from her quibbler, her fathers magazine.
"My bedroom was velvet on anything that could be upholstered." I may have sounded way too excited. I decided to keep to myself how excited I was that Draco had talked about me to his mother. That is something to keep to myself right now. I also kept to myself how his mother had been shooting glances in my direction that suggested she was studying me. Flashing a sly smile every time I had realized.  Draco and I spent the day in the garden. He was showing me the way to get through the maze without getting lost. Once we had figured it out, we had chased each other through the hedges. Trying our best not to get caught.
"How interesting." Luna added sitting with her back to us messing with some odd contraption her father had probably created. She pulled me out of my trance. I'm not even sure the remark was for me.
"His mother is beautiful. So poised." Padma looked at me with a shocked expression on her face.
"It's almost like you're in love with the family." I grinned.
"All but Lucius." We both laughed. The feeling of the last day of summer melting back into the school year.
