Stay (Wasting Time) - Dave Matthews Band
-----
The pizza got to Mina's house a few minutes before Chibs did. She got one of her favorite movies queued up on the TV. She just puttered around the house while she waited for him to get there.
Chibs pulled up to the house and sat outside. It had been a very long day running all over the place trying to get Venus' son. Jax killed Venus' mother, Gemma attacked Tara which caused her to have a miscarriage, and all he wanted to do was relax and unwind. After taking off his helmet, he ran his fingers through his hair, pushing any stray hairs off his face.
When he stepped onto the porch, he caught a glimpse of Mina walking around picking things up and placing it in a different spot. He laughed and knocked on the door.
She smiled when she heard the knock on the door. Looking in the reflection of the microwave, she made sure her hair and face weren't a mess from running around the house.
Before opening the door, she took a breath and closed her eyes. She opened the door and saw a smiling Chibs on the other side. "Hi," she grinned.
"Hey, darlin'," he sighed. She stepped to the side so he could walk in. "How was school?"
She shrugged, closing the door. "Boring as hell. How was your day?"
"Uneventful," he lied. He couldn't tell her any of the club's business, not yet, anyway. "Nice house," he said, looking around.
"Thanks," she smiled. "You want something to drink?"
He turned to face her. "What'cha got?"
"I've got everything. Pick your poison," she chuckled.
Chibs laughed, then asked, "Ya got beer?" She nodded. "That'll do." She grabbed two beers out of the fridge and opened them. "So, what're we watchin'?"
She took a sip and said, "You ever seen 10 Things I Hate About You ?"
"Do I look like someone who has seen that?" he chuckled. She shrugged and opened the cabinet getting out two plates. "What's it about?"
"You'll have to wait and see," she smirked, opening the lid of the pizza box. After they got their slices, they retreated into the living room. As soon as Mina sat on the couch, her cat jumped up. "Get out of here," she said, shooing the cat away.
Chibs picked her up and put her on the other side of him. "Nah, she's fine." The cat laid down, curling against his leg, and fell asleep.
They watched the movie and ate their pizza. When he finished eating, Chibs put his plate on the coffee table and leaned back on the couch. He put his arm on top of the cushion and laughed at the crude jokes of the movie. She looked up at him, smiling.
"What?" he asked, noticing her staring at him.
She shook her head. "You just have a great laugh."
He chuckled, "Do I?" She chuckled and looked back at the movie.
Chibs leaned over and took her face in his hand. Moving his head closer to hers, she closed her eyes. He kissed her softly, sliding his arm behind her back to pull her closer. Deeping the kiss, he rotated so she was leaning into him. She ran her fingers through his hair as his hands moved down to her waist. He moved his hands under her shirt, slowly lifting it up. Taking her hands out of his hair, she pushed his hands away from her torso. He broke the kiss and kissed her neck, trying again to lift up her shirt.
"Chibs?" she whispered.
"Hmm?" he grumbled, his face buried in her neck.
She sighed, "Can we...can we slow down a little?"
He looked up at her. " 'Course, love." He kissed her forehead and then pulled Mina over so her head was on his chest. Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, he slid his fingers up and down her arm, barely touching her skin, giving her goosebumps.
They looked back to the movie and sat in each other's arms. Mina felt bad about asking him to stop and slow down but she was glad that he was understanding about it.
As the movie was coming to an end, Mina fell asleep on Chibs' chest. He didn't realize she was sleeping until the credits were rolling. "Love?" he whispered. She didn't respond to him.
Chibs shifted slightly so he could put his arm around her back. Reaching around her body, he put his other arm under her knees. He slid to the edge of the cushion and stood up, holding her against his chest.
As he walked holding her, a wave of memories hit him like a truck. Remembering holding a woman in his arms. She was closer to death than life. Her face and body covered in blood.
He shoved the thoughts of that terrible night to the back of his mind and continued walking.
Walking into the bedroom, the cat walked in front of his feet almost tripping him. He laid Mina down in bed and pulled the blanket over her.
"Good night, darlin'," he said, leaning down to kiss her forehead. His beard tickled her face and she woke up. He already turned his back, beginning to walk out.
"Chibs?" she asked. He spun on his heels. "Stay with me." He chuckled and sat down in the chair next to her bed. She opened one eye and looked at him. "What're you doing?"
He whispered, "Ya just asked me to stay with ya, so that's what I'm doin'."
"You're not going to stay there all night?" she yawned.
"Just get some sleep, love."
Mina smiled at him and closed her eyes. Her breaths swallowed and she let out small snores as she breathed. He chuckled at how cute she was as she slept. Chibs stood up and went into the living room. As he sat down on the couch, her cat jumped up next to him.
"What do'ya want?" he asked the cat, petting her back. He kicked his boots off and laid down on his back. The cat walked the edge of the couch and laid in between his arm and side. "As long as you're comfortable," he chuckled. The cat purred and fell asleep. If only he could sleep.
He couldn't stop thinking about the woman he held all those years ago. The one who laid on the ground in a pool of blood on the road. He tried to stop thinking about it, but he couldn't. She laid on the ground screaming in pain. Running over to her, he took off his scarf and wrapped it tight around her stomach, trying to stop the bleeding. Carrying her to the motorcycle and holding her as tight as he could to the hospital. He didn't even know if she made it.
"God d*mn it," he sighed, shaking his head, trying to stop himself from thinking about the man he left behind. Chibs knew for a fact he didn't survive because; by the time he got back, he was dead.
Sleep wasn't a choice for him. Sitting up on the couch, the cat was annoyed that he moved. Chibs picked up the plates and beer bottles from the coffee table and brought them into the kitchen. He put the pizza in the fridge and washed all of the dishes in the sink. Mina's cat followed him and walked in between his legs. Then, she went to the cabinet and tried to open it with her paw. Looking to see what was inside, Chibs saw it was her food. He grabbed the bag and poured its contents into her bowl. "There ya go, love," he said, petting the cat as she munched.
He took his cut off and draped it over the chair. He didn't even realize he still had it on. Going back into the living room, he laid down, putting his phone on the table beside him.
As soon as he closed his eyes, all he could see was the accident again. The blood, the gut-wrenching scream he heard, the guilt he had of letting the man die.
His phone started to ring. "Aye?" he answered.
"Did I wake you up?" Jax asked.
"No," Chibs groaned, sitting up. "Everythin' alright, brother?"
He sighed, "I don't know, man." He heard Jax sniffle. "My mother killed my unborn child," he sneered. "How could she do that?"
Chibs shook his head. "I dunno, Jackie. I'm sorry."
"Tara made me sign a restraining order, man. Against my mother. And if something happens to me and her, Wendy is taking the boys. Wendy of all people."
"Why her?"
Jax sighed, "I have no idea. Tara thinks she's the only one capable."
Chibs shook his head. "How's she holdin' up?"
"She's not. She's not talking to me. I don't blame her, though. I can't imagine what she's going through."
He walked over to the fridge and got a beer. They talked for a few hours since neither of them could sleep. When they hung up, it was four-thirty in the morning and Chibs was exhausted. He laid down on the couch and the cat jumped up with him.
No longer imagining the accident, he closed his eyes, drifting off into a sound sleep.
Only thirty minutes later, Mina's alarm woke him up.
Opening her eyes, Mina looked at the chair where Chibs once sat. He left, she thought as she rolled over onto her back. She got out of bed and walked into the bathroom. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something on the couch. Someone.
Sticking her head around the wall, she saw Chibs laying, looking up at the ceiling. She smiled and walked over to him, "Did I wake you up?" she whispered.
"No," he sighed, grabbing her hand. "I didn't sleep."
"I can tell," she chuckled, intertwining her fingers with his. "You look like sh*t." Chibs laughed and pulled her down so she was laying on top of him. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her there. "Let me up!" she giggled.
He laughed still holding her. "No, lay with me."
She laid on his stomach, moving up and down as he breathed. He finally fell asleep while she played with his hair. Mina fell asleep soon after that.
Around seven, Chibs' phone started ringing. Mina woke up and shook him. "Chibs," she said. "Hey, your phone is ringing. Chibs." He groaned, still not waking up. She laughed and kissed him. He smiled in the kiss and she broke it.
"What was that for?" he asked.
She chuckled, "Your phone's ringing."
He picked it up and flipped it open. "Aye? Sh*te. Aye, I'll be there in twenty. I said I'll be there!" He closed the phone and sighed, "Sorry, darlin', I gotta go."
"Just stay here," she pleaded, putting her head down on his chest.
"I wish I could." He sat up and she slid onto the couch cushion. "Wanna do something later?" Mina smiled and nodded. He pulled his boots on and stood up. "Good." He leaned down and kissed her forehead. "I'll see ya later, then."
She watched as he put on his leather jacket and then his cut on top. Listening as the Harley pulled away, she flopped onto the couch and turned on the TV.
