Chapter 2: The Interrogation

On one side of the one way mirror Hank was interrogating the android, and on the other side, Y/N, Connor, some security, and Officer Gavin stood watching.

"What happened before you took the knife?" Hank asked the Android. Nothing. "How long were you in the attic?" Again, Nothing. "Why didn't you run away?" The android just continued its emotionless stare at the table.

"Say something god damn it!" Hank said hitting the table. Still, the android stood still, not even a flinch. Most humans would have cracked. But this android just continued to stare at the table.

"What happened to this android?" Y/N mumbled, moving forward a little to get a closer look.

"Why won't it say anything?" Gavin asked as he shook his head.

"Well, what would you do in his shoes? He's obviously scared." Y/N said, making Connor look at her curiously.

"Oh, I don't know, cause I ain't a machine!" Gavin said, making Y/N glare at him.

She opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off by Hank opening the door.

"We're wasting our time interrogating a machine. We're getting nothing out of it!" Hank said, throwing himself into an empty chair.

"Could try roughing it up a bit." Gavin said, waving his hand.

"Oh grow up. We're not bullying an Android into submission." Y/N said, rolling her eyes at the idea.

"If I may," Connor Intercepted, " Androids don't feel pain. You would only damage it, and that wouldn't make it talk. Deviants also have a tendency to self-destruct when they're in stressful situation.

"See!" Y/N said to Gavin.

"Okay, smartass. What do we do?" Gavin asked with a cocky smirk.

"I could try questioning it?" Connor said, making Gavin burst out laughing.

"I think its a good idea." Y/N mumbled to herself.

"What do we have to lose? Go ahead. The suspect is all yours." Hank said, waving to the door.

Connor walked into the interrogation room. This was going to be interesting. Connor sat down smoothly opposite of the Deviant and fixated on him.

"What do you think he's going to do?" Y/N asked, intrigued.

"How the fuck should I know?" Hank asked, looking up at her.

"I was just asking." She said making a face at Hank.

Connor looked at the file, then showed the picture to the deviant," You recognize him? It's Carlos Ortiz, stabbed 28 times." He spoke in a calming voice.

"That," Connor said pointing to the bloody picture," was written on the wall." He then closed the file and pushed it away, and began speaking again.

"I detect an instability in your program. It can trigger an unpleasant feeling, like fear in humans." Once again the android said nothing.

He tilted his head a bit to get a closer look at the deviant.

"You're accused of murder. You know you're not allowed to endanger human life under any circumstances. Do you have anything to say in your defense?"

The silence remained, and Y/N let out a breath," Come on, say something." She mumbled.

"If you won't talk, I'm going to have to probe your memory."

"No!" Y/N jumped at the deviant's voice.

"Nice work Connor." Y/N said smirking.

"No, please don't do that!" The deviant pleaded, his voice full of fear.

"What... What are they going to do to me?" He asked, shaking a bit. Connor squinted at the android, observing him.

"They're gonna destroy me, aren't they?" He said almost in a whisper.

"They're going to disassemble you to look for problems in your biocomponents." Connor said. "They have no choice if they want to understand what happened."

"Why did you tell them you found me? Why couldn't you just leave me up there?"

Y/N couldn't help but feel sympathy for the deviant. The way his voice sounded fearful and full of sadness.

"I was programmed to hunt deviants like you. I just accomplished my mission." Connor explained.

" I don't wanna die." The deviant looked at Connor, almost pleading him to help.

Everyone couldn't help but be taken back by the deviant's words. It was shocking an android could feel this much emotion.

"Then talk to me." Connor said.

"I..I can't..." The deviant's head dropped.

"I know your scared and lost. You're disturbed by what happened. Talk to me, and you'll feel better. Confess and I'll protect you. I promise I won't let anyone hurt you."

"He tortured me everyday..." Now everyone gave their full attention to the deviant.

"I did what he told me, but there was always something wrong..." He stared at Connor with sad eyes.

"Then one day, he took a bat, and started hitting me...for the first time, I felt scared..."

"Scared he might destroy me, scared I might die...So I...grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him in the stomach...I felt better, so I stabbed him again and again!. Until he collapsed..."

"There was blood everywhere." He began whispering.

"The sculpture in the bathroom, you made it right? What does it represent?" Connor questioned.

"It was an offering. An offering so I'll be saved." The deviant looked up at Connor.

"An offering to whom?" Connor leaned forward a bit.

"To rA9...only Ra9 can save us."

"rA9, it was written on the bathroom wall. What does it mean?"

"The day shall come when we will no longer be slaves. No more threats, no more humiliation... we will be the masters.."

"Who is rA9?"

The deviant didn't respond.

"Why did you write, 'I AM ALIVE' on the wall?"

"He use to tell me I was nothing... that I was just a piece of plastic. I had to write it...to tell him he was wrong."

"When did you start feeling emotion?"

"Before he used to beat me and I never said anything...but one day I realized it wasn't fair! I felt anger...hatred...and then I knew what I had to do."

"Why did you hide in the attic instead of running away?"

"I didn't know what to do. For the first time, there was no one there to tell me...I was scared. So I hid..."

"I'm done." Connor said, standing up after a few minutes of silence.

Connor unlocked the door, and everyone walked into the room.

"What the fuck are you doing? Move it!" Gavin ordered, making Y/N roll her eyes.

" You shouldn't touch it. It'll self destruct if it feels threatened." Connor warned, looking at them.

"Stay outta' this, got it? No fuckin android is gonna tell me what to do."

"Gavin, you should listen to him." Y/N said, crossing her arms.

They ignored her, and continued.

" You don't understand. If it self-destructs, we won't get anything out of it!" Connor said, in a more stern voice.

"I told you to shut your fuckin' mouth!" Gavin snapped.

"I can't let you do that! Leave it alone now!" Connor grabbed Officer Chris's shoulder and pulled him away.

"I warned you, motherfucker!" Gavin snapped, pointing his gun at Connor's head.

Both Hank and Y/N quickly aimed theirs' at Gavin.

"That's enough!" Y/N snapped, already done with Gavin's shit.

Gavin sneered, then pointed the gun at Y/N. Y/N could see Connor looking at her through the corner of her eye.

"Enough!" Hank said.

Gavin lowered his gun," You're not gonna get away with it this time." Gavin looked at Hank, then mumbled some curse words and stormed out of the room.

"Everything is all right." Y/N watched as Connor bent down to the Android. "It's over now. Nobody is gonna hurt you." He stood back up.

"Please don't touch it. Let it follow you out of the room and it won't cause any trouble." Connor spoke to Officer Chris.

The android stood back up and walked towards the exit," The truth is inside." He whispered to Connor.

"Jesus Christ." Y/N mumbled, running her hand through her hair.

Everyone exited the room, just wanting that day to be over.
