HER MOTHER, THE WOMAN she never met, the woman she knew nothing about, the woman Master Jose knew. "Just like your mother," Jose's words played in her head like a CD on a loop, never-ending, constant. Hearing Jose's words, she couldn't help but feel worried. She worried because she knew if Jose knew her mother then he knew who she truly was, her real name. There was also a chance that he knew her past, but Elvira knew that even if he didn't, knowing her name was enough. It was a name she buried seven years ago, it was the name of a dead girl.

There was only one person Elvira ever told the story about the dead girl to, and that was Gajeel. After the pair were kicked out of their first guild together, Elvira spilled the beans about her past, and why she was in the forest that day. It was that day that Gajeel too revealed his past, as well as who the person was that Elvira had promised to help him find. That day was a very important day for the pair, as it marked a change in their relationship.

At that point, they began drifting away from that status of traveling buddies, and slowly began building their relationship as friends. Thinking about her past, as well as Gajeel, Elvira couldn't help but wonder where he was, after all, she hadn't seen him since before this showdown had started. She wanted to go look for him, but she knew she couldn't, she had orders from Jose, orders she had to follow. Usually, she wouldn't take Master Jose's orders so seriously, but this time was different, this time the life she spent building the last seven years was at risk.

With Master Jose knowing her mother, knowing her name, all he had to do was speak it and those of her past would come running. He might've not known the true horrors of her past, but he knew enough to bring attention to those she spent the last seven years hiding from. Having the attention of Lahar was one thing, but Elvira knew that unlike him, some wouldn't have let her walk out that day.  After Elvira was given her orders, she activated her magic boots and began making her way outside with the shade demons.

Arriving outside, she quickly took notice of all the Fairy Tail members on the ground. She watched the array of magic that blasted at the shade monsters, all of which her unaffected by the blast. Yet, they kept going, even though their attacks were having little effect. Seeing them not giving up, caused her admiration for them to grow even more than it already had. Even those that didn't seem as powerful as Erza and Natsu kept going, even when they knew they wouldn't be able to keep up forever. However, despite the admiration she began holding for the guild, she wasn't going to let that get in her way.

"Energy Magic," she called, a magic circle appearing in front of her. "Energy Wave."

Elvira watched as a wave of energy was released, it directing at the Fairy Tail mages on the ground. Some of them were able to jump out of the way, but others, however, weren't able to and was knocked down by her magic. After she cast her spell, she gained the attention of all the mages on the ground, all of which looked at her in shock and even fear. They were shocked that they would be fighting an actual mage, but even more shocked that it was one of their S-Class of all people. Their fear came from the uneasiness they felt from her power, them remembering what she had done to Natsu's spell earlier.

"So what she's an S-Class!" a brunette named Cana yelled, seeing her fellow guildmates began to doubt their abilities. "Her rank doesn't mean anything! We can do this!"

          "Yeah!"

Elvira watched as the mages began directing their attacks at her, making her their priority instead of the shade monsters. With her ability to sense magic power, she was able to tell where the spell was coming from as well as how powerful it was. This allowed her to block the spells at ease as well as tell whether or not she needed her shield a time. For spells that were more wide shot, she used her shield, nullifying the attack. For spells that were less widespread and more direct, she dodged them, using her magic boots to her advantage. The mages kept their spells going nonstop for five minutes, and not once were they able to land a single hit. Still, they didn't let that deter them, they weren't going to give up, especially with some of their strongest members fighting for their lives in the headquarters.

"I don't get it," a pompadour man by the name of Wakaba says. "Isn't she an S-Class? Why are her spells so weak."

"Don't complain," a dark-blue haired man by the name of Macao replies.

"He's right though," the black-haired sharpshooter Alzack comments. "There's a reason why she's an S-Class Mage, yet her magic has yet to prove her rank."

"That's because she's holding back," Cana reveals. "She's not using her magic to its full capability."

          "Well, why not?" Macao asks.

"I don't know," Cana admits, "but what matters is that we need to take her down. We can't let Phantom win."

          "Yeah."

During her battle alongside the shade monsters, Elvira only used to spells, her energy blast, and her energy wave. She used those two spells not only because it caused less damage, but she used it as it took less magic power from her. When it came to her magic boots, she had to root her own power in them to keep them working, which meant if she used too much magic power with her attacks, the magic keeping her afloat will begin to weaken. Not to mention, her ability to sense magical energy would be weakened if her overall magic power was weakened.

Of course, she knew she could've ended the fight with one single spell, but she didn't want to hurt the Fairy Tail mages too much, so she avoided it. As much as it sucked to take the long route, if it kept people alive, and lessen the damage, it was worth it. The battle between Elvira and the mages on the ground level kept going for another five more minutes before it was interrupted. First, all Elvira noticed was all the mages on the ground had stopped their attacks and were frozen.

Next, in the corner of her eye, Elvira saw a bright light, coming from the direction of headquarters. Turning her attention away from the Fairy Tail mages, she looked over towards headquarters and saw that the magic circle was glowing, meaning it was completed. This surprised Elvira as the last time she looked at it, was it moving extremely slow. The completion of the magic circle meant that either Fairy Tail had failed to take down the remaining three members of the Element Four, or somebody had increased their power, causing the spell to be sped out.

As much as Elvira wanted to think about what went down in headquarters between Fairy Tail and the remaining members of the Element Four, she couldn't. The spell was about to activate and she was right in the middle of it. Deciding it was time to move, she then began flying out of the aim of fire and back towards headquarters. However, as she did so, she began to hear cries and shouts of confusion. Turning around, beyond the Fairy Tail mages, she saw civilians, all coming out of their houses, all confused by the bright light. Her eyes drifted to every civilian, the young and the old.

Elvira always knew that the spell was going to go beyond just Fairy Tail, but she always chose to ignore it, seeing their faces, seeing the confused faces of children that had no idea what was happening caused a pain in her heart. At that moment, Elvira turned away from the headquarters and began thinking with her heart, instead of her brain. Flying back to the Fairy Tail mages, she dropped down in front of them, turned towards the Phantom Lord headquarters, towards the spell. Seeing her, the Fairy Tail mages looked at her in confusion, yet none of them attacked her or even neared her. Sensing them looking at her, she ignored it, focusing her power on what she needed to do.

"What do you think you're doing?" Cana asked.

"Nothing can stop abyss break," Elvira says, ignoring her question. "Once the spell is cast, it'll wipe out everything and everyone in its path."

"That doesn't answer my question," Cana replies.

"Energy Magic," she called, pointing her hands out towards the giant magic circle. "Energy Layered Sheild!"

"What?' the Fairy Tail mages began wondering, seeing the multilayered shield appear in front of them. "What is she doing? Isn't she the enemy?"

"That won't stop it, but it will slow it down," she reveals, turning towards Cana and the rest of the Fairy Tail mages. "If I were you, I would evacuate, both yourself and the civilians."

"And why should we listen to you?" Wakaba asks. "You were just attacking us not too long ago. For all we know, this could be a trap."

"Besides, our guildmates are in there," Cana adds, "they'll stop it, I just know it."

          "And if they don't?"

"They will," a green-haired woman named Bisca said.

"Right now our friends are fighting for their lives," Alzack says, "and who are we to just abandoned them while they do so."

"We're not leaving," Cana states, putting her foot down. "Why are you helping? You had no issue with attacking us and Magnolia before. What changed?"

"I saw their faces," she mutters, before turning around back towards the magic circle, tears beginning to run down her face. "I'm sorry Gajeel."

Once again, shoutout to PokePrism14 for this amazing fanart of Elvira in battle mode. It's great and I feel as though it fits the chapter perfectly.

Also I'm curious, do any of you have an idea of what Elvira's backstory is? If so, what are them? I'm curious about your theories.
