"You ready to go?"
"Yup!" I looked at myself in the mirror one more time, to make sure everything was in place. I don't even know why I'm getting this ready for just going to the "Block", wherever that is. I never get ready for stuff, but that Luke guy. He was pretty cute.
I turned around. "How do I look?"
She smirked, "The same as everyone else. Don't worry your bright red hairs makes you stick out like a needle in a haystack."
She was absolutely correct. My hair was fiery red, people used to ask me if it was real or not. Even my natural hair seemed fake. The problems of a red-haired teenager.
Sara led me towards the Block. It was apparently a grassy area, there were picnic tables all across it. A cafe was right next to it. We get an all you can eat buffet here at Harvard Academy. The only places we have to pay for food are at the stores in the "Central Market". At least that's what Sara told me.
I took the place in, this is a beautiful place. Everyone in Harvard Academy is so lucky, to have enjoyed this much luxury all these years.
I felt a warm breath on my neck. "Hey." I yelped a little, and almost fell back. I turned around and saw Luke smiling widely at me. "Glad you could make it."
I laughed and hit his arm. "Gosh, you didn't have to scare me like that!"
"Well where's the fun in that." He winked at me.
He finally took notice of Sara next to me. "Hey Sara! How are you doing? How's that fortune crux going?"
She replied, "It's going great!" Luke then turned to me. "So, are you going to tell me your name? Or am I going to have to make Sara tell me?"
"You haven't told him your name yet?!" She rolled her eyes at me, and said, "Good luck guessing her name Luke." She ran off to talk to two other girls there, leaving me alone with Luke.
"Are you really not going to tell me your name?" His blue eyes twinkled, I couldn't resist his adorable smile.
"Well where's the fun in that?" I mocked him.
He laughed. "Come on, you know you can trust me." He gave me a pouty face, with his hands clasped together.
"Oh alright, my name is Alyse." I beamed at him.
"Alyse. What a beautiful name for a beautiful girl." He winked at me.
I simply laughed and looked around. There were so many people in the same uniform everywhere. I suppose this is where all the cool kids gather.
I finally spot Sara, she with a couple of other people. I should've expected her popularity to be incredible, considering how nice she is and how approachable she is. I, on the other hand, have stayed away from people. Maybe it's just my fear of losing the people close to me once I meet them, I mean that's all that seems to happen.
"So, what is your crux?" In my moment of deep thought, I completely forgot Alex was still next to me.
I rolled my eyes. "If you must know the truth, I don't actually know. Professor Lock never managed to tell me, but I think I'll find out soon enough!"
He was taken aback. Then he shook his head as if nothing happened, and gave me a dorky smile. "Well you should probably go get some food, I'm sitting over there on that table." He pointed towards a table where Sara was already sitting.
"Okay!" I walk towards menu to get some food.
Hmm what should I get today… I stare at the menu without any idea, I never really had the option of eating food outside often, because my guardians said I was too expensive. I've gotten so used to cooking my food that I'm surprised I have the option of having others cooking for me.
I order some pasta, you can never go wrong with pasta. While I'm waiting for the food to be prepared, I go to get my drink.
Walking back, a hooded man perched on top of a tree catches my entire attention. In that momentary confusion, my entire body trips and tumbles, I fall down with scrapes on my knees.
Looking up I see I have poured my drink all over the boy in front of me. He tries wiping it first, and then his hands turn into flames, and the shirt is completely dry in an instant.
Incredible.
His hair is dark and I recognize him from somewhere. He looks up at me, and the awe from my face instantly vanishes. It's Nick.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't pink undies again." He smirked.
I would've felt apologetic if it were anyone else.
I rolled my eyes, "You absolutely deserved that for before."
"Woah now, no need to get all defensive. I'm not the one who's running into everyone. Maybe you should watch where you're going next time."
"No need to be so rude mister! At least I have the decency to learn someone's name properly, NICK."
"I don't want to learn the name of such a rude and clumsy newbie." He smirked again, and left me without letting me reply.
My jaw was wide open. I didn't even know how to respond to that last statement. Boys like him are SO annoying. He acts like he knows EVERYTHING. Just because he has two cruxes doesn't make him such a hot-shot, and doesn't mean he has to treat people like nothing.
I just rolled my eyes, and got my food, and walked towards the table with Luke and Sara.
I take a seat right next to Sara, and it's not until I put my fork in my pasta, that I see Nick is sitting at the same table. At the end of the table. Across from Luke. Could this get any worse?
Somebody yanked on my back, and started pulling me up. I was floating up into the air, and I could feel someone was pulling me up, but I didn't know where they were. I wailed my arms in frustration. I could see everyone I'd just met staring at me like I'm some kind of freak. Those vacant stares, as though the new girl was someone to be messed with. I've seen it all before.
Soon, five minutes passed and I was still up in the air. I was getting more and more scared, but I was determined not to let anyone bring me down. I just closed my eyes and pretended nothing was happening, and I felt myself dropping. Slower and slower until I reached the ground.
Sara ran to me and asked, "Are you okay?!"
"Yeah, I'm fine! I'm not really sure what happened."
I heard a groan in the back. Some girl huffed, "That was NOT supposed to happen."
I turned to find the owner of the voice, but the sound of her voice stopped before I could put it to a face.
"Well, you already finished your food anyways, we can just go back to our room, and get you well rested for your busy day tomorrow." Sara wrapped her arms around me and started walking me back to the dorms.
"Wait what's tomorrow?" I asked utterly confused.
"Oh you didn't hear? It's your first day of training, to get you all caught up before classes start in 2 weeks!"
