"that's so cool, tobio!" the (h/c)-ette cheers on the raven-haired setter with a wide smile on her face.
"it's not that much of a big deal, (y/n)" kageyama signs at the deaf girl. "it's just the all-japan youth training camp"
the two were currently out on an amusement park date which (y/n) suggested them to do. ever since knowing the risks of her ear operation, she decided to spend more time with the people she adores, and today, she chose to hang out with kageyama.
the setter didn't mind. he wanted this too, anyway. his feelings for the deaf girl were obvious and his friends know about it. the only one who's plain oblivious about it is (y/n).
the past months after their match with shiratorizawa, kageyama's been dropping hints of his feelings towards (y/n) from meeting up with her every lunch, hanging out with her every chance he could, to buying her favorite drink but the girl doesn't seem to notice it at all.
(y/n) gasps dramatically before signing at kageyama. "not a big deal?! tobio, it's THE all-japan youth training camp and YOU'RE invited!"
the said boy's deep blue eyes locked with her (e/c)-colored eyes before letting out a hum.
of course, he's happy. him being invited to a youth camp with amazing players all around japan and being praised by (y/n) just made it better. he just so badly tried to not show the deaf gal his flustered face.
(y/n) grabs on to kageyama's hand and dragged him along which surprised the ravenette. "let's ride the ferris wheel!" all kageyama could do was nod at his date because his focus was on their hands.
her warm hands wrapped around his wrist and as if a cliché scene in a movie, his world slowed down its movement and all he could hear was the loud beat of his heart.
"hmm? tobio, are you okay? your face is all red. are you sick?" the journalist checks the setter's body temperature with the back of her palm.
the sudden contact made the blue-eyed boy startled and feel hotter than he already is, causing him to slightly stumble back.
snapping back to reality, kageyama nods vigorously at (y/n).
"are you sure?"
"yeah, let's go"
the setter grabs on to the journalist's wrist, and this time, it's the girl's time to blush.
she didn't know how to tell him her feelings and even if she did know how to, she was scared to get rejected because, after all, who would want to date a deaf girl?
so instead, she's learning to at least accept and cherish everything she and kageyama has.
but greed. greed's still there. the yearning for something — a relationship more than just friends and she knows nothing of what to do with it.
the two have settled down in the ferris wheel, sitting across each other with awkward tension, not knowing how to start a conversation with all the thoughts of their feelings on their minds.
the wheel finally started moving with a long pause for the first few minutes that all they could do was stare at each other's eyes, diving deep in them as if looking for an answer to everything.
"tobio"
(y/n)'s voice rang in kageyama's mind before he could process the fact that he was staring at her.
"i had fun today, i really did." the (h/c)-ette hung her head low, looking at her hands that rested on her thighs.
the raven-haired setter looks at her, wary of what the girl would say next.
the (s/c)-skinned girl's thoughts were pondering whether she'd tell her date about her ear operation or not.
if she's lucky, she'd still be able to go on more dates with him, more time with him, more everything and if not, well, this is their last time together.
biting her lips, she finally looked up to meet a pair of worried deep blue eyes. "how about you?"
the boy gave her a small smile as he signed back to her. "i did too"
"i'm glad" she replied with a smile of her own.
silence once again filled the space they're in and this time, kageyama was the one to move first.
"what are you trying to say, (y/n)?"
their wheel long passed the highest peak of the ride and slowly goes back down to the ground.
"i don't really know how to say this to you but" the journalist takes a deep breath before signing again. "i'm having my operation soon and there's a chance i won't live after."
the setter was suddenly taken back to the first time they both met each other.
the way he was shocked that the girl in front of him was deaf. that was the same shock he has now - no, it was more than that.
he was scared.
so scared that all his blue orbs could do was widen every second that passes.
"tobio" (y/n) calls out to him and that's when he realized the ride already finished. his date was waiting for him outside while the people in line are excitedly waiting for their turn to ride.
the setter wordlessly got out of the wheel and followed the (h/c)-ette out.
the (e/c)-eyed girl hums to herself while walking home with kageyama as she felt the weight on her chest gone after she finally managed to tell the milk lover about her operation.

"thanks for walking me home" the journalist thanks the setter as she takes a step towards her house's front door when the setter grabs on to her arm.
the news that (y/n) told him was still in his head, not going away no matter what other things he'd think of.
the what if's ringing in his mind, clouding every other thoughts but (y/n).
if he'd move, it has to be now.
letting go of the girl's arm, he puts his hands in front of him, getting ready to sign.
"your week-long stay at the hospital will be over on January, right?" the ravenette confirms.
the (h/c)-ette didn't really understand why he was asking but nonetheless nod her head as an answer.
"when you've rested well enough, will you go out with me?" kageyama signed as his cheeks were painted pink. "i mean be mine by then"
happiness wasn't even enough to express how (y/n) was feeling that night. she was more than happy. she was feeling all giddy and she could definitely swear the butterflies in her belly flapped a hundred times more than it did before.
she was left speechless.
not handling the embarassment, kageyama decided to say his goodbye to (y/n). he was already walking away when he heard her voice call out to him.
looking back to the (l/n) residence, he saw the girl he fell in love with, having a big grin on her face.
"you better win when i come to your match"
"we will"
