The next day :
Jay Carson : Starting from next month, we will function as a cohort. Which means no unnecessary people on set, ruling out visitation et cetera.
Jen and the rest of the cast and crew of TMS are currently in a meeting discussing the new guidelines on set, now that they'll finally be able to continue production in a few weeks.
Reese : Even family?
Jay : Even family. We can't risk anything.
Reese turns to Jen, giving her a crooked smile as she hopes she's not the only one a little sad they won't be able to have family and friends around.
Mark : What do we do with stand-ins?
Jay : We'll have to wait and see, but so far we don't know.
Suddenly feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket, Jen pulls it out seeing Brad's name on the screen.
Jen : I need to take this. Excuse me.
Walking out of the room she answers the phone, smiling by the sound of Brad's voice.
Brad : Hi baby.
Jen : Hi. What's up?
Brad : I just wanted to know when I can expect you home today?
Jen : Uhm, I think we'll be done by 6. Why?
Brad : No reason.
With a smirk on his face, Brad's got the phone up to his ear as he's getting the groceries out of the bag while talking.
He's planning a dinner for the two of them tonight, as it's been a long time since they've had a date night after COVID happened.
Jen : You're not gonna do a jump scare on me are you?
Brad : No.
He laughs as he knows how much she hates when he does that.
Jen : Okay, I gotta get back.
Brad : Oh yeah, of course.
Jen : Love you. See you soon.
Brad : Love you too.
A couple of hours later :
Jen : Brad!
Walking through the door, Jen's met by Clyde and Sophie running up to her pressing their heads against her legs.
Jen : Hi you guys..
She gives each of them some kisses, before walking into the living room, throwing her purse on the couch.
Jen : Honey?
Brad : In here!
Turning the corner to the kitchen, she's met by Brad standing next to a set table and lit candles.
Jen : Brad...
Brad : I thought you might be hungry..
Walking over to him, she plants a kiss on his lips before wrapping her arms around him.
Jen : This is so sweet of you.
Brad : Well, I just realized how long it's been since we've sat down and had a proper dinner.
Jen : We have dinner every day, don't we?
Brad : Yeah, but I mean something else than pasta.
Laughing, she sits down on the chair as he pulls it out for her.
Brad : Wine?
Jen : Yes, please.
He grabs the bottle, pouring some in the glass before joining her.
Jen : This looks fancy.
Brad : It's steak, roasted potatoes, asparagus, some other vegetables I forgot and that sauce you like so much.
Jen : And you made all this?
Brad : Yeah.
Jen : By yourself?
He nods, feeling proud he finally gets to show her how much he's improved in the kitchen since they were married.
Brad : So how was work?
Jen : It was great. Really good seeing everyone again.
Brad : It'll be nice for you to get back.
Jen : Yeah... even though I quite enjoyed the time we've had by ourselves the last few months.
Brad : So you haven't gotten sick of me yet?
Jen : No. Quite the opposite.
She smiles at him, before cutting into the steak taking a bite.
Jen : Let's hope I don't end up with food poisoning.
Brad : Mean.
Jen : Ah, good humor is the health of the soul Brad.
He laughs as she winks at him.
As she continues to eat the food in front of her, Brad keeps staring, making her blush.
Jen : What?
She muffles, with food in her mouth.
Brad : You're just really beautiful.
Jen : Oh come on', I've been at work the whole day. I look like a mess.
Brad : No you don't.
Jen : Yeah I do.
Jen laughs, getting sauce on her chin.
Brad : Well now you do. With food all over your face.
She rolls her eyes at him, before taking her napkin wiping it off.
Jen : So, I talked to Reese today... and she's thinking about adopting a new puppy.
Brad : Oh.
Jen : She showed me this rescue center called Wagmor Pets... and I was thinking what if we take a look?
Brad : At the dogs? You wanna adopt one?
Jen : Yeah.
Brad : But aren't we kind of in the middle of something else?
Referring to their plans of having a child, Brad doesn't really understand where she's getting at.
Brad : Have you changed your mind?
Jen : No.... not at all Brad.
Taking his hand in hers, she sighs.
Jen : I just thought it'd be a good idea to see how we'd deal with the training of a dog... before we raise a child.
Brad looks down, thinking about what she just said, making it clear he's a little disappointed.
Jen : Brad. It's not that I don't want to have a child yet, I really do... and that's why I thought this would be a good idea. Cause' I think it would give us an idea of how we would work together as a team.
Brad : I guess you're right.
Jen : You really think so?
He nods, before stroking her hand.
Jen : It doesn't mean we have to completely lay the surrogate thing on ice though. We could still...
Brad : Really? Cause I've actually found a place I thought we could look into.
Laughing, she takes a sip of her wine.
Jen : Of course you have.
A few days later :
Jen : We're leaving soon, if Brad could just hurry the fuck up.
Andrea laughs as Jen gets annoyed.
Jen : I told him to take a shower when he woke up but he was certain he would have plenty of time to do it later.
Andrea : Which wasn't the case?
Jen : No!
Andrea : So... have you decided on a dog yet?
Jen : I think so... remember the one I sent you a picture of?
Andrea : The labrador?
Jen : Yeah. It really stole my heart.
Brad : Okay, I'm ready!
Brad comes rushing down the stairs, surprisingly all dressed and ready to go.
Brad : Sorry honey.
Jen : Mhm.
Andrea : Call me when you get home.
Jen : I will. Bye.
She turns to look at him, smiling.
Jen : You're a pain in the ass Pitt.
Brad : I know.
He leans in giving her a kiss, before taking her hand leading her to the door.
Brad : Come on'. Let's bring this little fella home.
A couple of hours later, on the way home :
Jen : He's adorable.
Brad : He really is.
Laying his hand on Jen's thigh, he smiles at the puppy laying in her arms as they're driving home.
Jen : Look at daddy.
The little puppy turns his big eyes to Brad, who had no idea a dog would make them feel this much like a family already.
Jen : What should we name him?
Brad : I don't know.
Jen : Yeah, me neither.
Brad : Do you think Clyde and Soph will get excited?
Jen : I hope so... but I think we should keep him in the dog room for a while. Just until he's settled.
Brad : Good idea.
Jen : Oh, you remembered to grab the things on that list I gave you right? The collar and...
Brad : Yeah yeah... this isn't the first dog I've owned Jen.
Jen : I know... but it's the first dog we own, together.
He looks at her as she pulls their new puppy closer, smiling as he thinks to himself...
"this is the start of their family".
At Jen's house a little later :
Brad : How is he?
Sneaking up behind her, he wraps his arms around her waist as she's standing in the doorway.
Jen : Shhh. He's sleeping.
She points to the couch, where he's laying on his back with a bone in his mouth.
Brad : I was wondering, where did you get that "good humor is the health of the soul" or whatever from?
Jen : What?
Brad : The thing you said a few days ago, while we were having dinner.
Jen : I don't know, I think Mandy said it to me once.
Brad : It's been bugging me all day. I feel like I know the name of who said it, but I can't seem to remember...
Pulling up her phone, Jen googles the quote finding out it comes from an ancient earl.
Jen : Philip Stanhope.
Brad : Yeah... but he goes by another name. Lord, something.
Jen : Lord Chesterfield?
Brad : Yes!
Lifting her brow, she's confused as to why this has been bugging him.
Jen : And why did you wanna know that?
He points to the puppy.
Brad : Doesn't he look like a Chesterfield?
Jen : Lord Chesterfield. Chesterfield...
She walks over to the puppy, planting a kiss on it's head before turning to Brad, smiling.
Jen : It suits him.
Brad : You think?
Jen nods as Brad pulls her closer, letting her head rest on his shoulder as they're watching Chesterfield sleep peacefully.
Jen : I need to take a video of this.
Pulling out her phone she opens the camera, before walking back over to him while filming.
Jen : Chesterfield, have you fallen asleep with your bone in your mouth?
She whispers, not wanting to wake him.
Jen : I think you have.
