Amity POV:

"What!? No no, no way! You could seriously get hurt Luz!" I had yelled to her, but Luz had argued back anyways, "If it's to help you then I'm willing to get punched in the face again."

We had argue back in forth for a little while until I finally gave in, "I won't let anyone lay a finger for claw or whatever they have on you, I promise Amity!" She said while hugging me.

I remembered how much I blushed when she said that, that was a few days ago and I didn't let Boscha hear the end of it.

Now I was on my way to a secluded area in the forest, I told Luz to meet me there since I knew she didn't have that much combat experience. My mind was racing the entire walk there.

"This isn't a date. This isn't a date. This isn't a date. This isn't a date. This isn't a date. We're here just here to train. That's it."

I told myself repeatedly, feeling as if my face was on fire.

"I really hope Luz isn't there yet, I don't want her to see me like this." I said to myself as I could imagine how much of a mess I looked like.

Luckily for me, she wasn't there yet and I breathed out in relief, "Now I can pull myself together, I can't get distracted by anything. You have to focus Amity." I told myself, placing the duffel bag I was carrying down.

I breathed and gave my body shake, figuring it might be a while until Luz shows up. I decided to climb a nearby tree and relax on a branch near the ground. I told her to come by 11:15 PM and it was 10:57 by the time I arrived.

I rested my head on the tree, one of my legs up while the other dangled off the branch. I crossed my arms and looked up at the orangish purple sky, my thoughts drifting as I watched the clouds, and the occasional griffin, pass by.

Sometimes I wondered how it must've been like for Luz back in the human realm, did she make new friends, learned anything new, dated anyone...? Ever since she came back, I've been curious about her time in the human realm.

I didn't want to seem clingy or anything like that so I've just been keeping all my questions to myself, "She just got back a few days ago, it'd be weird to bombard her with a ton of questions." I thought to myself.

I still found it hard to believe Luz was really staying in the Boiling Isles, was her mom really ok with that? Surely Luz told her about everything that she went through in her time in the demon realm, right?

There's no way Luz's mom would be OK with her staying in a place like this, I shook the thoughts out of my head. "Stop thinking like that Amity. Just be grateful that Luz gets to stay. Oh great, now that makes me sound like a weirdo."

I sighed and pushed any thoughts I was having out of my mind, I felt my eyelids get heavy and I closed my eyes. I felt exhaustion waft over my body and I decided right there that I was gonna take a small nap, at least until Luz arrives.

It only felt like a few minutes went by before I heard, "Amity! I'm here!" I opened my eyes and tiredly looked around, I saw Luz waving her hand in the air and jogging towards me. I quickly stretched and grunted when my shoulder popped, I shook myself awake.

I started climbing down the tree and by the time I got to the bottom, Luz was already in front of me. I could see that she was excited, she was wearing her purple and white, short sleeved hoodie with a black longe sleeve under it and jean shorts with rips in them, along with purple Converse.

I couldn't help but smile at her excitement, "You ready to start?" I asked her, tilting my head a bit. She nodded excitedly, "Yea! I'm ready to be just as good as you are!"

I gave her a nod and walked over to my duffel bag which was by the tree, I crouched down beside it and unzipped it. As I unzipped it the bag I heard Luz mutter, "I probably should've worn something else, I have a feeling this is gonna go into the afternoon."

I looked down at what I was wearing, I had on a white tank top with my grudgby varsity jacket on top of that, and I was wearing black jeans that were cuffed at the bottom. To tie it all together, I was wearing my usual black combat boots.

This is what I usually wore when I went out to train, of course I would take the jacket off. Luz was right when she said this is going to go into the afternoon, that's usually the best time to practice. I would always go out to the marketplace and get something to eat afterwards.

It took me a moment to realize she meant it was going to get hot, when you're training in hot temperatures you usually sweat. My eyes widened and I felt my cheeks start to heat up, "Hot..." I muttered under my breath.

"What was that Amity?"

"Ah hot! Is it just me or is it getting hot? Heheh.."

I mentally kicked myself for saying that out loud, I quickly pulled out the equipment I had packed in the duffel bag and started setting them up around the small clearing Luz and I were in. I took off my varsity jacket and tied it around my waist.

I placed my hands on my hips and looked over at Luz, "You ready to start?" I asked her, she nodded excitedly. I walked over to a punching bag that I had tied around a sturdy tree branch, Luz followed and she looked around at the different equipment.

"First things first, your punches. If you actually want to start gaining respect and want people to take you seriously, you're gonna need to give them a good punch. So show me what you got." I instructed her.

She gave me a quick nod and pulled back her fist, giving the punching bag a hard hit. She looked up at me and I gave a little nod, "That was a good hit, not sure if it would do a lot of damage to your opponent though."

"Try thinking of something that makes you mad and use that to your advantage, emotions can sometimes increase the force of your punch." I told her and she nodded in response.

Luz took a deep breath and I could see that she was starting to think, I started to think "Could Luz even be mad at anything? She's like, the happiest person I know."

Before I could say anything else that might help her, she gave the punching bag a hard and swift punch, which sent it back. She immediately smiled widely and looked at me brightly, I smiled back but flinched when the punching bag swung back and knock into Luz.

She stumbled backwards with a 'oof!' and landed on her rear end, she shook up her head and nervously laughed while looking up at me. I gave her an awkward smile and held my hand out for her to grab and lift herself up with.

She returned the awkward smile and took my hand, lifting herself off the ground and dusting herself off. "That was a good punch, definitely better than the last." I complimented and I saw her eyes light up which caused a small blush to form onto my cheeks.

However the curiosity started to gnaw at my head, "I wonder what made her mad enough to put that much force into her punch, she's usually a bright person and rarely ever gets mad." I mentally shrugged, "I guess I shouldn't pry."

I told Luz to continue to throw punches at the punching bag, to see how much stamina she would have. After a little while of that, we took a small break and made a small conversation about how everyone's been doing.

I told her about what Boscha told me the other day about the ring and Willow and I could clearly see she was excited, her and I even teased Boscha about how much she had stuttered when telling me.

"Do you know when Boscha is gonna pop the question?" Luz had asked me, to which I had shaken my head and responded with, "I have no idea, Boscha never told me. She's definitely been thinking about it if she decided to buy the ring."

Now, Luz and I were practicing offensive and defensive combat. Defensive was easier to learn than offensive, for Luz anyways. All she had to do was dodge and perform small counter attacks, for offensive however, she was less skilled at. Especially since she was hesitant to try and hit me.

I sighed and shook my head, placing my hands on her shoulders. "Luz. If you really want to go through with this, you're gonna have to try and hit me. This is training after all, you can't win if you can't hit your opponent right, ok?"

Luz hesitantly nodded her head, "O-ok..if I hurt you though we're calling it quits for the day, ok?" I smiled warmly at her and nodded, "Deal."

I felt my face start to heat up, "She doesn't want to hurt me heh..cute." I took my hands off her shoulders and asked, "You ready?" To which she nodded.

We took a few steps away from each other and got into a fighting stance, for me it was as easy as casting a light spell. For Luz however, it took her a while to get the proper footing and position.

I took note of this and mentally said, "I'll have to show her how to get into the stance next time."

I heard her mutter something under her breath but it was too quiet for me to make out, all I was able to hear was, "This really is....mortal combat." And she chuckled a little after.

I was confused but shook my head, we stood there for a moment before Luz started busting out laughing. I felt my ears lower as a blush formed on my face, "Luz! You have to be serious!"

She continued to laugh for a little bit before finally composing herself, "I'm sorry Amity! Just the thought of me learning how to fight is still bizarre!" She said while waving her hands in the air.

I sighed and nodded, "Yea, that's how it was for me too. But you have to be serious, Luz. Those guys in the fight club won't go easy on you."

I saw her breathe out and nodded, "Yea..yea you're right. I've been meaning to ask though, how did you get yourself into the fight club?" Her question caught me off guard and I stared at her for a bit before looking at the ground with lowered ears.

I was about to open my mouth to respond but she quickly interrupted me, "Oh..oh! Oh I'm sorry Amity! I didn't know it was a sensitive subject! You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." She spouted out nervously.

I shook my head, "No no, Luz it's fine, really. I probably should tell you. We don't have to practice today, we can go to the marketplace and get something to eat. We can sit down there and I'll tell you about it."

She nodded hesitantly, "Are you sure? I don't want you to feel like you HAVE to.." I nodded, and she gave me a small smile which I returned.

We started to pack up the equipment we ended up not using, once we did that I zipped up the duffel bag. I untied my varsity jacket from my waist and put it back on, grabbing the duffel bag from the ground and pulling the strap over my shoulder.

I looked at Luz and nodded, signaling to her that we could start heading towards the marketplace. She nodded back and we both started walking in the direction of the marketplace.

We stayed silent the entire walk there, only making conversation when we saw the marketplace in view. We talked about where we should eat and if we were gonna buy anything else, our conversation ranging from different topics.

She explained to me what she had muttered under her breath that I managed to catch a little bit off. Luz told me about a video game in the human realm called Mortal Combat, however the c was replaced with a k.

I gave her a confused expression and tilted my head, "A k instead of a c? Why?" She shrugged, "Dunno but it's pretty iconic. Maybe I'll show you it sometime if you ever decide to tag along on my trips to the human realm." She smiled at me with a wink.

I felt my face immediately go red and I struggled to find words to respond, the only thing that came out of my mouth was incoherent sputtering.

Luz tilted her head a bit, "You ok Amity?" She asked concerned, I nodded my head quickly and walked faster. "Oh look! There's a good place to eat, c'mon let's go!" I nervously laughed.

Luz quickly followed after me, clearly confused but she didn't press on. We sat down and a waiter came over to take our order.

I ordered a simple sandwich while Luz ordered pancakes, I looked at her and asked, "Pancakes? Right now?"

She nodded happily, "Yep! Anytime of day is perfect for pancakes!" I couldn't help but smiled and laugh a little, we made small conversations while waiting for our food. Talking about the stores we saw on our way here and about whether or not we'd go back and check them out.

Eventually our food came and I nodded a thank you to the waiter, Luz did the same. After eating for a while, Luz cleared her throat making me look up at her.

She rubbed the back of her neck and looked nervous but asked, "Soo..are you gonna tell me...?" I froze and looked down, swallowing the bite I had taken from my sandwich.

We sat there in silence and I saw Luz about to speak up before I opened my mouth and spoked, this time interrupting her, "I said I would tell you, I'm a witch of my word."

Luz nodded slowly with a warm expression, "If it becomes too much for you, you can stop talking about it and we can come up with something else to talk about, ok?"

I gave her a smile back and nodded and I breathed out, "Here it goes, it was two years after you left the Boiling Isles..."
