Chapter eight: The New Boy

IT WAS THE END OF harvest time in Avonlea and it was time for all the kids to return to school. Lacie cousin Zackary, Zack for short. Was stuck with the Salem family for a few months after getting in trouble at an school in Halifax. Meanwhile Lacie and Thomas have grown very close to each other making billy jealous of the pairs friendship, as he felt like he lost his best friend and 'crush'
Lacie have grown very close to Anne, and Jane not so much, but somehow Lacie still managed to hang out with her long time friend and her new friend.
As Lacie was walking to school with her sister LeAnn and her cousin Zackary, Lacie spotted a boy who was sitting on a rock drawing in a sketchbook, Lacie turned to her sister.
"Who's that?" Asked Lacie as she whispered to her sister who looked towards the boys direction
"I don't know but he must be new,"
"I wonder if he has a passion for art," wondered Lacie as she tilted her head, meanwhile Zackary was chatting with some girls making Lacie and LeAnn walk over to him until a voice startled Lacie.
It was Billy Andrews
"Hey Lacie," said billy as he had a smile on his face, Lacie smiled back
"Hi," said Lacie as she smiled at her best friend before she looked back at Zackary
"I hate to ask but... Who are you staring at?" Asked billy as he laughed, Lacie turned her head
"Oh my cousin Zack is staying with my family for a year, it's his punishment for blowing up a classroom in Halifax," said Lacie
"Wait that's your cousin? He used to be ugly," said billy Lacie laughed
"Yep according to my uncle he a ladies man," said Lacie "well I better go before he gets into some more trouble.. see ya around," smiled Lacie as she ran off
But little did Lacie know that billy was staring dreamingly at the girl that ran off, Jane took notice
"Why don't you tell her how you feel it will make you feel better," suggested Jane as she smiled
"I don't know you think I should,"
"I would before Thomas takes his claim early," said Jane "just saying,"
After she said that she walked away, while billy kept looking at the girl who was laughing wildly with her sister

It was lunch time and the girls were sitting in there usual gossip spot talking about Gilbert Blythe leaving. This shocked Lacie but she didn't blame the guy, his father just died, she would've done the same thing if someone she loved died.
"Anne's writing him a letter, aren't you Anne?" Asked ruby as she looked at Anne who was staring at the new boy
"He looks alone," said Anne as she kept looking at the Cole, Josie had a smug look on her face
"Perhaps the thing needs some cheering up," said Josie
Jane looked at Lacie
"Josie is so into Cole," this made Lacie laugh, Josie took notice
"No I am not! I'm just simply observant," said Josie as she went back to her lunch
"There's no boy more sad and handsome then Gilbert Blythe," said ruby, as everyone stopped to look at the young girl before them they bursted out laughing
Meanwhile diana and Anne looked at each other and got up to walk towards the lonely boy, Lacie got up as well and joined Diana and Anne sitting next to the new boy
"Aren't you girls coming over?" Asked Diana and she waved for the girls to come over, Jane got up
"Diana has strawberry tarts and Lacie my best friend," said Jane as she walked over to the group before sitting next to Lacie who smiled at the girl
Next was ruby then Tillie
"Sorry Josie, but strawberries are my favorite," said Tillie as she placed her head down before walking to the group which made the boy smile
Josie looked disbelief at the group that Anne and Diana has formed before getting an idea
"Why of course prissy, I would love to join you and the older girls for lunch," said Josie as she looked out the window to a rock.. which... nobody was sitting at then looking at the group before flipping her hair.
Meanwhile Lacie was enjoying the company of the boy so she decided to introduce herself
"Hi I don't believe we met... I'm Lacie," smiled the girl "and it's my pleasure to make your acquaintance,"
The boy hesitated for a minute before shaking her hand
"Cole Mackenzie," said the boy as him and Lacie shook hands

It was after school and Lacie was walking home with Jane and prissy along with her sister LeAnn and cousin who was obviously flirting with prissy
"So why is your parents making you get married early?" Asked Jane "we're only 14,"
"I don't know she said something about he's the one and stuff like that, which is not true," said Lacie
"Why don't you tell your mother that you don't want this?" Said Jane "I rather see you happy then hurt,"
Lacie sighed
"She won't understand... she even got a man for LeAnn all the way in Charlottetown but why me? I'm still a kid?"
"I don't know but I would talk to her about this even mother considering it," said Jane "I don't want a husband right now!"
Lacie laughed
"As much as I would love to chat some more I better get to the beach, apparently Thomas has something planned," said Lacie as she rolled her eyes
"So thats why he wasn't in school?" Smirked Jane making Lacie roll her eyes
"Oh he doesn't go to school yet.. he starts tomorrow," said Lacie as she untangled her arms with janes, "oh and Dear sis will you please tell mother that I won't be home till later?"
LeAnn laughed while making a pointing finger "you got it,"
After she did that Lacie ran off
"Bye! Have fun but not to much fun!" Said Jane as she yelled out
Lacie just waved her hand up without turning around

After 30 minutes Lacie arrived at the Avonlea beach to be met with the ocean but no sight of Thomas, this made Lacie confused
"Thomas!" Shouted Lacie as she turned around, looking around for her intent
Meanwhile there was a figure that sneaked up behind Lacie picking the petite girl off the ground making her yell it out
"Thomas don't ever do that!" Said Lacie as she slapped him against his arm, Thomas laughed
"So how was school?" Asked Thomas as he took Lacies hand
"Well we have a new boy, names Cole Mackenzie, real sweet and a real artist," said Lacie as she looked at Thomas "and billy is pretty much the same bullying people, he even bullied the new boy today," said Lacie
"I don't see how you are his friend, I mean you deserve better," said Thomas
"Our families are friends that's why but you just have to know him before judging him," said Lacie
"Whatever let's just enjoy the time we have," said Thomas as he let go of Lacie hand running towards the ocean Making Lacie laugh
Meanwhile there was a figure watching the two....
