Mai's pov

"Yes, it's true."

Naruto stood up and folded his arms, furrowing his eyebrows while glaring at Sasuke and I. Watching them like this made my lips twitch with a smile that desperately wanted to form.

"Mai! Don't you remember when not even two weeks ago you were dead set on trying to get Sasuke to return home? What happened to you? What did he do to you?" Sakura screamed, earning no reaction from me.

The words spouting out of their mouths are making my blood boil. Why are they acting like we're the bad guys here? All we are doing is getting revenge for somebody who we care about. Someone who the village treated like a tool and nothing more, a massive burden that weighed on Itachi's shoulders since he was thirteen years old.

"You should re-evaluate who the true enemy is." I spat out with venom laced in my tone.

Naruto stepped forward, "I know that we can't get Sasuke back. But, Mai, please hear me out." He pleaded. I wasn't interested in the slightest of what he wanted to say.

"Nothing will change my mind." I sincerely confessed.

Kakashi chimed in, "Mai, you have to know deep down that this is not you."

What is he talking about? I changed my views on Sasuke and the village simply because I truly understand the hidden truth now. I don't expect them to get that, but they don't get to fucking tell me who I am.

My teeth gritted together from my building rage, "Listen to me, Kakashi. If you knew what I did-."

"Mai, enough of the back and forth. You and Taka head out of here. I'll take care of this." Sasuke demanded.

I glared at him, "I'm not leaving you here alone. They're mission is to kill you. I'm not letting that happen."

Sasuke sighed and spun around. "Suigetsu, take the other two and get out of here. Mai and I will catch up!"

"You got it!" Suigetsu replied.

I smiled with relief due to Sasuke letting me stay and help him fight our old team. The past me would dread this, I would even feel a ping of guilt.

But, that's not how I feel anymore. If they truly want to kill Sasuke, then they're the real enemy here. And I will do anything in my power to keep Sasuke alive.

Everything he did to me doesn't matter anymore. Simply because I understand his intentions and reasons, and he has every right to act the way he does. But, I won't let him do this alone. Just like when we were younger, I'm with him, forever.

Our souls will always be knotted together with pain and trust. And I will stand by that until the day I die. Ino was wrong after all, I believe someday Sasuke and I will get our version of a happy ending.

"Mai, catch." Sasuke warned as he tossed me a shiny black sword... wait.. that's my sword, that I left at my house back at the village. He snook in and got it for me.

I sent him a warm smile as I swiftly caught my sword, spinning it around with my fingers before pointing it at my ex comrades.

"It doesn't have to be this way, Mai. Come to our side and help us defeat Sasuke." Kakashi offered, which made me instantly snap.

"Don't you dare try to change my mind about this! None of you understand the pain he has been through! If you did, you would be over here with us!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I saw Sasuke glance at me from the corner of my eye.

My throat began to sting and hurt from the strain I put on it from yelling, but I couldn't care less about how I'm doing health wise right now. We have business to take care of.

"Mai, please. Don't let the hatred drag you down, too." Naruto pleaded, his ocean blue eyes sparkling from the sunlight.

I chuckled. "I'm not stuck in hatred. I just learned the truth about our pathetic village." I thundered.

"What's the truth, then? Enlighten us." Kakashi challenged.

My mouth opened to speak, but Sasuke cut me off before I could. "Enough of this. Are you going to fight us, or not?"

Naruto stepped forward. "No. I don't want to fight my friends." He said with defeat.

Kakashi glared at Naruto with a quizzical expression. "Naruto, we have orders." He reminded.

"I know. But I just can't. I won't."

I lowered my sword as I stared at Naruto's depressive face. Sakura seemed anxious as she glanced at Kakashi, waiting for his command.

"Fall back for today." Kakashi finally decided, earning another chuckle from me.

I was actually looking forward to this full fledged battle against my old team. Oh, well. There's always the next time they barge in on us.

I put my sword away and spun around to walk back to the hideout, but once I caught a glimpse of Sasuke, I turned back around as he didn't seem to want to let them go.

"Hey, they don't want a battle." I assured, but his eyes stayed glued to our ex comrades with venom prominent in them.

"I will come back and take the darkness from both of you. I will save you guys and bring you both back to the village." Naruto stated confidently.

~

Sasuke and I were currently walking side by side together, making our way to the hideout we have been staying in.

My feet started to become sore as my stomach grumbled and begged for food. I hate being a bother, but I haven't ate in days.

"Sasuke, can we stop for a little?"

He huffed, but nodded. Sasuke plopped down onto a patch of grass that wasn't covered with snow.

I playfully nudged him with my elbow, signaling for him to scoot over so that the snow didn't seep through my pants and make my ass wet.

He frowned but obliged, using his hands to slide himself over, making enough room for me since my thighs were rather tiny.

I took off my backpack and sat down next to him. I unzipped the first pouch and pulled out a baggy filled with various nuts and berries, the sight making my stomach make a loud gargling noise.

I couldn't help but let out a small laugh, glancing at Sasuke who displayed a frown. My teeth chewed my bottom lip to suppress the laughter trying to emerge from my throat.

"Oh, lighten up, will you!" I exclaimed while shoving berries in my mouth. "Want some?"

He shrugged and then held out his hand. I smiled while reaching into the bag, then carefully placing the berries onto his palm.

It's been a while since Sasuke and I were alone like this. We were both on the same side now, it wasn't like I was miserable because of being forced to be apart of Taka.

Silence took over as we both ate our food. I wanted to make conversation with him, but I just didn't know what to say.

"You don't have to resent me anymore, ya know." I vomited out, immediately regretting those words. This could be bad, due to his anger problems.

To my surprise, he didn't get mad. Sasuke turned his head to fully look at me, and I returned the motion. Our eyes bore into each other's intensely.

His body was so close to mine that I could smell his pleasant aroma of mint and a hint of sweat, which sent nostalgia through me. His ravenette hair rested on either side of his face, and his gorgeous midnight eyes were so easy to get lost in.

He was my personal drug. Everything about him mesmerizes me, even his multiple flaws. He deserves the world. No, he deserves more than that. I wish I could give it to him. After all he has gone through, I just want him to have a safe haven, I wish I was that safe haven.

His onyx orbs drifted down to my lips, sending the desperate urge to kiss him right then and there throughout me.

I want to let him know that I'm with him forever, and I know this could screw shit up for us, since he made it clear that last time we kissed it was only to convince me to join him.

But, I don't care anymore. I don't care if this is considered selfish, because me kissing him will confirm that I will always care about him. He needs to know that.

I slowly inched forward, our faces so close that we were breathing the same air. His eyes stayed glued onto my lips, and I looked at his. They were so.. so close.

Hesitantly, I brought my hand up to lace my fingers through his dark raven locks, trailing them down to his cheek so I could gently grasp it.

He wasn't shoving me away. He wasn't saying no. That made my body feel tingly everywhere as my stomach fluttered with butterflies. Sasuke will always have this damned effect on me.

Electricity filled my veins as I used my hand to bring his face to mine; our lips slowly interlocking together perfectly in sync. The moment his mouth come in contact with mine I felt like I was melting, fireworks were going off above us. It felt too good to stop.

I pulled away to gaze into his eyes for reassurance that he wanted this, and in response Sasuke grabbed my neck tightly and yanked my lips back onto his.

The sudden action and the burning feeling of his fingernails dipping into my skin sent shivers down my spine.

His tongue glided along my bottom lip, and I opened my mouth to let it in as I too shoved my appendage down his throat.

Our tongues danced together as the kiss turned more fervent. His hold on my neck became more aggressive, earning a low throaty whine to escape against Sasuke's mouth.

My fingers frantically gripped his hair as my nails dug into his scalp, our mouths hungrily colliding together.

They way he made me feel caused my heart to skip a beat, and it felt like all time stopped as we continued to kiss.

My hands then traveled down his chest onto his toned abs like they had a mind of their own. His skin was cold from the winter weather, but there was also forming sweat due to our actions.

Sasuke's hand at some point moved from my neck to my hair, his fingers sinking into my scalp as he fisted a chunk of my blue locks.

He aggressively yanked my head back and started to assault my neck with harsh and heated kisses. His mouth paused in the middle of my neck, his teeth biting and sucking at my skin sending pleasurable tingles around my body.

I bit my lip as a moan emitted from me, but I was too lost in the moment to feel embarrassed about that. The feeling of his wet mouth on my flesh caused me to start hyperventilating. I never wanted this to end, I craved more. I wanted all of him. To myself.

Sasuke halted his kisses which caused me to whine, and he chuckled before possessively re-attaching his lips onto mine, the only sound in the air being our wet lips smacking together and the noises he was making come out of me.

My body felt weakened and began to throb, practically begging for Sasuke's touch. He has such a great effect on me that just making out gets me all riled up for him.

But, suddenly, he pulled away, leaving my lips wet and kiss bruised as I heavily breathed. I bit the inside of my cheek, still intoxicated and possessed by his kisses and touch.

His onyx eyes, that were dark and deep like the midnight sky, drilled into my golden honey pair. His hair was now a mess from my hands, and his shirt had been pulled open. He looked fucking hot.

I didn't exactly know what to say after that, and I'm sure he doesn't either. I took a deep breath and let the cold air fill my lungs and I placed my snack into my backpack before zipping it shut.

"Thanks for giving me my sword." I softly spoke, cutting the silence with my voice.

Sasuke fixed his hair and shirt as he replied monotonously, "It's not a big deal."

I shrugged. "It is to me."

With no response from him, I stood up off of the ground and bent forward, using my hand to pull out my hair tie letting my long cobalt blue hair loose for only a moment, before I started to form it into a loose bun.

"You should keep it down," Sasuke blurted, my eyes widening at the suggestion.

I flipped my head back up and combed my hair with my hands, using my fingertip to part it down the middle perfectly, letting my locks fall past my butt.

"Let's head back," Sasuke said, and I nodded as I threw my backpack on.

As we walked back, I looked away and stared into the bright blue sky, hiding a creeping smile that danced on my lips.
