The streets are empty.
The sky is dark.
A strong autumn wind is blowing. She closed the jacket on, but her body still trembled. Not by the wind, because at that moment she could not feel anything at all. Her nerves seem to have shut down. She could not see, she could not speak, she could not hear, and she could not feel anything.
Except for the pain in her heart. She can feel that one.
It hurts badly.
It takes a lot of strength to drag the foot through and move forward. One of her hands shot up to her chest, clutching the front of the jacket. The other arm stretched forward and grasped the iron fence of the bridge. The iron fence was supposed to feel cold in her naked hands, but in reality she felt nothing even though she had gripped the iron fence until her knuckles turned white.
Her eyes stared blankly down. The surface of the river below is as serene as a large black glass that reflects light from street lamps.
That river must have been very cold. She'd freeze to death if she fell into that river. Freeze to death.
She just needed to let herself down. After that, the whole chamber will freeze. The pain will also freeze. She won't feel it again.
