(Y/N): An Introduction

The Demon Slayer Corps could tell you many pieces of useful and brilliant knowledge, but perhaps the most accurate would be this: "Giyu is not a man of many words."

Indeed, Giyu was not a man of many words. His aura was silent as was his nature; cold and stoic. Although he had endured a somewhat difficult mission, his dark hair was sleek and cool, his handsomely featured face unscathed but small cut, and his movements agile. He was elegant. Silent. Powerful. His dark blue eyes pierced you with their mysterious intelligence.

But today, there was one thing that shattered his image.

Today, Giyu held a wailing baby in his arms.

The baby was hastily wrapped in bloody rags, (most likely a piece of kimono torn from a corpse) and was of a particularly loud nature. It's cries echoed through the front yard of the butterfly mansion, startling it's residents.

Giyu, of course, made no attempt to quiet the child.

Ignoring the surprised stares that reached him, he went his own way, strutting towards the infirmary with an air of indignant arrogance, as if he couldn't come to understand why everyone was gaping at him.

He arrived at the sliding door of the infirmary and opened it. Then sniffled in disgust.

Most would have been happy to see the face of Kocho Shinobu after a fatiguing mission. Even as she stood behind the door, her head poking out, she was delicate, sweet, and very pretty.

But her words could be poison itself. Giyu knew this too well.

Thus, he rolled his eyes and looked the other way, heaving a deep sigh.

"Giyu-san~" Shinobu said his name coyly, her small, pink lips in a mischievous smirk, "I see you've kept a certain someone hidden from us! And to go that far... poor girl..." these last words were said with such overwhelming sarcasm that Giyu couldn't help but cringe distastefully.

"He's not mine. He's a survivor from the mission."

"Ah."

Shinobu looked a bit disappointed at Giyu's bland comeback and shrugged.

"...Proud of yourself being a virgin... I see..." She said with mocking thoughtfulness.

"..."

Despite the intensity of this insult, The male looked nonplussed. With one arm still holding the screaming baby, and one touching the back of his neck, he said in monotone,

"Miss Kocho. Could you get him something to eat? He is hurting my ears."

Shinobu's gaze landed on the baby at last, seeming to have just realized the disturbance. She patted Giyu lightly on the shoulder as if to say, "Cheer up, pal" and giggled as she skipped back into the infirmary.

Giyu had barely time to recover from Shinobu's sadistic harassment when a blurry streak of green and pink came running towards him at full speed. His deadpan expression broke for a millisecond and his eyes widened. He knew who it was.

He also knew that his life would be in grave danger if he did not move aside.

The green and pink streak slowly evolved into a muscled young women with large breasts and a friendly smile.

"I heard a baby's wail and I couldn't resist!" Mitsuri Kanroji squealed, out of breath. She was energetic, robust, and her optimism always went beyond Giyu's comprehension, "Oooh~! Hmu hmu... I see... Aren't you worried that he's someone else's son?"

She looked up at him, her eyes shining innocently. She blinked twice.

There was a moment of silence before the Water Pillar heaved another sigh, "He's not mine. He's a survivor from the mission."

"....."

Not receiving a response, he said again, "He's not mine. He's a survivor from the mission."

But Mitsuri Kanroji was obviously not listening. She busied herself by cooing the child, intently watching him grasp her thumb.

"Awwah! Giyu-san~ what's his name?"

Of Existential Crisis

"Eh?!"

Mitsuri had brought up a good point. The baby's mother had entrusted him to Giyu's hands, but had died before uttering his name.

The Pillar could still remember the mother. She had been young, covered in blood and wounds when he had arrived- and in her last moments, she had tugged the back of his sandals as he left, asking him, and only him, to take care of her son. The guilt within him grew as he wondered what would have been different if he had arrived even a minute earlier.

Giyu liked to tell himself that the only reason he was keeping the baby was on a dead mother's wishes. Otherwise, he would've sent the child to an orphanage. He had definitely not felt pity. Or sympathy. Or anything of the sort.

"Giyu-san? Hellooo--"

"I don't know."

"I have an idea!" She said with a grin, "How about we ask all of the other Hashira for names! And you get to choose the best one!"

"... Alright."

--------

#1 Sanemi

Mitsuri skipped to the closest Hashira in sight. She gestured to him dramatically.

"Our first candidate! Sanemi-san! Any ideas?"

Sanemi growled and scrunched his face into a frown, which caused the scar on his eye to do the same, "Why are ya askin' me to name Giyu's kid. I don't know, how about: 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' Nice name, eh?"

The silence that followed encouraged Giyu to mentally facepalm.

"Alrrriiighht" Mitsuri stammered, "Next candidate!"

----------

#2 Muichiro

"Any name ideas?"

"I don't really remember... That one name... What was it?"

.

.
.
.

Muichiro stared blankly into the distance. The Hashira, after many attempts to wake him from his thoughts, left quietly.

#3 Rengoku

"Any n--"

Rengoku interrupted Mitsuri took large steps towards to a fatigued Giyu. After closing their distance to about three feet, he said with his booming voice,

"Congratulations friend. I never thought you would make it this far."

" And what exactly is that supposed to mean--"

He put a hand on Giyu's shoulder hardily, "I give the mother my sympathy."

"Again, he is not mine--"

"You're not holding him right, friend," Rengoku smiled, his white teeth shining "Put your hand under his neck or it shall snap!"

Mitsuri looked from Giyu to Rengoku nervously, "... Any name suggestions?"

"Hmmm... What do you think about the name... Ankoku?" Rengoku replied with unnecessary seriousness.

"That is a strange name..." Mitsuri said thoughtfully, "Let's see... Taking the kanji of it... The meaning seems to be 'shadow' or '...gloom'?"

"......."

Giyu heaved his third sigh of the day.

Giyu: A Realization

The sun had gone down at approximately the same speed of Giyu's self-esteem.

He and Mitsuri sat on a porch.

She sighed, "Maybe this wasn't a great idea after all. No one has quite the right name..."

.
.
.
.

"P-Please... Make him a home... You're s-so strong... I want my son to grow up in your arms--"

.
.
.
.
.

"I think... I have a good one." Giyu muttered to no one in particular.

"Whoa! Really? What is it?"

"(Y/N)"
