draco's pov
the second the curtain shuts i instantly begin cursing myself as i walk back up to the stands. still couldn't kiss her. i take a seat back down with everyone, and it's not long before the competition commences. we learn their task is to collect a golden egg (that was surrounded by other, real dragon eggs), that the dragon is guarding. y/n was right, each of them have a different dragon.
the first to go is cedric. he battles a swedish-short snout. he has many, many close calls, where the fire nearly singes off the ends of his hair; but in the end he uses a transfiguration spell to change a rock into a dog. this distracts the dragon and allows him to run pass, securing the egg. he earns himself 38 points.
next, a common welsh green is brought out before us. i watch the exit of the tent carefully, waiting to see if y/n will be the one bursting out at the sound of the whistle. when the noise rings through our ears, however, it is fleur who emerges. i sit back in my seat, slightly less interested in the outcome. blaise, crabbe, and goyle, however, lean forward intently, hanging on the edge of every movement fleur makes. she attempts to charm her dragon into a trance, which for the most part works. as she's on her way to the egg, the dragon let out a loud snore, resulting in flames bursting from it's snout, setting fleur's robes on fire. gasps scatter throughout the crowd, but she is able to put out the flame while still getting to the egg. she earns only 35 points.
krum is the next to enter the ring. all of the slytherin's, including myself, cheer loudly. he uses a conjunctivitis curse to blind the dragon (a chinese fireball), but as it thrashed about it's tail broke many of the other eggs. krum was quick to capture the golden one though, so he still earned 40 points.
then, a hungarian horntail emerges. the most dangerous of all the dragon's seen today, i pray that potter is the one to face it... not y/n. to my delight, potter exits the tent next, looking as frightened as i imagine any of us would be, if we were being chased down by a horntail. he uses a summoning charm to conjure his broom. smart move, flying is a stronger skill for potter than anytype of magic. he flies skyward, tempting the dragon to rise away from the eggs. in one quick sweep, harry dips down under the dragon... and emerges with the egg in his hand. he receives 40 points.
we all know who's up next, and we wait anxiously to see what dragon she will be up against. a romanian longhorn is pulled into the ring by the keepers, and daphne looks to me to explain what she's up against.
"nothing venomous" i say, "which is good. the horn's tricky though, she just needs to watch out for being stabbed"
there are only three known spells that dragon's aren't immune too. the conjunctivitis curse used by krum, the bewitched sleep used by fleur, and the stunning spell; which has to be used by multiple wizards at once to work. as y/n emerges at the sounds of the whistle, i'm on the edge of my seat, wondering what she will do. she takes a similar approach to krum, but rather than casting the curse instantly, she lures the dragon toward her in the corner, away from the eggs, and then shouts the curse. as the dragon lurches in random directions, roaring loudly, y/n levitates to rocks in the air, smashing them togethers to bring the dragon's attention away from her. while it's distracted, she slides underneath the belly of the dragon, emerging on the other side right next to the eggs. she snatches up the golden one and the crowd cheers loudly. she and krum were the only contestants who gained no injury from the dragon. y/n was the only one who's other eggs suffered no damage. she earns 42 points, only losing some points on speed.

your pov
i go back into the tent, breathing heavily after my turn in the task. i see all of the other's staring at me, and the golden egg i'm clutching in my arms. all of them are spread out a bit, fleur and cedric being treated for burns and harry being treated for a gash on his side. krum stands before me, arms crossed as usual, looking me up and down.
"what?" i say, nodding my head at him
"you've gotten the highest score" he says, almost in disgust
"i have?" i say breathlessly, looking around the room, all of the other champions nod... cedric with a slight smile on his face. i shrug slightly and push past krum, taking a seat next to where cedric is lying. we talk for a bit while madam pomfrey applies spells and creams to his wounds, cedric wincing every now and then. after a bit, bagman enters and explains that our eggs all contains clues for the next task. after he talks for a bit longer, congratulating all of us on a job well done, he lets us exit the tent, beginning the long walk back up the hill to the castle, where everyone awaits us in the common rooms.

"looks like we have ourselves a champion after all!" flint yells as i duck through the entrance. the other quidditch boys all cheer loudly behind him, all coming up to me and saying congrats. i smile and laugh with everyone, all of them happy i'm ahead after the first task. i scan the room and see my friends standing off in the back, by the girls dormitory staircase. i murmur thank you's to the people i push past, eventually making my way back to them.
"absolutely brilliant" daphne smiles
"you did incredible!" pansy adds, both of them coming in to hug me at once.
"well i would've been nowhere without draco's help" i smile, looking past them to draco up on the first step, leaning against the wall. pansy and daphne both smirk slightly, disappearing into the crowd behind us.
"you really shouldn't have lured it into a corner" draco shakes his head, "too risky"
"it worked out, didn't it?" i smile, walking a little closer to him
"i s'pose" he shrugs, looking down at me, "you did good" he nods, smiling a little. i look back over my shoulder, checking that no one is watching... they're all preoccupied, gathered around the egg in the center of the common room. i turn my head back toward draco, seeing him still looking at me. i place my hand onto the corner of the wall he's leaning on, lifting myself up a bit to kiss his cheek.
"thanks for all the help, malfoy" i land back down on my feet, not staying to see his reaction. instead, i turn quickly around, with a smile on my face, running back into the crowd and yelling, "who wants to see what this egg has in store?!" the room all shouts in agreement as i jump up onto the table, holding the egg above me. for a second i make eye contact with draco, seeing him smirking in the stairwell, his arms crossed and a slight red hue to his normally pale cheeks. i look back at the egg, and the crowd surrounding me. i lower the egg onto the table, everyone gathering in closer as i open the top and it bursts open, letting out the ugliest, and loudest scream i've ever heard.

"you could've told me you two were seeing one another" daphne says as she approaches out table at breakfast the next morning. i look around wildly, confused by her question. i'm the only one seated.
"are you talking to me?" i look back up at her in confusion
"of course!" she scoffs, sitting down next to me, "you and draco?" she raises her eyebrows like it's obvious
"i haven't a clue what-" i start, but she interrupts me by pulling out an issue of witch weekly and slamming it down on the table in front of me, pointing to the front page article. i scan it quickly, seeing the headline "The Newest Triwizard Romance" and a picture of draco and i hugging outside of the tent yesterday, "no no no no" i mutter, flipping through the pages frantically to read the rest of the story
"okay well i get you wanted it kept a secret, but this is quite the overreacti-"
"it's not a secret!" i cut daphne off, "because we aren't together!" i take deep breaths, skimming the article and trying to calm down, "sure we almost kissed but-"
"you almost kissed?" daphne practically shouts, i look at her widely and she sighs, "sorry" she says, much softer now, "why didn't you tell me"
"i wasn't sure if it meant anything, you know" i shrug, "i'm sure draco's kissed plenty of girls. he may have just been caught up in the moment"
"now c'mon" daphne tilts her head, "you know that isn't true. if he almost kissed you, his closest friend, it meant something"
i look up at her, taking a deep breath, "this" i hold up the paper, "isn't going to help anything" daphne nods solemnly, both not wanting draco to arrive at breakfast this morning, as we can already hear the whispers circulating as more and more people get their issues delivered.

there's today's chapter! i ended up doing a bit of a detailed summary because i got requests for both, and then just made this chapter a bit longer than others so it had more things than just the task. hope everyone's enjoying :) i will try and post again tonight!
