"aaaAHHHHHH-"
I yelled as I threw the hair straightener across the room.
I grumbled and flopped down onto my bed, annoyed.
"Woah woah-"
Leon appeared in the door way, already dressed for the day,
"Everything alright in here?"
"Stupid- freaking- hair-"
He laughed at me and came and sat beside me,
"Careful, your hulk is starting to show."
I couldnt help but crack a smile at that.
"Oh shut up-"
I sat up and he gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before getting up again,
"Dont forget- we have to meet Hunnigan soon."
"I know I know-"
"Yeah, but I know you'll take another 2 hours to get ready."
I laugh throwing a pillow at him,
"Alright alright! I'll hurry!"
"Good-"
He threw the pillow back,
"Wouldnt want the restaurant to give up our seats."
He winked at me and left the room, heading down stairs.
Leon and I had moved in a while back, just after the whole thing with Simmons.
I quickly fixed my hair, giving up trying to straighten it up, and pulled on a nice suit.
The pants and jacket were a nice dark green, my shoes were black and it matched my button up perfectly.
I hurried down the stairs after grabbing my purse and met Leon at the door.
He had put his suit jacket on and his nice navy tie.
I straightened it for him.
"Well dont you look dashing."
I smiled, and he grinned, taking my hand and kissing my knuckles.
"And you look amazing as ever."
I laughed and quickly took his hand in mine,
"Come on handsome, we gotta go."
We arrived at the restaurant and took the elevator to the very top.
We had to weave through tables and people before we saw, Helena, Jake, Sherry, Hunnigan and Claire with her brother Chris.
We all gave each other hugs and shook hands in greeting before taking our seats.
Conversation flowed and it was just nice to sit down and be normal.
"So, I hear you and Leon took the year off?"
Chris asked from across the table as he took a sip of his expensive whiskey.
"Hm? Oh yeah, after everything I think we deserved a break."
I said, taking Leon's hand again under the table.
Chris smiled,
"Well- I'm glad you did. You two seem happy. The perfect couple."
"Speaking of couple-"
Claire said, turning her gaze to Jake and Sherry.
Sherry flushed,
"Let's... table that discussion for another time."
Everyone laughed and before we new it the starters had arrived.
Claire and I practically inhaled all the garlic bread.
"Someones hungry-"
Helena laughed at us,
"Sorry, it's been a long day."
Claire smiled,
"Yeah, I'm surprised you havent eaten at all today. Shes been training like crazy."
Chris says,
Hunnigan raises her eyebrows,
"Oh? Is that for the mission you were assigned a while ago? I heard about it in the break room."
The table got awfully quiet when we started discussing work.
People sharing few parts and small details about it all.
We all understood, stuff was confidential and some of it was hard to talk about.
"Well-"
I said as our main course arrived.
"I think everyone here should have a break."
I say, digging into my meal.
Chris shrugs, smiling.
"Well, if we all took breaks now, there wouldnt be anyone around to save the world."
"Amen to that-"
Hunnigan said, raising her glass in agreement.
Sherry raised her glass to,
"To being kick ass heros."
"Heros is a strong word-"
Jake joked, but raised his glass to.
"To our tech team."
Helena said, raising her glass to and pointing at Hunnigan.
Claire raised her glass aswell,
"To the best team mates anyone could ask for."
Chris nodded and pulled his sister into a side hug while raising his glass with his other hand.
Leon raised his glass to.
"To the best family anyone could ask for."
Everyone awed and claire faked a gag at the cheesy line.
I smiled and finally raised my glass to,
"To us. Everyone sitting at this table, everyone behind the scenes and on the front lines. The world wouldnt be safe without us."
I said, and everyone cheered.
Leon and I got home late that night.
We got into bed as soon as we got out of the shower.
This was the worst part of my day though.
No sleep, ever.
I lay on Leon's chest, listening to his heart beat.
It must have been around 2am in the morning when I heard-
"Cant sleep?"
He asked, he sounded wide awake.
"No... you?"
He shook his head.
"...well... guess we'll both be exhausted tomorrow."
He smiled and kissed the top of my head.
"You know I love you (Y/N)"
"Yeah... I love you to you big softie."
And that was that.
Our life went on, another year went by and nothing happened.
It was another year of being... normal.
No evil bio weapons, no short villains, no kidnappings, no nothing.
Until-
"Hey- (Y/N) are you expecting anyone today?"
Leon asked, peeking his head into my office.
I put down the document I was reading.
"What? I... no I dont think so? Why?"
Leon looked concerned,
"Cause someones outside."
Everyone who knows us always let's us know if their coming over or not.
Call it paranoia but after all these years everything and anything could be a trap.
I quickly picked up an old pistol I had in my draw and walked out infront of leon,
I flung open the door, ready to shoot when-
"WOAH WOAH WOAH-"
"...chris?"
I said, lowering the gun.
"What-..."
I trailed off, he was dressed head to toe in armour and had a gun strapped to his back.
"...not much time to explain-"
He huffed, leon and I traded confused looks.
"But I need your help... think you're up for it?"
He asked,
Again leon and I traded looks and I couldnt help the wicked grin that danced across my face.
"Oh hell yeah- back to saving the world?"
Leon gave me a kiss,
"Back to being heros."
