Title: Once Upon a Dream
Key: (h/c)= hair color, (e/c)= eye color
One day, I'm going to live in there," Mona pointed up to the castle as her new friend, Raphael, turned his head thoughtfully.
"Is that so?" he mused, giving a small smile to her from behind the bandana that covered his mouth. Readjusting the black cloak that somehow always stayed in place and never showed his body, he looked down at Mona; the only person he'd ever loved.
But, he'd never admit it. Even if they were both outcasts; mutants. She didn't know that, though. With Raphael hidden under a mask and cloak, she didn't know what he was. She didn't know he was just like her.
++++++++++
"Raphael, I want to give you something," Mona muttered bashfully as she looked up at his looming figure.
"Oh, yes? What is it?" he looked off the cliff they were standing on and looked back at Mona, the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen. Gently, she reached up with her four-fingered hand and tugged down his bandana. Now able to see his mouth, she leaned up and whispered into his ear as Raphael closed his eyes in pure bliss.
"Happy birthday," then, leaning up on her toes, she put her mouth to his.
++++++++++
"Mona, what?" Raphael looked helplessly at the girl he loved, even though now, she wore a different shell.
"Do you like it? I found a drink on the ground and it made me pass out, but when I woke up I was like this!" Human. Mona, the once beautiful gecko, was now a human. Beautiful and curvy all the same, but Raphael could see it in her eyes.
She was ugly on the inside.
"I told you to never drink anything you found on the ground. What if something happened to you and you died?" Raphael snapped, secretly afraid for Mona.
"What's the worst thing that could happen? Ending up alone here, hiding myself because no one could ever love me the way I am?" Raphael was no stupid, he knew she was talking about him. He didn't respond, though. It wasn't his place to tell her anything anymore. Mona, satisfied with the damage, turned and stumbled off through the woods towards the castle.
Her childhood dream was finally coming true.
++++++++++
"I, too, have a gift to bestow upon the child," Raph grinned widely, striding slowly over to the cradle, ignoring Mona and the king's cries of despair.
"No, stay away!" Leah, one of the three fairies, shrieked, holding onto the cradle with both hands.
"Yes, stay away from the pri-" Donna backed-up, trying to block Raphael from coming any closer. Myka just stared, holding one of the baby's hands. With an annoyed flick of his entirely-bandaged wrist, the fairies were flying across the room, falling into an empty chest as the lid slammed shut after them.
Finishing his walk to the cradle, Raphael peered down at the baby with disgust. Wide-open (e/c) eyes and a little tuft of (h/c) hair looked up at him. Gurgling happily, the baby lifted up both hands and smiled at Raphael.
"Listen well, all of you. The princess will indeed grow in grace and beauty-" he was cut off by the king, who looked at Raphael in desperation for mercy upon his only child.
"That's a lovely gift," Raphael, with his eyes flashing as green as ever, flicked a finger to his mouth to signify a "shh" as the king's mouth was suddenly glued shut.
"But before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep-like death!" suddenly, he glanced over at a movement and saw Mona getting off her throne and rushing to him. Before he could react, she grabbing his hand, even as magic still flowed from it.
"Please, don't hurt my daughter. I'm begging you, don't touch her," she pleaded, falling to her knees as Raphael smirked down at her. He hummed with false thought and let the magic cease, but not stop, like Mona thought.
"You know, I like you on your knees; begging to save your daughter because that's the only thing you can do. So, do it again and I'll reconsider," gulping, Mona looked around at her subjects and finally back at her husband. He was staring at her with wide eyes, trying to open his mouth.
"Okay. Just, please. Please, don't touch my daughter. I'm begging you," Raphael, with a soft smile on his face, lifted Mona to her feet and her face lifted, thinking she had saved her child.
"Okay, I won't touch her," suddenly, his face broke out into a sadistic cheshire-cat grin as Mona's smile melted off her face.
"No-" just as she realized her mistake, she flew back into her throne, unable to move, "no, please!"
Ignoring everything around him, Raphael looked down at the princess again, face softening as he gazed at her. He apologized to her in his head, secretly sorry she was the piece placed between him and Mona's game.
"The princess can be saved," he raised his arms as Mona's cries turned to relief, "but only by true love's kiss." he looked back to see Mona looking at him with a terrified look in her eyes. She knew as well as he did...
True love doesn't exist.

Raphael grunted as he picked up the four-year old (y/n), gently tilting his head back as she tried to grab his bandana. Hearing a shout for her, he quickly put her down and ushered her away with gentle, quiet words.
As soon as she was out of earshot, he hissed in pain, looking at his bright-red flesh. Watching as the red and pain faded, he thought back to the promise he made, causing him to feel the same pain he did every time he touched the princess.
"Okay, I won't touch her..."
++++++++++
"Hello, I'm (y/n)," the eight year-old greeted, smiling at a boy with tousled black hair and tan skin.
"Jacob," the boy answered, shaking (y/n)'s hand. Raphael watched from the trees a few feet away, already thinking of ways to curse Jacob, should he hurt the princess in any way.
++++++++++
"You don't need to be afraid!" (Y/n) called out gently, having seen Raphael from afar. She knew he'd been watching her for a while. She didn't know it'd been practically since birth and he now loved her like his child, but she knew of him. Every now and then, there'd be a glance or a quick look and a flash of black or green moving out of her vision.
"I'm not afraid," Raphael drawled, finally answering her. Pleased with a response, she took a step closer to where she thought the voice was coming from and tried again.
"Then why don't you come out?" she wondered, brushing hair out of her face. Finally, she was met with a bright green eye that seemed to move farther and farther away every time she moved.
"Because then you will be." Raphael smiled, green eyes flashing to get (y/n)'s attention again. He was secretly having fun, teasing her like this.
"No," she shook her head, smiling brightly, "just come out, please! I'll be your best friend." she tried to bribe, looking around.
"Well, that does sound tempting..." just as (y/n) thought he had disappeared, she spotted movement from the corner of her eye.
Raphael took a deep breath and stepped out of the trees, smiling at (y/n).
"Hello, Beastie."
++++++++++
"I rebuke the curse, let it be no more!" Raphael let out a blast of magic, green filling the small room as it surrounded the sleeping fifteen year-old. "Let it be no more!" he screamed again, using his magic to its full power to do anything with the curse.
Finally, he reached his limit and dropped his arms, his magic slowly creeping back into (y/n)'s still-unconscious body. He dropped to his knees beside her bed as he gently played with her hair, hoping she would forgive him when the time came.
"But only by true love's kiss. This curse will last till the end of time! No power on earth can change it."
Not even his own power could take back what he had done. Not even Raph himself could save (y/n) from the fate he had given her.
++++++++++
"You lied to me!" (Y/n) screamed, crying uncontrollably as she fell to the ground after tripping on a tree root.
"Beastie?" Raphael tried, reaching for (y/n). With a huff, she pulled away and stood up, straightening herself out.
"You put a spell on me? You're the reason I've been stuck in these woods for fifteen years?" Raphael was immediately angered by her and the three "uncles" that were watching her. He wanted to apologize, explain what happened; (y/n) would understand. Instead, in a fit of anger he was unable to control, he laughed cruelly.
"Yes, because I wanted your mother to feel the pain I did all those years ago she betrayed me. And, now I get to tell her all about how I watched you take your first steps and how I heard you say your first words and even the first time you told me you loved me. I win, (y/n). I win," (Y/n) was in tears, sobbing in anger.
"You're a monster!" she screamed before turning and fleeing the woods, leaving a gaping hole in Raphael's chest.
++++++++++
"Faster, Casey!" Raphael shouts, steadying Jacob on the horse's back in front of him. He could feel it in his chest, the tightening of it as the curse got closer and closer to completion. As if the sky knew the occasion, it began turning a sickly green and pink, as if celebrating the union of princess and curse that was soon to be.
Pushing the horse to go even faster, Raphael prayed as the time got closer and the castle seemed to get farther and farther away.
Finally, like a bullet through his heart, he felt it. The curse was complete.
The squeezing around his heart stopped as did everything else. Leaning forward over Jacob's body, he let out a cry of pain as he mourned (y/n). Casey, sensing the change in the air, reared up and neighed as a sign of respect for the princess he would never see again.
++++++++++
"Do you want to kiss her?" Myka asked Jacob, all three fairies watching as he stood over (y/n) with tears in his eyes.
"Well, n-" he cut off by the fairies pushing him forward with a demand of "do it!" and "now!" Shrugging, he leaned forward and locked lips with Aurora, pulling back after a few seconds. Leah screamed out in frustration after (y/n) didn't wake up and motioned for his brothers to grab Jacob.
"You didn't do it properly!" he shrieked, him and his brothers shoving Jacob towards the door.
"No, wait! That's my best friend!" Jacob retaliated, turning back into the room and freezing. The fairies, seeing him stop, also turned and froze in fear.
Raphael stood over (y/n), head down and hood up, even though he held the red bandana that once covered his mouth in his hand. He didn't acknowledge the fairies or Jacob, only the child he regretted cursing ever since the day he had done it.
Leaning over the princess, he let a tear fall onto her hand as he took it, looking down at her sleeping face. Thinking back, he smiled fondly at the memories and then let it fall as he realized his memories were the only thing he had left of her.
She would only laugh in his head, smile in his memories, and love him in his black heart. She was gone.
"Beastie," he started, feeling his heart break all over again, "I will not ask your forgiveness because what I have done is unforgivable. I was so lost in hatred and revenge. Sweet (y/n), you stole what was left of my heart and now I have lost you forever. Not a day will pass that I don't miss your smile," then, as a final goodbye to the only person he'd only ever truly loved, he leaned down and kissed (y/n)'s forehead.
The burning hurt more than ever now that she was gone, but he welcomed it. Burning whenever he touched her was acceptable for him. It was a small price to pay for the curse she was forced to pay off for all of eternity.
Turning to leave a last time, as he could not bear to see the princess in the state he had put her in, he stopped when he felt a hand gently grab his wrist. It didn't burn. With wide eyes, he slowly turned and saw (y/n) holding onto his arm as she yawned.
"Hello, godfather," she greeted, smiling gently at person in front of her. Raphael, smiling as largely as he could, let the bandana fall from his grip as he took her hand in both of his.
"Hello, beastie," they smiled and embraced as the fairies and Jacob rushed over to them, everything finally okay.
++++++++++
"Wait, were you going to say no when the fairies asked you to kiss (y/n)?" Raphael wondered, giving Jacob a scrutinizing look. Jacob shrunk back and shrugged, looking at (y/n) helplessly.
"Yes, but in any other circumstance where I'm straight, I would've loved to kiss her," Raphael raised his eyebrows, looking as Jacob with confusion written all over his face.
"Wait, what?" (Y/n) laughed, pulling Raphael closer to her side.
"I'm gay," Jacob finally said, looking at (y/n) with laughter in his eyes. Raphael sucked his lips in, looking down.
"Oh. Well I didn't know that."
"You didn't know? Literally everybody- even Casey- knows," Casey, with a laugh of approval, winked at Jacob from where he was standing behind Raphael. Jacob smirked back and everyone laughed.
"Well, I'm sorry my magic doesn't have a gaydar," Raphael muttered, smiling at the sound of everyone's laughter around him.
For now, everything was going to be okay. And it would stay that way, if Raphael has anything to say about it.

Did you understand who the characters where? I had fun writing out the names and things I thought Maleficent felt during the movie so yeah! I also enjoyed the little twist about Raph not being able to touch her so let me know what you thought of it!
