summertime ball
"you haven't been pestering our guest now have you Theo?" Mr Laurence said as we all sat for breakfast. "no Sir, he's been
just the welcoming gentleman i needed
to help me settle," i said smiling.
"please, call me James," he said before taking a drink from his cup.
i felt Teddy kick my foot from under the
table. i looked at him in confusion however he mouthed the words,
'thank you'.
"am i really the welcoming gentleman you needed?" Teddy said mocking me and
my english accent. i shoved his
shoulder and laughed.
"god save me," i said while still laughing as he held his shoulder and fake pouted.
"i can feel a great friendship coming on
between the two of us Miss Blair," he said bowing, i smiled and place a kiss onto his hand. "i could not agree with you more Mr Theodore," i added. he nodded then spun and started walking away.
he exited the front door and continued to walk, i quickly ran to the door and watched him as he walked along the path. "where are you going Teddy?" i shouted
in confusion, my pink gown moving
slightly due to the breeze. he looked
back at me with a smirk.
"can cope without me already? gosh Blair i've only known you for a day," he chucked cockily. i blushed slightly
and hid my face behind the large
wooden door. "i'm kidding," he smiled.
he started at my flustered face for a while without speaking. he shook his
head out of his daze and shouted,
"the Marches, im going to see the Marches."
"Teddy wait!" i shouted pulling my shawl over my shoulders and rushing towards him. "you will be the death of me Theodore Laurence," i said holding my out of breath chest. he giggled and rolled his eyes. "you love it really," he said cockily as we walked together to the March's home. "Blair you're back," Jo smiled and pulled me away from Teddy.
"i am indeed," i laughed as she took me
to the main room of the house.
"lovely to see you again Blair," Marmee smiled. i smiled back at her as she
dusted the mantle.
"hello Blair," Beth said quietly, "hello Beth," i smiled. Amy gave me a quick hug then ran to the kitchen for some reason.
"girls, tonight it's the summer time party at Sallie Moffat's house," Marmee smiled.
Sallie Moffat, that name, i knew it.
"Laurie you can see Julia," Meg smiled as she walked into the room. i saw him blush slightly. "Blair you have to come, i don't
know if i can cope watching Teddy stumble over his words and blush at everything she says," Jo said with a smile, Teddy just rolled his eyes.
"can i?" i said looking at Teddy,
"why not," he smiled back at me.
"thank the lord," Jo said with a bright smile.
Teddy and i returned home soon after, i'd spent the last hour getting ready for the gathering. i didn't want to make a
bad impression at my first social event.
i brushed my hair in the mirror and admired my baby blue gown, it was one of my favourites, my Papa made it for me, his designs were world renowned.
i heard a small knock on my door,
"come in," i said, the door opened slightly and there came in Teddy and his perfect little curls. "you look handsome," i smiled looking at his reflection in the mirror.
"i'm sure Julia will love it," i added turning to actually face him. he was a lot closer to me then i thought, i took a step back however he just looked at me and didn't speak. "you look beautiful Blair," he said quietly, i blushed slightly,
"why thank you," i said looking to his green eyes. "look at me," i said drawing his attention to my face.
the boy towered over me, i looked up at his now sweetly smiling face. i straightened out his collar and tie,
"perfect," i smiled before making my exit from the room.
"the carriage is out there," Mr Laurence said holding the door open for me.
"thank you Sir," i said with a slight bow.
"you really do look like a princess tonight Blair," he said with a smile, i was glad that i was going to be staying here for a while.
"i agree," Teddy said to his grandfather,
"have fun tonight, don't be back too late," the old man smile patting Teddy on the back. "can't promise anything," i joked before the horsemen helped me into the carriage.
"you ready for this?" Teddy said as we arrived at the large home. i took a breath and nodded. "i am indeed," i smiled, the carriage door opened and i smiled at the extremely good looking member of staff who opened it. i'd definitely be looking for him later. "come on lover boy let's go get your girl," i smiled hooking Teddy's arm with my own. he looked like he
didn't want to be here, it confused me.
we were seeing the girl he liked after all.
"you look beautiful," Meg said as she walked towards Teddy and i. "so do you Meg," i said with a smile.
"that's her," Jo said coming up behind me, i looked at her in confusion,
"Julia," she said. i nodded as i watched the beautiful girl in the beautiful emerald dress beautifully dance with her beautiful smile. i mean, you get the picture.
i will not lie, i was jealous, she seemed, well she was, just perfect.
no wonder Teddy liked her.
"come on Teddy, you have some love to be giving," i said and took him to where the girl was dancing.
"Theodore," she said smiling and pulled him into her arms. "who is this?" she said sweetly, "Blair," i said holding out my hand however she pulled me into an embrace. "you must be the girl who is staying at Theodore's house, i didn't expect you to be this beautiful, i might just be a little jealous," she smiled. i blushed. she was kind too.
"she's perfect," i whispered to Teddy who looked extremely uncomfortable.
"i'll leave you two now, see you soon Teddy," i smiled and walked back go where the Marches where beforehand however they were not there when i returned. i sat down and twiddled my thumbs, i couldn't help but feel alone and quite hopeless, i knew no one.
i felt a presence next to me, i soon realised it was the man who opened my carriage door. "hello Miss, i couldn't help but realise how you are alone, maybe i could join you?" he said, i smiled.
"i would love that," i said, he stood and held out his hand. i gladly took it and we began to dance sillily to the music.
"what's your name?" the boy shouted over the music, "Blair," i shouted back.
"i'm Lorenzo, but you can call me Enzo if you'd like," he shouted back, we both started laughing at the people who stared around us. "come with me," he smiled pulling me to a room behind a red curtain.
"so, Blair what are you doing here? i've never seen you before, plus i can't help but wonder about that adorable accent," he smiled. i blushed at his comment.
"i am staying at the home of Theodore Laurence, i'm unsure if you know of him.
i'll be here for about a year, then i'll return to England. he brought me along tonight however he's dancing with a girl he likes. what about you Enzo, why are you here?" i smiled, i expected him to say he was a staff member however that's not what i heard. "this is actually my house," he laughed, i felt such embarrassment. "my father makes me greet all of the guests, that's where i first set eyes on you tonight," he chuckled. "Sallie is my sister in law," he added. that could only mean one thing, "my cousin is dating Theodore," he added again. they're dating? i thought there was nothing official.
"so Blair, now that you're living with Laurie i think we will be seeing a lot of each other," he smiled as we walked back to the the carriage, i nodded.
Enzo and i had bonded a lot tonight.
he was a great guy.
"there you are Blair, i've been looking for you all over," Teddy said rushing to me and holding both sides of my arms.
"sorry Laurie, i stole her away for the night, i apologise buddy," Enzo smiled.
Teddy gave him a dirty look before climbing up into the carriage.
"it was nice to meet you Blair," Enzo said before kissing my hand. "you too," i smiled before getting into the carriage.
i sat across from Teddy whom had a sour expression.
"what's wrong Teddy?" i smiled, he ignored me. "hello?" i said again.
he ignored me for a second time.
"for goodness sake where is this rudeness coming from?" i asked. he looked at me with wide eyes. "for all i knew you could have been dead Blair," he said angrily.
"but i'm not, i don't understand why you're acting as if i have don't something wrong," i said in a frustrated tone. he rolled his eyes. this brought me to the edge, "don't act like you're perfect Theodore, you lied to me," i scoffed. he now was the one who looked worried.
"you and Julia are official, why lie about something so trivial? it's not like
i was hitting on you," i laughed.
"whatever," he replied. our ride was silent.
once the carriage stopped he stormed to the house and up to his room, as did i but to my own. maybe Teddy and i wouldn't be such great friends after all.
i sat on my bed in my night gown in frustration. why was he so bloody angry? all i did was make a new friend? it wasn't like he wasn't already occupied.
the next think i knew i heard a knock, but this time it was on the balcony door.
i saw him give me a sad little wave.
i got up and opened the door.
"i'm sorry mon bourdon," (my bumble bee in french) . "i forgive you mon nounours," (my teddy bear in french).
"friends?" he smiled, i nodded and leaned my head on his chest.
"why didn't you tell me the truth about you and Julia?" i said quietly, he took a breath, "i didn't know, i'm just confused at the minute, confused about what i really want," he sighed. i didn't read into his words, i didn't want to, i just wanted to stay in this moment, this moment of pure comfort.
