When the clock struck 12AM, I was crying my eyes out. At 3 months pregnant, you'd think it was a hormonal thing. No, it was literally because my baby girl is two today. I needed some consoling because I was a wreck, but I pulled myself together.
While Violet slept in, Ariel, D'Angelo, Kyle and I were putting the last minute touches on her birthday party. It's Unicorn Fairy Princess themed, per request of Violet Skye. She was going to have a pink and purple bounce castle and the inflatable water slide to match it—that was set up in the backyard—cake, cupcakes and the pool. We had a total of 50 guest who were coming, after sending out the invitations last month. Everyone RSVP'd on time.
So here I was, trying to hang up Violet's birthday banner. Knowing how risky it was to be standing on this step ladder in the first place.
"Babe, let me do that." I hear.
"I got it." I exclaim.
"It's not up for debate, get down."
I step down off the ladder and turn to face Kyle.
"I told you I had it." I frown.
"I'm sure you did." He said. "And if you had fell, I would've had a heart attack."
He kisses my forehead when I pout. I then make my way into the kitchen to get the cake and cupcakes ready. What you see in the picture is not even close to how many cupcakes I was making. And the cake is three layers instead of one. All of it was funfetti, with buttercream frosting.
Ariel came in and helped frost. It would speed up the process.
"So, guess what?" She says, frosting a cupcake.
"What?" I ask.
"Guess." She giggles.
"You're pregnant?" I say.
She doesn't say anything. I stop frosting and look at her.
"You are?" I ask, eyes widened in shock.
She nods with her lips pursed.
"Holy- did you tell DLo?" I ask.
"Not yet." She shakes her head.
"When did you find out?" I ask.
"Last night." She said.
"Oh my goodness, congrats." I hug her.
She laughs. "Thanks Ari."
"Look at that, we're both pregnant at the same exact time." I grin.
"Who would've thought?" She giggles.
"I mean really." I reply.
I hug her again out of pure excitement.
"How we lookin?" Kyle asks, walking into the kitchen.
"Great." I say. "The top layer is in the oven right now, as well as the fourth batch of cupcakes."
I have two cupcake pans, which both make 10 and makes everything easier.
"So you should have 30 cupcakes frosted right now?" He asked, walking over to our side of the counter.
"Would you like to do a head count sheriff?" I tease.
"Maybe I do." He slaps my butt, kissing my forehead.
"Why are you in here?" I ask, pouring cake batter into the cupcake cups that sat in the pan.
"I wanted to check on the progress." He says.
"And what else?" I say. There's always something else.
"Putting up the bounce house and water slide." He mumbled.
"You can't be serious Kuz. It's simple." Ariel exclaims, looking up from her frosting. "The directions are in the box."
"I wasn't talking to you, Pillsbury Dough Boy." He replies.
She points the frosting bag at him. "I will cut you."
He chuckles, looking back at me. "So?"
"So what? She's right." I say, licking some batter off my fingers. "The directions are in the box."
He sucks his teeth. "Seriously?"
"Um, you made it known that you want me doing limited work. Am I right or am I right?" I ask.
"You're right." He mumbled.
"Exactly. So go get the boxes, drag DLo by his hair, and set it up." I say. "It's literally that simple."
He groans like a child.
"Or you can just wait until Bron and AD get here, but I'm sure they'll tell you the same exact thing." I shrug. "Unless you want your daughter to wake up and find that there's no bouncy castle and water slide."
"Chill, I got it." He said.
"But I thought it was too complicated." I smirk.
He gives me a blank face. "Keep playing with me Ari."
"Oops." I mock.
On his way out the kitchen, he slaps my ass hard. My next move was to hit him with the spoon, but he ducked and ran out the kitchen, chuckling.
His ass is mine later.

Once we set up the cake and treat table, Ariel and I set the balloons up. We had some behind the table, then we set up a few in the backyard with the chairs. I put a pink and purple balloon on the backyard door so the guest knew to come through there. I left it unlocked for that purpose.
Her gift table was in the house, next to the table with the cake and treats. And that was right by the sliding door that led to the backyard.
The dogs were out in the backyard chasing one another, while Kyle and DLo were putting the last touches on the bounce house and water slide. He cleaned out the pool then warmed it up a bit.
When everything was done, guest started to show up. I made my way upstairs to get myself and Violet ready. Kyle got himself dressed right after he cleaned the pool, so now he's downstairs greeting everyone.
I got myself ready first, before going into Violet's room and getting her ready.
"Hey mamas." I rub her back. "It's time to get up."
She groans, before turning to look at me.
"Hi baby." I smile.
"Mama." She said.
I nod. She sits up and looks around, a little confused. She then crawls out of the bed and into my arms. I laugh, rubbing her back.
"Come on baby girl, today's your big day." I stand up, walking into the bathroom with her.
I get the tub set up as she rubs her eyes tiredly. Soon she's in the lukewarm water, playing with her rubber ducks as I rinse her with water. Since she decided that she wants to swim first, I wasn't going to put lotion or anything on her. She's literally about to get in chlorine infested water, the last thing she needs is to fog it up with her lotion.
After a good 10 minutes, I'm taking her out and walking her into her room again. I dry her off and dress her up in her Moana themed swimsuit. It's a cute little two piece. I leave her hair out in its curls, then help her with her little white Crocs. I walk her into the bathroom again, where she brushes her teeth while I get her towel and floats ready.
Once done, we're both making our way downstairs. As soon as we reach the sliding doors that lead to the backyard, everyone is screaming Happy Birthday to her. She gets startled, then comes to hide behind me. I laugh as she tries to get me to pick her up.
"Violet, these are your guest. They came for the party." I say, nodding toward the people.
She doesn't care though, she continues trying to crawl up my body. I chuckle. By then, everyone was back to enjoying themselves. Some eating, others playing in the pool, etc.
Kyle walks over to us at the door. "Come here Vi."
She shakes her head, still holding her arms up to me. I grin.
"You don't wanna go to daddy?" I ask.
"Mama." She whines, holding her arms up still. Then she attempts to crawl me again, whimpering because she couldn't.
"What's wrong?" Kyle asked.
"You saw for yourself. She got startled." I say.
He nods, reaching out for her. "Hey? Come on."
She pulls her arm away from him. "No."
"No? Girl if you don't get over here." He picks her up anyway. Before she could make an attempt to fight him, he started to tickle her. She giggles her little head off, trying to move his hand away from her stomach.
"No?" Kyle teases, kissing all over her face as she continues to laugh.
I smile as I watch the two, arms folded over my chest. When they settled down, he asked her if she wanted to go swim. She nodded and he kissed her temple, turning to head toward the backyard. I follow behind them, glad that it worked out in some way.
Otherwise, we would still be standing in the doorway.
