Mabel

I pressed my phone to my ear, supporting it with my shoulder as I got myself busy with organising the files in Cade's Study. Apparently, I fixed Sundays for sorting out files and since he was busy in the kitchen replying to emails and at the same time, having a video meeting with Uriel about their new lunch. Things had been way better than before, I'd assured Melissa few days ago that Cade and I were now cool, although that didn't stop her from worrying, Cade and I spent half of yesterday at the Chesterfield mansion with her, when she saw everything was fine, she had given me a sated smile.

"Are you still there?" Neha's voice reached my ear through the speaker.

"Yes, you were saying something about your Mom and a second marriage?"

"Yes yes. I'll have to fly back to India. She's been calling me non stop. She really loves this Ajay guy. They have been best friends since highschool days, and ever since my Dad filed a divorce, my Mom has been seeing Ajay, behind my back... Can you believe it?!"

I chuckled. "Maybe they're meant to be. You can't tell."

"Mm, yes... Just like you and Cade."

A smile reached my lips at her words. "Yeah."

"Oh, Mabel! I can't wait to find my own man! Honestly no one's even looking my way."

"How about Justin. You both-"

"Don't you even dare! Justin is dead to me."

"That's why you still have pictures of him on your phone and laptop... Don't forget the frames hanging on your wall."

Even without being there, I knew she was rolling her eyes at this moment. "They beautify my house... Besides they were shots taken from my first camera ever... I'm not just going to throw them away."

I chuckled. She and Justin were partners in her working place, where they both worked as host to the Good Morning Miami show.

I remember once when I asked her why she stayed in that small apartment complex when she could actually afford a penthouse. But she told me she was used to the apartment since it was small and she wouldn't get easily spooked out by any noise.

Her words, "I hate big houses, I will get scared to death if a pin drops."

"Anything you say Neha."

"Where's Cade anyway?" She asked.

"Working." I said.

"Typical Cade. A hard man to reach. Remember what I had to go through to score an interview with him?" She chuckled.

"Yeah... It was war." I joined in the laughter, my eyes scanning around the table for a stapler.

"Are you sure you can't accompany me to India? It's just Rishikesh."

I sighed. "You know I've always wanted to visit your home town and so many other places in India. But I can't leave Miami. I have work... And don't forget I'm paying a huge debt. I can't miss a day."

"I thought you both sorted things out."

"Yes we did, but that doesn't evade the fact that I stole from him and I'll pay it all until it's complete."

"Cade agrees to this?"

"Of course not, but he gave up when I refused to stop working. If I don't pay back Neha, I won't be able to live with myself. Besides, I've got my pride."

"Oh well, it would have been fun to have you come along."

I took a step back, holding the file in one grip as I opened the first drawer, but the stapler wasn't there.

"Maybe some other time?"

"Yeah... Also before I forget..."

Closing the first drawer, I pulled open the second one.

My eyes widened at what I saw lying there. It was sliver, but definitely not the stapler.

Immediately, I dropped the file on my grip, holding my phone steady against my ear. "Um Neha, I'm going to have to call you back." I said, my eyes unable to tear itself away from the object.

"Oh, okay, sure."

"Yeah, talk to you soon." I said ending the call before she could finish her bye.

What in the world-

I picked up the object, the cold feeling making my grip tighten around it.

Quickly, I made my way out of the study and straight to the kitchen where he was busy typing away on his laptop.

He didn't even see me walk in.

When I dropped it on the table, his eyes lifted from his laptop to the object, then to me.

"Explain, right now." I said with my hands on my hips.

His brows etched down in a cute frown that told me he was clearly confused. "Uh... It's a gun... You know that thing used for protection? In case there's someone out there who might want to harm us... You know... A gun."

I shot him a frown of my own. "I'm not blind Cade, I know it's a gun."

"Lovely, why did you need my explanation then?" He asked with a brow raised in question.

"Because Cade, I would like to know why you have a gun."

He went quiet, almost as if the reason was hanging in the air.

"Cade."

"What were you doing in my study in the first place?" He asked, looking uneasy.

"I was sorting out some files."

"Which I remember asking you not to-"

"Cade, don't even try to divert my attention right now."

He sighed, but I could see the mischievous look dancing in his eyes.

He shot closed the lid of his laptop, turned to my direction and pulled me in between his legs by my waist. "Why do you always have to be so serious, hm?" He smiled down at me his index finger coming to tap my nose playfully.

"Cade... I found a gun in your drawer. It's an issue to be taken seriously."

"But you have a gun." He accused.

"Yes, that's me. It's different."

"Oh, enlighten me sweetheart, how is it any different? Why can you have a gun and I can't?"

"Because Cade, it's not candy. It's a gun and you ar-"

"Are a CEO who shouldn't have a gun cause I'm better at handling files and ordering people around." He completed.

"Cade-"

"I know what you're going to say Mabel, the gun world isn't for guys like me, blah blah blah."

"Do you even know how to use it?" I asked with a teasing smile.

"Yes? Take off the safety and shoot the bad guy?"

I laughed, shaking my head at his careless response. "No offence, but you're so stupid."

"Offence taken sweetheart."

I grinned, standing on my toes and leaning closer to him. "...and cute... You're my stupid, stupid cute boy." I pressed my lips against his before he could correct me.

He brushed my hair from my face with his knuckles, cupping my chin as he kissed me back.

Our lips danced together in a smooth comfortable rhythm, almost as if they were masters of each other. Nothing else would show up as perfect in this moment.

Breaking the kiss, I bit my lower lip, gazing up at him. "The gun is an amazing gesture, Cade. You have no idea how much I love that you want to protect me. But- I seriously don't want you hurting yourself in the process."

"Oh come on, I've seen a lot of movies, I know how to position a gun."

"Oh, my stupid, stupid boy... Movies and real life... Not the same thing Baby."

He frowned. "I'm not stupid! How hard can shooting a gun be?"

"Don't even let Melissa hear you utter the word gun."

He rolled his eyes. "I'll be 25 in a few months, I can own a gun if I want to."

I sighed. "Have you ever shot something?"

"No, but it should be easy."

"Hm. We'll see about that."

"What do you mean?"

I allowed the sly grin spread across my lips. "Come on Phineas, I know what we're going to do today."
