"The Serpent's Teeth"
(A Tom Riddle love story)
10th January 1945
Friday
"You all will be brewing a potion in pairs today," Slughorn beams at us and lets his gaze wander over the rows of students.
"Ah, Sasha. You will be working together with Jacklyn." He says, certainly thinking of his party.
Sasha nods smiling and changes places with Bailee.
"Bailee, you can stay where you are, you and Ms. Wood will certainly do a good job. Mr. Malfoy and Dolohov will form a team," he says with a look at the other students.
Oh please, let me work with Tom!
"Casey you and Mr. Robins can also form a group. Mr. Riddle you and Hazel get along perfectly." He chuckles happily.
Smiling slightly I swap places with Malfoy, after James and Casey moved up two seats.
"What are we brewing?" I ask Tom and lean over the sheet.
"Polyjuice Potion."
"We can do that."
"Did you doubt it?" He asks rhetorically, knowing that I am not much worse than him in this subject.
"Get the missing ingredients," Tom tells me focused.
I quickly walk over to Slughorns desk and look for the missing materials.
With them in hand, and a benevolent smile of Professor Slughorn I return to Tom, who relieves me of the ingredients.
"Get some water. Then we can begin, "he tells me bored and I follow his new command with an annoyed look.
Is this how he thinks that our relationship will be?
He orders me around, and I just do whatever he says?
That's not going to happen!
"Do you want to start?" Tom asks suddenly, and seems to be surprised that he proposed it.
"Sure,thanks" I smile back.
Maybe he's still capable of learning.
Or he noticed that something's not right.
Or he isn't so incapable of relationships as I thought.
I cut the first ingredient into fine slices, and put it in the lukewarm water.
It is important that it doesn't boil before the unicorn horn is added.
"Can you amplify the fire?"
"Sure, Tom," I sigh interrupting my work and heat the potion until it boils.
We're finished for today, after all, it takes a month until the potion is ready for use.
"At what time are you coming over tonight?"
"After dinner, Inalready packed my bag," I smile at him happily, he smiles slightly before he turns around and leaves the classroom followed by his friends.
The Slytherins ignored me throughout the week.
They didn't even throw dirty looks to me.
"Are you sleeping in Tom's quarters today?" Tracey asks me, as we walk towards the Gryffindor Tower.
"Yes, I only ned to get my bag," I smile brightly.
Whenever I think of Tom, a grin creeps on to my face paired with a warm feeling all over my body.
Sometimes I'm just glad that my Occlumency shields are strong even in the passive state and don't betray me in my sleep.
If my secret is revealed, my friends can pick up the individual parts of my body in the castle garden.
With this rather unpleasant thought I grab my bag, which is magically reduced so that it looks like a bag full of books and am on my way to Tom.
This is the first time that we'll be spending time together since the holidays.
"Hey," I beam at Tom, enter his room and throw my bag on his bed and without waiting for an answer.
"Can I have a cookie?" I ask him whilst making my way to the kitchen, completely ignoring the amused twitching of his mouth.
"You do realise that you've just had dinner half an hour ago, right?" He asks me as I open the Cookie jar.
"I know," I smile, take a biscuit and take a bite.
Still chewing I walk over Tom, swallow and kiss him tenderly on the cheek.
Standing on tiptoes I whisper in his ear.
"But I want one anyway."
"You can have two," he says seriously, lifts me up and carries me towards his chair.
Once there he sits down and pulls me sideways on his lap.
Comfortable.
"Tom?"
"Hm?"
"Do you know why the Slytherins are ignoring me?"
"Uh-huh."
"And why?" I sigh now annoyed.
I turn my head and look him in the face.
"I've ordered them to."
"You did?"
"Yes, and the reason as to why I did it doesn't concern you."
I swallow hard at his imperious tone and turn my head away.
From the corner of my eye, I watch him as he opens my braid and plays with my hair.
He has ordered them.
What?
To stop talking to me?
Not to look at me?
To ignore my existence?
At least they avoid all three points.
Why did he do it?
Is he jealous?
Or is this his twisted way of protecting me?
I'm not angry with him because of that.
The Slytherins are as unappealing to me as in my time.
"Let's go to sleep? We have to study tomorrow."
"Are you serious?" Slightly shocked, I look up at him.
He frowns.
"What?"
"You want to learn with me tomorrow."
"Hazel, the exams are in a few months."
"Exactly. Months. "
He grins.
"In to the bathroom with you."
"Only if you come with," I smile, slightlyannoyed by the idea of learning.
He pushes me of his lap, so I that I have to stand up and then pulls me into the bathroom.
Studying.
Saturday.
I haven't even done all my homework yet.
"Bud don't wake me up tomorrow, okay?" I ask him carefully, as I lay with my head on his chest staring into the darkness.
"It depends on the time."
I sigh annoyed.
And I always thought I was an early riser.
He doesn't seem to need any sleep.
"Don't you sleep?"
"No, not anymore."
"Not anymore?"
"Since my last summer."
"Oh."
"Good night, Hazel."
"Sleep well, Tom."
He doesn't sleep since last summer.
Since he created his first Horcrux.
Does that mean that he no longer sleeps in my time?
Or just a few hours?
One?
Why does he sleep less since he split his soul?
His body is still human.
Doesn't he only destroy his soul systematically with the murders?
He also destroys his physical humanity?
That would explain his snake like appearance in the future.
The separation of his soul also leaves physical damage.
Simply because a person's soul belongs to its body.
Does that mean that he's actually killing himself on his quest for immortality?
