I'm not going to have a lot of time to write tonight, so that means that I'm going to have to get this next chapter out to you guys tomorrow. Sorry, but I'm going to do all in my power to make it long. And I'm hoping, not boring. Anyway, I'm going to start writing now... no school Monday, so I might be able to post a lot this weekend, but then again I have exams and crap to study for so, I don't know. Just please, bear with me guys.

Jace's P.O.V.

Once again, I was in my office trying to occupy my time with paper work. I was really already done with it, but I was checking it over. Dani had been on my mind ever since I left her. Her expression was humorous when I drove away. No doubt, she was completely pissed. A smile crept upon my face just thinking a it.

Then I thought about her might leaving. If she left, I don't know what I'd do. She just came into my life and no one was going to take her out. That couldn't happen. Her parents just died, and I lost my dad. We weren't going to lose each other.

As alpha of my pack, and her mate for that matter, I just wouldn't allow it.

Again, I needed to get her off my mind. Should I hang out with Henry and Savannah? No. I wasn't really in the mood to watch them suck each others faces and try to take their clothes off. I made that mistake last month, and trust me, it was not pleasant. At all.

I guess I should go see how my mom was doing. With my dad gone and all, she was still hurting a lot. What was worse was the fact that she tried hiding it. There was always this sad look in her eyes. It must be awful to lose you're mate. I couldn't imagine what would happen if i lost Dani...

A growl of frustration broke through my mouth. I've got to stop thinking about her! Just then, my phone buzzed in my pocket. Thank god! A distraction!

Oh. It was Dani. Wait! Why is she calling me? I'm supposed to see her tonight. Something must be wrong. If she's captured again, I am going to rip those people limb from limb. The phone answered again. Answer the phone, idiot, I thought to myself. Right...

'Dani?' I asked. 'What happened? What's wrong?'

My who body relaxed once I heard her giggle on the other end of the phone. 'Seriously, Jace,' she said. 'If you've just been pacing and worrying about me this whole time, we might just need to get you on some medication.'

Haha. Nice one. 'I haven't been worrying I said. And I'm not pacing.'

Her expression must've held a smile. 'Sure you weren't.'

'I wasn't!' I protested. 'What did you need?' I asked changing the subject.

She was silent for a moment. 'Okay, this might be awkward and I'm so sorry for it, but my brother wanted to meet you. Is there any chance you can come by, like within the next hour or so.'

'Hour?' I asked. I didn't want to be away from her that long.

I heard her sigh. 'How long?' she asked.

'Seven minutes,' I told her smiling to myself.

'Is that a record?'

'No, but I can set one.'

I heard her chuckle. 'Fine,' she told me. 'Be here. Seven minutes... Just things are hard here with my brothers and all -'

'Don't worry about it,' I said. 'I know what it's like.'

'Thank you,' she said quietly.

'I'll see you soon,' I said and hung up.

After that, I left the house and made it to the woods. Quickly, I changed and was at her house in six minutes. Once again, I changed and made my way to her front door.

Dani's P.O.V.

Even before Jace knocked on the door, I knew it was him. When I opened it, I smiled at him. His hair was slightly tousled. That could happen if someone traveled in wolf form. It didn't matter I liked it. "Six thirty," I said. "Beat you're record. Were you anxious to see me?"

He smiled and nodded. When he reached out to me, I ducked and pulled away. Jace scowled  at me. "Hey! That's not fair," he exclaimed.

"Actually, it's completely fair," I said matter-of-factly. "Remember how you left me this morning?"

Jace shook his head. "That's different. I'm alpha. I can do what I want."

I rolled my eyes. Is he really going there? "And I'm your mate. So, I have a right to do what I want."

Jace growled. And I silenced him. "My brothers don't know," I said. Only lying 2/3 of it. Immediately, he shut up. "Come on," I said as I took his hand and led him to the living room. Once he sat on the couch, I went upstairs to find Ryan. I knocked on his door.

The door opened and I saw Ryan standing there. "Um, J-Jace's here. I mean... if you st-still want t-to meet him," I stuttered. Damn. Why do I have to get all nervous? This is embarrassing...

Ryan laughed at me. "Yeah. God Dani, you're like a tomato! Jeez. You really like this guy don't you?"

My blush became more pronounced. "Let's just get this over with," I grumbled.

As we made our way down stairs, I heard voices. Shit! Cody and Ben! They were like bombarding him with questions and that.

"So, you don't go to school?" Ben asked.

"And you're eighteen?" Cody questioned.

"Cody! Ben!" I hissed. Jace looked at me and chuckled.

"I don't mind," he said and stood up. He walked over to me and Ryan. "Hey, I'm Jace Broderick," he said and held out his hand. Ryan shook it.

"I'm Danielle's older brother, Ryan," he said smirking at me. He knew I hated being called by my full name. It was just so... girlie. I kicked him and he cursed under his breath. Then again, I was a werewolf, so I hear.

"Language," I chastised him. His eyes widened and he looked at me, shocked. I gave him a knowing look and he remembered.

"Oh," he said. "Sorry."

My little brothers were looking at us with confused faces. They had no idea what was going on. I couldn't help but feel sorry for them. Their parents had died and soon they'd have to leave the only home they'd ever known. I knew they'd be so crushed and wouldn't want to leave, but it was what was best for them. We'd all miss each other, no doubt. The pain in their eyes would be unbearable.

It's seems weird and cruel, but in order for me to become closer with my brothers, my parents had to die. I just wish my life had been different. If only I could have one more chance to make it right...

But I knew I couldn't. For now, I had to be strong for them. "Cody? Ben?" I asked them. They both looked at me. "Can you guys leave us alone to talk? Please?" I knew they wanted to protest, but they nodded and headed upstairs.

"Let's sit down," Jace offered. We both nodded and sat. Jace and I sat on the couch, and I curled up next to him. Ryan sat down on the chair across from us.

"So," Ryan said. "You're the alpha of the pack here," he said.

Jace looked at me. "You told him?" he asked horrified.

"It was the only way I could convince him to let me say," I said. "Please don't be mad. You can trust him. He won't tell a soul. I promise. Please, Jace. Don't be mad." I kissed his cheek. "Please." I gave him a small peck on the lips.

Ryan cleared his throat and held up his index finger. "Yeah, um... I'm still in the room."

I forced myself to pull away from my mate. "Right, well. Yeah, he's the alpha and my mate." Jace nodded in agreement and wrapped an arm around my shoulder in a protective manner.

"I can see that," Ryan observed. "Well, I want to know if I can trust that my little sister will be safe with all of you guys."

Jace wanted to growl with the thought of me not being safe. I put a hand on his knee to relax him. "If anyone touches her, they're dead," Jace said in a hard voice.

That must've been one of those voices that make humans know that they are in the presence of someone stronger than themselves. Ryan didn't argue, but just simply nodded.

"If it's okay with you, I'd like to move in this next weekend," I said looking at Jace.

He nodded and turned to my brother. "Is that okay with you?" he asked. Okay, this was going to get real old real fast. If Jace asked Ryan for permission on something that has to do with me all the time, he wouldn't live to be nineteen.

When Ryan saw my annoyed expression, he chuckled. "Yeah it's fine. I think Nana and Grandpa will take Ben and Cody when they leave after the funeral. I'm going to sell the house and get an apartment soon. I'll have a lawyer look at the will, too."

"You know that I can help you with these things, Ry," I said. "I can help you know."

Jace nodded. "I could, too if you want. I could have my lawyer look at the will for you. He did that when I lost my father."

He lost his father? Jace never told me that. I just stared at him. He was definitely going to explain that tonight. Ryan just nodded. "I appreciate it. And I'm sorry about your dad."

"Thank you," Jace said not meeting my eyes. I couldn't help but feel hurt that he didn't tell me. I looked away.

"Did you set the funeral and wake?" I asked Ryan.

"Wake is tomorrow and the funerals Tuesday," he said.

"Okay," I said and shifted slightly.

Jace got up and looked at the both of us. "I should get going. I was going to visit my mother today."

My brother stood and shook his hand. "It was nice meeting you, Jace," he said.

"Yeah, you too," Jace said as he started to walk towards the door.

"I'll walk you out," I said quickly as I got up. His face said that he wanted to protest, but I glared at him. He sighed and let me walk him to the door. Once we were outside, I shut the front door behind us and turned to him. "Jace, why didn't you tell me about your dad?"

He just shrugged. "Dani, I don't want to talk about it right now," he said. He wouldn't meet my eyes. God, that really pissed me off.

"Come on, Jace. I told you everything," I said.

"Dani, I don't want to talk about it!"

"Is this how it's going to be?" I asked. "The minute I open myself up to you, you close yourself off? Why can't you talk to me, Jace? We're mates. We should be able to tell each other everything! Why can't you tell me about your dad?"

"Because it's my fault he's dead!" Jace shouted.

What? No. No. That couldn't be true. It just couldn't be. Jace wasn't responsible for his dad's death. He wasn't. He couldn't. I tried to reach out to him, but her pulled back. "Jace," I said.

"Just leave me alone," he said and walked off to the forest.

All I did was stand there and watch as he disappeared into the forest. He'd never acted like that with me before. He'd never shouted at me. I mean sure, he had been mad, but it was only because he was worried about me. Even then, he didn't raise his voice.

I rushed up to my room and buried my face in my pillow. But I didn't cry. No. I was done crying. No longer would I cry over Jace, or my parents, or my screwed up life. I had to be strong for where my life was headed.
