luke finished reading michael's message, eyes filling up with tears at the pathetic yet broken response from his best friend.
he switched his phone off, sliding it into his pocket, before slightly sitting up.
at the sudden change of position, ashton stirred awake, looking up to his younger boyfriend in a mix of worry and sleepiness.
"you alright? wha's the matter?" ashton slurred, voice thick with sleep.
luke smiled despite himself, running his fingers through the curls that fell in ashton's eyes. ashton leaned into luke's hand slightly.
"i think.. maybe we should go to michael's."
ashton then sat up from his place on luke's chest, panic rising when michael's name was mentioned, the gloss of tears in luke's eyes not adding relief to his worry.
"is he alright?"
luke nodded to ashton's phone on the far side of the bed, beginning to slip a shirt and hoodie on as he watched sadness well up in his smaller boyfriend's eyes.
"poor mikey.."
luke nodded, "yeah. come on?"
ashton accepted the hand luke offered to him, standing up from their bed. he put on appropriate clothing fit for the weather outside and the two left their shared apartment.

michael sniffled as he finally turned his phone off, carelessly tossing it onto the carpet of his living room. he chuckled, was he so pathetic that luke and ashton both saw his message and couldn't even pretend to disagree with his statement?
suddenly there was a soft knock at his front door, catching the attention of himself and his two dogs.
he trudged to the door sadly as moose and south followed quickly behind him, turning the light on in order to see.
michael unlocked the door, turning the knob and swinging the door open to find his two best friends wearing sympathetic smiles.
the faux blonde quickly reached up to wipe his eyes, in attempt to hide the pain he didn't want his friends to see.
"um.. why is lashton at my door at one in the morning? are we having a surprise threesome?"
ashton was the first to step in the apartment, squeezing the taller man in a hug.
"cut the shit michael, you're sad and we're sad that you're sad. let us love you."
luke came in behind ashton, wrapping the two shorter men with his long arms.
"we love you mikey, and so does cal. he really does. i promise. he'll come around."
michael nodded sadly at luke, laughing brokenly at ashton who gave his cheek a sloppy kiss from where he was practically sandwiched between the two.
"you say that, and i wanna believe you. i really do," michael's eyes filled up with tears the more he spoke, "i don't deserve him."
his wall finally broke, and tears began rolling down his cheeks. both ashton and luke's hands flew up to wipe his cheeks, doing their best to comfort their broken hearted friend.
"you deserve everything michael. you deserve the world."
the three continued their hug until it got uncomfortable standing in the middle of the apartment doorway, eventually shuffling into the living room and onto the couch.
michael laid his head on luke's chest and ashton sat behind him, rubbing his back.
not many words were said for a while, but they weren't needed. the silent comfort was enough for michael, the love that luke and ashton was smothering him in left calum but a blur in the back of his mind. for the time being.
"thank you guys."
michael finally broke the silence. his voice cracked from his crying, but he was beyond the point of caring, and his friends didn't pay any mind to it anyway.
"of course, buddy. anytime."
the three remained cuddled on the couch until morning, when the blinding sun woke michael up. it was as if the soft and vulnerable side of him went away through the remainder of the night, because he woke his two best friends with not too kind words of encouragement.
"get the fuck out of my apartment, before i start charging rent."
